1. I have a set of D'daddario half wounds that have had maybe an hours use. Nice strings, and expensive too, but I didn't like them so much. They're a 6 string set, they're advertised in the sales section.
2. Maybe approach local brass tutors in your area, ask if they know of any good students looking for gigs.
3. Please see my trade list in the first posting, just to save your time and mine .
4.
"We do the songs exactly as the record like we said in the email with the set list, well we do them in different keys and tempos, and that song you know the one where we make a medley from 8 other songs we do that with a reggae feel".
Had that too !
5. I had the one where I'm given a set list 2 weeks before the gig, I turn up to find I've been given the wrong set list . They have 2 bands, a small one and a large one, with 2 different set lists. I knew about half the songs and had to busk the rest.
6. Are you sure you get to use your bass ? My audition we couldn't use an instrument, we were just given a root note as a reference and had to use our knowledge of intervals etc. Start with the rhythm and then go onto the melody, you usually get marks for both so if the pitch is wrong, you'll still get something for the correct rhythm. 7. Not personally, I think you just need to check the requirements of whatever software you're planning on using.
8. I've always thought they looked cool, never actually played one though. The necks always looked very slim to me, so I probably wouldn't like one anyway. Are they likely to produce a more modern variant sometime in the near future, and maybe add a string or 2 ?
9.
Not derogatory at all but then again i think of Macca as just being a songwriter of a few decent tunes.
Kind of like saying that Christopher Columbus did a bit of sailing in his time . And how many famous songs have you written ?
10. Leave or sack him Sounds like he's one of those that uses the rehearsal to learn he song, rather than to erm......rehearse it.
11. I'm 36 and currently in year 2 of my music degree course. I've been playing for about 20 years and pretty good technique and harmonic knowledge etc. My musical tastes are hugely diverse, everything from Miles Davis and John Coltrane to Puccini and Tchaikovsky. My rock and metal tastes include Dream theater, rush, Pink Floyd, Anekdoten, Seventh wonder, Exivious and Porcupine tree. I'm based in Birmingham but at uni in London. I'm also really into music production/composition and also play keyboards.
12. Where are you based ? Have you thought about advertising at your local music college ? I occasionally play in band that has an amazing horn section. The trombone and trumpet player met at Birmingham conservatoire, I met them through a guitar player friend.
13. Anything with the name Auralex is overpriced. Make you own for a fraction of the price using materials available from eBay or any number of other places. I bought some foam pads for my studio monitors from digital village for a lot less than the Auralex ones, and I've compared them to a genuine pair and there is no difference.
14. Hopefully meeting someone next week who wants to try this. In the meantime please, no trade offers for basses other than those of equal value to this. I don't honestly believe that I've overpriced this, on the contrary in fact, this is a good price for a top quality Fender bass. It takes only a very short time to check the value of an instrument, especially if it has previously been sold on here, and it's annoying when the trade offer has previously been sold for several hundred pounds less, or in some cases £500 less ! I'm a student and can't afford to give stuff away or lose money on instruments. My asking price is firm, and has not and will not be lowered.
15. I've had 2 like that start following me this week, the one's talking about marriage already, but I've told her it's early days yet
16. Probably a sign of the times I guess, things don't sell as fast as they used to. It's slightly annoying though, when you get a trade offer, only to discover with a bit of research that the bass you've been offered is worth nowhere near the value of the bass you're selling. I had a bass offered to me last week, it did look interesting. When I looked into though, the particular bass had been sold on here at least 5 times, the last time it sold it went abroad, and was a fretless, it's now back and has been re-fretted. The most it sold for before was £800, the bass I'm selling Is priced at £1250. Today I was offered a bass that has been sold on here previously, the last time for £700.
17.
I dont think it is a problem that you are not finding it natural to anchor on the pick up. Few have mentioned the potential hand/wrist problems that can go with this technique. Granted, lots of top players use it and get away without any problems but others suffer because of it. The trouble is that it can take years to find out that you have an injury problem. IMO it is better to err on the side of caution and keep the wrist straight. As for the Floating Thumb being "sloppy"......tell that to Todd Johnson !
I had the pleasure of spending a weekend studying with Todd a few years ago, he's an amazingly talented player. If you can master the floating thumb technique then it's very useful, especially for 5 and 6 string players.
18. I think the OP's title is a bit misleading, and is maybe leading people off track. Floating thumb, to me anyway is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnbUWWW1Abg where the thumb is being used as a mute. Then there's the traditional thing where the thumb is anchored either on the E string on on top of the pickup. Then there's what the OP means, where the thumb and hand move about. If you're only playing a 4 string, then you shouldn't really have a muting problem (I don't mean only in a derogative way). Use the left hand fingers that you're not fretting with to mute the other strings. If you're playing the E string then I don't really see how the other strings would be ringing. This is kind of why I personally think having a few lessons on basic technique is a good thing, especially when you first start to play.
19. http://www.scribd.com/mobile Lots of really good stuff here ! Don't limit yourself to bass clef either, practice treble clef too
20. Are they an American agency ? Probably never heard of the nhs
21. Is there an option to privilege your own medical insurance ? I'm guessing that whoever provides their insurance is also something to do with the recommended place for the medical.
