1.
You speak for me also. I can think of little worse than making music (something I really have a passion for) into a tiresome job.
Very noble Nige but then you do quite like your job. If you absolutely f*cking hated your job, faced with the choice of carrying on doing that job and alternatively closing the Glastonbury Festival on the main stage it might be a different choice, I would beg to suggest. Hell, I'd probably play bass for One Direction given the choice
2. Botttom line: I would willingly swap my day job to play for Mumford & Sons.
3. Its four-bolt ... but it has a micro-tilt adjustment
4. I find them very repetitive (Mrs C has both albums and the second in particular, Babel, blurs into one frenetic, uptempo rehash of the first). Nevertheless, bitching aside, they have hit a particular note with the public and even got invited to play on stage with Springsteen last month. They are doing something right and I think they would probably give a collective middle finger salute to BassChat, while kicking back in their multi-million pound mansions! There's a LOT worse out there (anyone for "Walks like Rihanna" by The Wanted, for example?)
5.
This sounds like Nick Cave to me .
Spooky that
6.
I've just caught some of Nick Cave . Now he is unequivocally dire . I would rather attach lead weights to my scrotum than endure much more of his pretentious maudeline and morose drivel . Who the f*** enjoys this rubbish ? They must be deaf or stupid or both . It's like watching one of The Munsters doing karaoke . Complete and utter bollocks .
The man is a genius, lyrically and musically. Witness: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dx9P6qB3R8E
7. If its £10 for the lot, I'll take 'em
8. Good man! Cheers Lozz
9. Shoot me down but they sound like a pub band covering the Stones
10. Ha ha! I do know you Chris. Definitely drop a line to Gareth. He really liked the bass but not quite enough to displace the Veillette (which he had made for him) in his affections. One point, it has a pretty slim J type neck.
11. Chris I thought you declared this bass fugly!!!!! In answer to your question, its not the original Lace Sensor but appears to be a DiMarzio P pickup and sounds like a good thumping P should. I recommend you drop a PM to Gareth (walbassist) who had it on trial and played it extensively before deciding he preferred his Veillette - he will give you an honest appraisal
12. Wicked, jack. I have one coming this week
13. Mike Lulls are under 8 pounds but cost nearer 2000 pounds! http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Mike_Lull_V4.html
14.
Or the clear spot of floor in a teenagers bedroom...?
Not quite so snappy a name for the band posters though
15. .. and these have arrived!
16. Its on iplayer now - what fun! http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p01c2hrr/Glastonbury_2013_Chic_feat._Nile_Rodgers_Glastonbury_2013/
17. Contact Alan Cringean of ACG Guitars - his preamps apparently can sound very Wal-like http://www.acguitars.co.uk/shop/
18. Keith helped me out with a swap of DB pickups (as mine didn't fit my bass), thanks again!
19. Cheers Loz! Hope all is well with you and M
20. yep, well I'm not in a tearing hurry to sell any more as my 63P sold last week ... and this is my best looking bass IMHO so if it doesn't sell its not a biggie for me
21. Its what i did when I had the Eko B3 gypsy style acoustic bass (oval soundhole meant no pickup would fit across). I had a problem with feedback at volume though which is why I moved it on. I fear the beast you are looking at might be similar unless you went for some kind of magnetic pickup which would of course make it sound more like a 'normal' bass
22. When I had an acoustic bass, these came highly recommended (and not made any more): Fishman rare earth acoustic bass pickups http://basschat.co.uk/topic/210996-fishmann-rare-earth-acoustic-bass-guitar-pickup/page__p__2123388#entry2123388
23. Maybe one of the K&K floating pickups? http://www.jp-guitars.co.uk/sales/pickups_and_amplification/kandk_acoustic_guitar_pickups_archtop.htm
24.
Clarkys first post in particular is belittling people for talking about bass stuff on a bass forum which seems a bit daft & counterproductive to me.
My post was not meant to belittle - I take part in the very same threads I was referring to (I thought in a firmly tongue-in-cheek manner). I was merely wishing aloud that a faction of the energy that goes into those threads be directed to the recording forum. Anyway I've said my piece.
25.
I've just fitted a Full Circle and used one of Rogers custom clips. It was a doddle to fit and is really solid. Anyone looking for an improved tailpiece jack socket mount should check these out. Many thanks Roger
Spookily, I have one of Roger's clips anchoring the jack socket on my Full Circle too! Very cool little device and less fiddly than the Lando clamp (albeit thats pretty good too! I have one on my other bass)
