1. Hi I have 2 Korean DJ4's, not the ones now built in Indonesia. Although i've yet to play one of the new ones, i have heard suggestions that the build isn't the same as before. I have spoken to Headline/PRS who used to distribute the basses and that seemed to back up what i'd heard. I was lucky enough to get a second hand Korean Black DJ4 (Rosewood) on Ebay for a real good price recently. In 24 years of paying and all the Affordable Jazz re-issues i've tried, nothing has come close to the Skyline DJ4's i own. Every bassist i know who have played either of mine are now on the look out for one. A friend is about to try anew DJ5 so i look forward to the verdict.
2.
It really does depend on what you're after I'm afraid. I do have both. Generally speaking the Markbass pedal has a broader range of sounds than the EHX (though by no means comprehensive) and subjectively has a better sound quality. However while the EHX doesn't have a broad sound palette, what it does do, it does extremely well. It's basically an octaver, square wave with a filter section. Tracking on both is good but the EHX copes with short repeated notes much better. The Markbass has a bigger wow factor out of the box but I find the EHX more useable in context. The MB needs to be hooked up to your computer to access it's sound shaping controls - I'm no synth expert but not impressed at all with the degree of control on offer here. The EHX is more hands-on. Just reach down and work the sliders until you home in on the desired tone (within it's limitations of course). No memory presets but then it is easy to see what you're doing and replicate settings from notes you make.
Great cheers. I seemed to be veering towards the Markbass as i'd be using it live and don't fancy changing settings too much on the floor. The EHX does sound great in the videos i've seen though so i guess i've got to try them both Thanks
3. Am about to spend on a Bass Synth and have narrowed it down to 2. The Electro Harmonix Microsynth or the Markbass Supersynth. Has anyone tried both or own one of them? Any info would be useful! L
4. I thought it would have been made of wood. It was a dreadful plank of a bass that i could fit my hand between the fretboard and strings! A pink Marlin Sidewinder. Wounder!! And it sounded like poop!
5. Evening Due to the unknown, i decided to see how much i'd gain from joining a forum about the one thing i've done for longer than anything else in my life. Playing the bass. I've just done 2 things i never thought i'd do: 1. Sell my 91 translucent red Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray. 2. Sell my Ampeg SVT8x10 cab and Classic 300 watt head. However, i've just replaced them with a black Lakland DJ4 Bass (to add to my growing Lakland collection) and the new TC Electronics BH500 head, BC210 and 212 cabs. Am in a couple of bands and am about to buy the Markbass Super Synth. Nice one!
