1.
When I asked them about monitors they said 'we dont care, we know our songs' Went on and played brilliantly. Loved them for that I really did!
Its so refreshing when you get artists who are like that, knowing your material and stage levels. I've also had that acoustic duo scenario as well LOL
 2.
God my teeth are grinding! Worst example I ever had working FOH was a kid who turned up to play an acoustic set in a little pub I was regulaly working. The promoter booked the most awful lineups for the venue but I was getting paid so I did it. This kid had a Stagg electro acoustic bowlback thing. Unplugged didnt sound bad at all but very quiet. I plugged him in and got 20 minutes of 'it doesn't sound right' 'make it sound more like an acoustic' Which I did but still not good enough for him. I kept trying and in the end he sort of wandered off?! So he quietens down then when he comes on to actually play he stops mid song and begins saying again it doesn't sound right he is a professional blah blah blah (what professional stops in the middle of a song or does not organise this properly in sound check?) He said again 'it doesn't sound right' SO I asked him well what do you want more hi mid or low? less hi mid low, less verb more verb WHAT DO YOU WANT! to which he replied 'I dont know the techncal terms' I couldn't believe it what musician even a beginer does not understand hi mid or low???!?!?
Ha ha Classic, I've had loads of "I cant hear myself i the monitors" you go and talk through the mic and its BLASTING through the monitors and they go back and whisper. One female vocalist was so quiet I pfl'd her to my headphones and i could hear the un mic'd bass louder through HER mic than her vocal. I suppose its just a lack of experience, it only really irritates me when that is combined with arrogance and un professional behaviour.
 3. From a front of house point of view there is nothing worse than a band turning up expecting all of their previously undisclosed requirements catered for "we must have 13 separate monitor mixes and 41 DI's" Tell me in advance and i can sort it and have you heard of sub mixing you lazy git. or "have you got any power mate" ER no I run the PA and have enough sockets to run my gear you muppet, YOUR amp is YOUR responsibility! Deep breaths and relax...................
 4. I have played the covers scene for about 16 years and the thing that sticks in my mind is The audience wants entertaining NOT educating! A couple of singers/ guitarists i have worked with like to play music they like, usually slow or obscure, people go out for a night and want to be happy not sent to sleep, play a few high energy songs and then try a few slow or obscure ones and you will clearly see the effect. To be honest its probably the reason for the success or failure of many a northern pub band and tbh the reason i finally left my last gigging band. Who is the band out of interest? Cheers Dave
 5. Hi BY I would check the forum, there is always a few Rays for sale, mostly 3 eqs. To be honest there is little to be wary of on a musicman bass, the build quality is absolutely faultless, the finishes are really well applied and durable, I prefer a lacquer on the neck but if you buy one with an oil finish it would only cost you about 60-80 o have a luthier apply a satin clear coat. The only problem i have heard people complaining about is a quiet G string, I own 6 and this is not a problem on any of mine and i presume if you raise the pickup at the bottom it would sort it? Colour doesn't really alter tone but does affect resale, fingerboards options are mainly rosewood and maple, prefer the look of maple and the sound of rosewood, maple exaggerates the already clear top end. Last things to consider is the pickup configuration, I love a standard 4 string single humbucker, its THE stingray sound and I dont need to vary it other than tweaks of the EQ. Good luck Dave
 6. Bought Andy's DI box, arrived well packaged and prompt. Cheers mate Dave
 7.
Ive got an active Sub 4. Is the circuit in that what your looking for?
Have you got any pics of it? Cheers Dave
 8.
I think that is Space Bass which was made by Larry Pless. I think Bootsy had it modified at one point to have five pickups.
that sounds terrible and i dont understand why there is a man in a nappy ??? Unless Bootsy rig extends down to the brown note
 9.
however... the first bassline i ever learnt was warhead by the uk subs
Ahhhh "Paul Slack on lead bass" Great bassline, First song that made me want to play bass was SLF Suspect Device, still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
 10. Don't think, Just DO! If the wife sees it just say " What, this old thing.....................?" I cant recommend them enough. Good luck Dave

 13. Although Brian is a newbie, I have known and worked with him for years and can tell you he is a great bloke and has only ever bought seriously high quality instruments. Buy in confidence
 14.
I just wish I understood the whole post.
Just re worded some of the posts but to further aid clarity, I have an east musicman pre, I want a REAL musicman pre, I would prefer a straight swap. But would entertain buying someone else's real Musicman circuit.

 20. This is an East Musicman 2 Band active circuit. It is modelled on the original Stingray circuit and sounds almost identical, very biting treble and huge bass. It seems to, however lack the aggression and distortion of the original, which is why I am hoping to swap this for an original 2 Band Musicman Circuit.
