1.
just caught wind of this - ampeg 610 hlf £499 new. awesome company to deal with as too - ordered my wireless and tuner from here. really helpful when i had a wee problem and phoned them - resolved in about 15 minutes, and it wasn't even their fault! http://www.absolutemusic.co.uk/shop/view_p...urce=newsletter
woh ! there been ah 100% increase in price!
 2.
+1million - dont even change the fuse and plug it back in... might be teaching to suck eggs here, but can't stress safety enough.
the leads gone! damn promoter chucked it during our set!
 3.
Even a high power amp shouldn't draw that much continuous current unless there is a fault or you are using a very low current power lead. A hi-fi amp of mine did a similar thing years ago which was related to transformer failure. Alex
im using the lead that came with the amp and it's been fine up till now. andy
 4.
+1million - dont even change the fuse and plug it back in... might be teaching to suck eggs here, but can't stress safety enough.
yeh i dnt plan to turn it on again till im at mansons tomoz, the kettle leads a bigger gauge than norm because of the current it needs, i suppose it may have been on the brink of breakin? but yeh it def of to the tech to sort! im thionking of picking up a baby amp to use as a backup now tho! Mmmm andy
 5. doing a sound check for our gig thursday night, and i smelt burning looked behind and the kettle lead of my pro-6 was smoking! turned it of straight away, and unplugged the lead from back of the amp, and it was melted! and stinking! what the hell would cause that! i know the pro 6 has a large current draw! but its never happened anywhere else! any ideas? im taking it to get looked at tomorrow as it is under guarantee but im concerned as we play alot of places this size and i'd rather not have my amp doing this half the time! is there any way to help the current draw stay down? andy
 6. thats a silly price! alot of prices vary tho as when i was looking for an amp the svt pro-4 was going from 1600 to 1200 all the time on the same site! but the pro-2 for 1199! or the svt! thats a silly price!
 7. been listening to alot of live metallica from back in the day!, ive heard this is what burton used to get the awesome fuzz tone in his solos and lead breaks in songs? this true, if so whats a reasonable price and how hard are they to change to 230v? as i believe there a mains supplied pedal? anyone used one on bass? andy
 8. i was a little disapointed when i a/b one with the svt pro-6 but in fairness there a big price gap between the to. i had a problem with how loud it is, as with my band id have been cranking it, but i agree it did have the ampeg tone but the pro's in my opion beat it as with the tube pre it just adds that little bit extra, but to be honest they aren't all bad, not like what alot of people make them out to be. infact ampeg aren't as bad as what people make them out to be.
 9. one of the songs is now up " waiting for my life to begin" please go have a listen and let me know what you think? also check out the other songs that were recorded at our drummers house all opinions are welcome they in the player at www.myspace.com/syruss andy
 10.
can be, IMV but depends on how you transport which is why I asked that question.... can you fit a 4x10 in the car or whatever ? Also, we are talking about a certain budget here and he also needs an amp. The Eden setup F/S was mentioned so I went along those lines for a practical answer, I think.. Unless you have crew you will probably have compromises in your kit... I tend to favour a smaller flexible set-up so I can mix and match but also get it into a coupe, on small gigs it is 2 carries if need be.. and for larger ones, 4 carries max It shouldn't break the back either but it is a very good sound for most stages. If space and weight wasn't the main issue, I would defo run other bigger cabs in a sub and a top end config
yep i dream the day when i can have roadies! my rig would be much different!
 11. just out of intrest do you guys not think of a 2x210 setup as a limiting setup?, ie you amp will be running at 4 ohms with basically a 410 on it? i know for transporting it is easier. kind of along the same lines but i really liked the 212 aguilar cabs that i tried out a while back i think they were the gs version? that was with the gk 700rb as well sounded ok, not a fan of the gk tone tho. andy
 12.
Something is broken then Could be a lead, a connector or who knows, but that is not normal!
+1 or are there input/output jacks? i would agree with what the guys have said upgrade the amp then go from there, this is what i did, i went from a 40w combo amp then started using a vintage trace v4 with matching 412 cab. loved that but the drummer would never have sold it, so i started looking for my own rig, got a orange ad140b and 115 cab but this even tho nice the 140w just wasn't enough unless in a small venue plus with the orange not having a di output for bigger venues was a pain (i know i could have used a di box). i was considering getting the other cab (410) but it would mean lugging around two cabs and i dnt think the volume increase would have been worth it. In the end i decided to trade the orange for an amp with a lot more power (ampeg svt pro-6) and also while at it i decided to go for a one cab system, i choose an ampeg 610hlf really easy to move around and a nice and loud rig. andy
 13.
Shoreline gold hasn't been available on regular American Standard instruments for quite some time. Sage Green was mostly a MiM colour and I don't recall it being available on MIA instruments at the time this Precision was built, but it does appear to be Sage Green indeed.
we'll go for sage green then :-)
 14.
Er, dunno how your monitors are set, but that's deffo not Shoreline Gold. Sage Green Metallic yes, Shoreline Gold no. MIA's did come in Sage Green Metallic for a few years not so long ago. Here, I'll even link to the Fender colour chart: http://www.fender.com/resources/colors/ I can definitely see the green tint, and it's lacking the redder tint that Shoreline Gold has.
actually yeh it has a green tint to it. andy
 15.
It is shoreline gold though, that is what the colour is actually called.
thanks now i know what it is cheers! andy
 16.
That's officially the first P-bass I've GASsed for! nicely done matey looks like a stunner!
thanking you sir! will look the dogs once it gets a black pickguard on it! :-) andy
 17.
That is shoreline gold isn't it?
ive had it called so many dif colours now! :-) its wicked whatever it is!
 18. im looking for a strap for my fender p-bass. i wear my bass quiet low and im looking for something with a cool design on it, anyone know a website in the uk? ive had a look round but there so many sites and the only ones i can find seem to only have the really bland straps? im not looking for leather, something custom would be quite cool tho. any idea's? heres a pic so you can get an idea as to how i wear my bass, its not rob from tallica low but still. andy
 19. just got it home! put on some dunlop ss strings i had lying around on it! its the perfect backup to my mody! this one is a keeper! unless someone wants to sell me a zon for 775 quid? here a shot of both my basses andy
 20.
Doubling on bass? nice! I know it sounds awesome on guitar! Maybe have different dirt pedals on each
nah honestly so happy with the sound we got, and it is all clean not effects on it at all! got one rough mix back on thurs, he spent bout 20mins on it after we'd done our vocal takes, and it sounds wicked! the bass is perfectly in the mix! and the other track we recorded wasn't even mixed was just as recorded and even that sounds cool! and in this song the bass stands out in the mix, which suits the song really well! all in all so happy with how its turned out so far, final mixes in a few weeks, the guy doing it is our friend and he is a bit concerned about mixing them as they sound good atm! but i know he do a wicked job plus ill probs go in with him and help mix it. here's a pic of our singer doing vocals, check the mic's! andy
 21.
that doesn't look like the most....er....acoustically ideal room. so, it's probably best that they were close mic'd. ^_^ PS -- As with any recordings, the key is to do what sounds best -- hence the above usage of 4 mics (presumably one will sound best, without the need for multiple takes to change mic's over). Generally, IME, close mic'ing sounds best on bass, although some mics can give a proximity bass buildup effect if too close.
yeh thing is we all loved the sound of each mic, and how they sounded together! so i think were gonna keep all four! :-) probs 3 at minimum, and there was a rumor of doubling up the tracks! andy
 22.
wow. Nice setup! I love ampeg... I've just finished some home recording - can't wait to get ina studio some time. Probably not going to happen. Saving up for a macbook pro, then by the time that happens I'll probably be @ uni, then another 5 years of debts, then maybe start a proper life... :/ Pretty cool, though! When you going to have some MP3s out? EDIT I swear you're meant to have the mics at least a metre away from the cab. Well, that recording magazine aboutrecording bass sucks butt!
were looking at getting the final mixes in a few weeks time, are friend is doing it for us. as soon as they up on our site i post a link up. i leave the mic positioning to the tech's :-)
 23. they went really well, was slightly nervous as I've only ever done live recording, I've never tracked just bass. was really relieved when i did both my parts (we did 2 songs) in 2 takes, the people we were recording with managed to capture my tone brilliantly! i think we did quite well time wise as we managed to record both songs complete bar vocals in 9hrs including setup, me and our singer will be doing vocals tomorrow. here a snap i took of my amp all mic'd up just before my takes. andy
 24. well it will be once i have payed for it in full! my bass teacher new i was looking for a 2nd bass, and this fitted the bill big time! 1998 mia p bass, with deluxe tuners and through body stringing! its really nice! the finish is teel green, its like metallic silver with hint of green. ive already got a plan to put a black pickguard on it then it will just be can't wait should have it all paid for in to months time. andy __________________
