Ah, I see now - Yes, yours is the black one, isn't it? The painted or stained models seem to get the gloss neck treatment, but the natural is horribly unfinished and rough to the touch. Rich.
indeed it is so maybe just the naturals that arent great? andy

here are some pics here's the bass just on the strap as you can see no dive ( really sorry bout the hands! ) here's a side pic, the bass does tilt forward slightly but only a little! and as you can see in this pic while playing your my right hand corrects the tilt, im not pushing on the body or holding it, just when my hand is resting there it brings the body of the bass into mine. andy oh and really sorry about the gut!
Is yours the natural one, Andy? If so, I'd imagine I played a bad one. It was awful.
nope its not so your probs right! my bad andy
With amps like this....I would always get it mic'd anyway....sounds much better. Most sound guys probably dont have good quality mics, so you can use a Tech 21 Sansamp BDDI if you need a nice warm valvey tone to the PA. As yet....Ive not had any issues. But, if I had the choice I'd always get the speakers mic'd.
indeed i have to agree that my pro 6/ 610hlf sounded really nice mic'd tbh im not really sure im bothered, just found that i can try out a gk 2001rb as well as the 2 big valve amps so we'll see how that goes! andy
This is all IMO, but Orange beat it hands down for the following reasons: Better customer service, based in UK, 3 years warranty with PMT, (think its 1 or 2 normally anyway). Orange looks cooler. Plug in and awesome tone instantly....no messing about. Brilliant classic Orange tone. Great for fat clean warm tube tone, or really really gritty dirty tube tone, and all in between. Lighter amp Better grit at lower volumes IMO, better grit overall, (purely amazing tube grind when you have the gain up to about 3/4). Still incredibly, incredibly loud. Very simple design, with no bells and whistles, short signal path = tone heaven. Orange are more boutique in my eyes....not so everyday. Let me know how you get on.
will do. does the no di become a pain? im guessing not just get a good di box? andy
I've got a pupil who has one of the sub £200 ones and it's a great bass for the money. Lovely gloss neck, grunty sound and great playability. More recently I played the pro in the natural and while it's a great sounding and highly spec'd bass for the money, I didn't like the rough-arse unfinished neck at all. I'd still go for the cheaper one. Lovely instruments.
my necks not rough or unfinished? andy
Hi, After moving the strap button to the neck does the bass now want to tilt forward? Example, the top starts leaning further out from your body than the bottom? Don't Gibson's already have the strap button on the back of the neck? Don't they also have neck dive? Been considering this bass somewhat, but I want neither forward tilt or neck dive. How about some more picks of you wearing the guitar with no hands holding it, side and front. If it's not too much bother? Cheers
kk ill try and get some. the neck dive is gone, and it tilts a little but not alot! i have my basses low so its really playable now! i would def get one if your thinking bout it! ill get on those pics later 2nite. andy
If you where nearby Id say come and have a test of mine. Seriously, A/B them if you can. Thats what led to me getting the Orange.
Indeed that would have been handy. Yeh I know they have a svt cl and I think they have a 200b so ill play them both if I can. What would you say are the differences between the orange and the peg? Andy

i play hard rock/metal and im selling my pro6 and moving on to something else. ive had an orange before the ad140b but it would get loud enough without breaking up a bunch, so to consider the 200b it needs to get loud! its gonna go through my 610. the only thing that really spins me out with orange is the lack of a di. the ampeg is one of the amps that ive wanted for ages! im just wandering what people think of the newer ones? andy

my dream rig is silly! either an orange ad200b or ampeg svt running into 2 810 ampeg cabs for clean, and then a mesa dual rec full stack for distortion! but thats like the stadium rig! for more normal less dreamy rig, i'd probs say orange ad200, ampeg svt or a trace v4/v6 running into a ampeg 810 andy
It strikes me as odd that people call it the 'ampeg sound' considering their cabs are fitted with eminence speakers?? I love eminence speakers and have no muddy experiences with my 810e! odd, very odd indeed?? andy
its only a slight hint that i find it puts on the sound, my markbass sounds different on the same setting going my ampeg 610 2 a markbass 410, i know dif cabs but there is a dif, probs a bit more of a smoother sound? andy
you should get rid of that cab too and get a matching GK.
we'll see i like the peg cab but i dnt want to be completely changing gear. im looking at getting a couple of 210's or maybe a 15 to give the rig some more power. andy -
Modulus Flea basses. Why so unpopular all of a sudden...?
0175westwood29 replied to Beedster's topic in Bass Guitars
Agreed, mine sold for £1250 in September last year and the specs weren't as good as this one. The silver and blue sparkles used to be really popular as well (there's a blue sparkle being offered at a rather optimistic price on ebay at present). I genuinely think it's the result of Flea's move away from Modulus, kinda sends a subliminal message saying 'there's something better come along' (the something better clearly isn't his new range but let's face it, he rarely played the Modulus in the studio and I'm pretty sure the same will go for the new line). Just another expensive artist model no longer played by the artist in question I guess
some of the drop will be, i know that i got my flea on the back of seeing flea play one. but also he did use them in the studio along with his vintage jazz bass. i hope he doesnt use his new flea bass in the studio or on tour! as i am inclined to agree that it sounds like ass! after playing one at a music show thru a good gk set up. andy -
Just sayin' I think £150 is a great price. You would easily top that on ebay I should think. It's because it's old that it has added value. The wonders of vintage pedals .
indeed i think i could but i really just want back what i paid which is 150. its a nice pedal as as you say it is a vintage pedal. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MORLEY-Power-fuzz-wa...=item4a9d838dc1 an ebay auction with a buy it now price of £185 and its in the states! so you would have to pay tax on it. andy

looking into maybe getting a new amp
0175westwood29 replied to 0175westwood29's topic in Amps and Cabs
I reckon a GK 1001 would be enough...definitely. If you want to stay small, and would like a more tubey amp with lots of options, I seriously would test the TC Elec RH450. Once I heard one I had to have one....its a really really nice amp. Don't let the 450 rating put you off...
im going to go to the shop this time with a much broader mind, i now know that the outputs aren't always true! im gonna really test drive the 1001rb properly! as the 2001 is basically 2 put together. ive been offered a higher price than on the net around £1299 for the 2001 and about £749 for the 1001 just encase i like it and think its enough, but tbh i like the idea of having two channels and the silly headroom! also looked into trying to find a second hand mesa boogie bb750, but there like unicorn poo! and all the mesa amps are to pricey new! im aware for the 1299 id get the 2001 for i could also grab a ad200 orange or a svt cl, but not sure i can deal with the silly weight of the all tube amps again! but i may have to try them out! anyone care to put anymore suggestions forward? andy
