  1. There's a first. We walked away from a gig without playing a note as the pub thought we had too many amps (we are a 5 piece) and our amps looked "too loud". We hadn't even plugged in or fully set up. When they asked us to lose a band member or play after 10pm when their restaurant was closed, we packed our gear and left. Lord Raglan in Wokingham, for the record. My advice: never accept a gig there

To give s bit more context, the band mate they suggested dropping (which we would never do) had just recovered from COVID and driven c.100 miles from Hastings to make the gig

Quote from publican - before we had even fully unloaded - "you will be so loud you will be playing to noone"

Soundman thought lead guitarist's Marshall valve amp looked especially loud. Our guitarist said "thats what the Master Volume knob is for" ... but it fell on deaf ears (no pun intended)

Ended up playing from 8pm to 10.25pm with just a 15 minute break. Had to play with thumb at one point as right hand cramped up and then switched to pick, but all good!

  13. OMG. Dave Wakeling of The Beat has just started following my ska band on Twitter.

  14. Looking forward to playing Fiddler's Elbow, Camden on Friday. Onstage 8pm in case anyone fancies coming along. Expect rocking blues with tons of guitar solos and barely adequate bass playing 🤣

  15. 3 gigs for us in 'that London' in the next month. First since the week before March 2020 lockdown. Wooo!

  24. TOP TIP:

If you're going to jump off the front of the stage to dance with the audience during your last song, make sure you don't misjudge the height of the stage and end up flat on your àrse. It's not a good look and is quite embarrassing. Errm, so I'm told.

  25. Greater love hath no man for a woman ... I have just sat through the first two episodes of the Sex in the City reboot. "And just like that" with Mrs C. This is not bass related but I felt the need to share my pain

Update (because I know you are all desperately interested):  I was obliged to spend a chunk of my Friday evening watching episode 3. Thoroughly enjoyable .... in that it was a fantastic hour spent surfing the web on my mobile phone.
