Anyone familiar with Spitfire Audio and Native Instruments ?
ambient replied to ambient's topic in General Discussion
Yep, I use Spitfire Audio. I will have a look in the morning (presuming you haven't sorted by then). What library did you get?
Brilliant, thanks . I think it may have been you mentioned on here about them, in response to me asking for sample library recommendations. I've got the Albion strings package that I bought about 2 years ago. I just bought the EDNA01 Earth library. The sounds on the website are amazing. -
I just bought a new sample library from Spitfire Audio. If anyone is unfamiliar with them, they create some amazing ample libraries. I already own their orchestral string library. They also offer great student discount . You have to use NI's Kontakt 5 player, to be able to play the samples back in Logic. To do that, you have to first of all register the purchase using the NI service centre. This is what I'm having a problem with. It already shows my registration of the orchestral sample library, but I can't see how to add a new product. It's almost certainly be being a bit dim today, I have an extremely bad cold at the moment . If anyone can help, I'd be really grateful.
You must all love Jamerson as I do! And if you don't! You aren't a bass player!
I admire his playing and talent, but liove.......no.

Personally I'm in favour of transcribing lines myself. Context is important, a line may look good written out, and played 'solo', but you'd need to hear it in the context that it was originally played in. There are many versions of Autumn leaves around, from slow ballad style by Miles, to more up-tempo versions by Coltrane, and many in-between.

I can totally understand why people don't get him. But as others have said, there was before Jaco, and after. He totally, and utterly changed people's conception of the bass guitar. I remember my one tutti telling me how blown away he was when he first heard him play. He and many others spent weeks shut in at home trying to work out what Jaco was doing. Hi groove, admittedly not something I'm into, was amazing, listen to come on come over, off his debut album for instance. It's his inventiveness and melodicism that I love though.

Made up of dozens, and dozens of short, effected vocal phrases. Composed to be played back through an 8.1 surround sound system. https://soundcloud.com/an-ending-ascend/818a-1
Summer Of 69, Livin On A Prayer, Rock n Roll Band, So You Wanna Be A Rock Star, Into The Great Wide Open would be such different songs if someone had written them today!
They may never even have been written, wouldn't that have been a loss..........he says sarcastically .

I think it's brilliant, kids getting involved in music. It should be encouraged, not made fun of.
People are too loud!
That's pretty much what I said in a thread that I started a month or so ago. And It totally baffles me when you go to rehearsal studios and bands are playing so ridiculously loud.

I too wondered what OM was. I figured it out after the first post. The couple I've been to seem to just be singer/songwriter type things, with singer/songwriters playing acoustic guitar singing about the usual.

An effect isn't really going to fill out the sound. My advice would be to listen to trios playing music that you like, and work out what they do when the guitar player is soloing. I'm guessing that you'll discover that there's a different bass part than during the rest of the song. it's down to arranging your parts together. It's also possibly just you having to get used to your part being isolated, since you've only recently switched to a 3 piece. Whatever you do, you don't want to detract from what the guitarist is doing, it's 'his' solo.

It's a very sad occasion, and something that I never expected to have to do. This is one bass that I always wanted to own, and never wanted to have to sell. However, I'm currently doing a MMus in composition at Goldsmith's in London. It's an amazing course, and is really helping me with my compositional work. You can't get student loans for postgrad courses, so I'm having to finance the course myself, which is a struggle. My only income is from some private teaching, and gigs. The bass is an amazing instrument, and was built by Modulus in 1999, making it 16 years old. I have owned it for the last 3 years. It is in amazing condition. When I bought it I though it was maybe 2 or 3 years old, I was truly shocked when I had it dated via the serial number. It is an alder body, with quilted maple facing. A 24 fret carbon fibre neck. Bartolini pickups, and a custom made John East preamp, the John made for me to accommodate the existing holes that were in the body from the previous pre. It has a 35" scale length, and 17mm string spacing at the bridge. The action is ridiculously low, lower than on any wooden necked bass that I have ever played. It is currently strung with Thomastik flat wound strings. It comes with a Modulus Hardcase. I can't afford to lower the price, this is a bargain. If it doesn't sell then I will be taking it to either Bass direct or one of the other specialist shops to sell for me. Collection is preferred, though I can also meet for train fare. The only trades would be for a 6 string bass of approximately £1000 in value, plus cash to me. Possibly a Yamaha TRB or JP model ? I have no interest in basses with less than 6 strings. Fretless bass welcome too, as long as they have 6 strings. This is a photo from when I bought it, I will post some new photos in the next couple of days. Here's a link to the original advert from the shop I bought it from http://www.bassdirec..._Quantum_6.html
Many shops will want 15% commission of the sale price - you might want to ask what they are going to do for that 15% other than add a pic/brief review on their website and look after it for you so that Tom, Dick and Harry can have a go without any commitment to buy...
You've also not got the fassle of having to ship it too I guess.

I may end up having to sell my Modulus to pay towards my MMus fees. I'm probably going to be listing it on here in the next couple of days. I haven't had much luck in the past though when selling 6 string basses on here. So I was thinking of maybe taking it to a shop, to sell on commission for me. Has anyone done this, what are the benefits ?

Recently I've been listening to Harold Budd. His piano playing is nothing short of exquisite. Just piano, his more ambient stuff is beautiful, but I prefer just his piano playing on it's own.
