Playing the pub and small club circuit with the occassional function and few of the venues have a house PA (about 4 out of the 20 regular venues and none for the functions) so I couldn't do without my rig. We have a decent enough PA system (couple of Mackie SRM450's, and a couple of Warfedale Titan 10A's for monitoring) but I reckon these will start to lose definition and clarity if I started to whack my bass through it. I could add a bass bin to the PA but then that would put me back to square 1 with regard to carting around equipment.

A P Bass will always be good, but I would also look out for a nce second hand Stingray - these are selling for as low as £600 in excellent nick on this forum -

I've taken a leaf out of my father's book - if you can afford to replace it don't get insurance (just look after it). As such only bothered to insure my house and full contents (should a fire wipe it out) and the car. Other than that I take my chances, but make sure I look after/keep an eye on my gear.
