1. Cheers Phil. I'm going to book a gig specifically for you to come and see us. This gig is tonight peeps! We'd really appreciate the support if anyone can get their arses down and check us out. Thanks, Dan.
  2.
Marshall Jackhammer or the EHX Metal Muff - both surprisingly versatile with powerful EQ. Even better if you use a Boss Line Selector to mix some clean in with it.
+1 on the Jackhammer. Click on my myspace link below and listen to 'My Ship Is Ship Shaped' @ 2:34 I stomp on the Jackhammer. Sounds like Thor gargling hammers. What's the deal with mixing drive pedals in the LS-2 loops? I've tried it with mine and in the A+B mix mode the levels are all over the place. Mega loud with the drive on and dead quiet with it off.
  3.
but sticking velcro to the rubber base never works, the velcro just comes off the pedal and stays stuck to the board.
Clean the rubber bases with methylated spirits or denatured alcohol and the sticky back velcro stays on there much better. I find the 2cm wide strips of stick on velcro from Wilkinson to be really good. Don't absolutely cover the bottom of the pedal with velcro either else it grips too well and will obviously tear off, you only need a couple of small bits to hold the pedal in place.
  4. I haven't played live in about 2 years but this should be a good 'un! Would be nice if some fellow local BCers could come down to support us on our first outing. Plus. it's FREE! Click my sig for myspace link. Mad Ferret ,55 Fylde Road, Preston
  5. I have a Boss PS-3 and recently acquired a Zoom expression pedal to use with it. My problem is that the portion of movement through the sweep of the pedal when it exerts it's effect is about a tenth of the pedals overall movement! It is impossible to control it with any sensitivity as it basically just switches from one extreme to another in such a small movement. Does Boss's own Expression pedal work any better or any other pedals out there? Or is the solution simply to mod the pedal so the pot inside is closer to the pivot point on the pedal and thus 'gearing it down'? Thanks Dan
  6. I always hear everyone on here raving about the Boss OC-2. I've been really patient with mine but I just can't get round the fact that it sounds cack.
  7. I couldn't play without 'em now. I use my Boss PH-3 and old Ibanez (Maxon) FL-9 ALOT! Compression and Sansamp are on constantly too. I'm currently running a seventeen pedal board. I'll get some decent pictures up in the pedal board thread in the next week or so. I think the whole keeping your tone 'pure' thing is a myth. Has anyone ever actually considered that the tone after it's been run through all the junk you've got before your amp and has supposedly 'lost something' or isn't as hi-fi might actually be the tone most people really want to hear?
  8. It's this one here:Thomann.de New condition £45 posted. (Markbass rack ears not included)
  9.
Aaaaargh. You're actually my wife aren't you?? Where the hell did I say that? No.... debating which is best is like a competitive sport - like football. And.... I don't like football. I'm allowed not to like football. *I* don't get why anybody would want to do either. I'm very sorry if I offended your footballing sensibilities. Never my intention.
It's possibly like tennis, but your football comparison is a load of balls. When did I ever say I liked football anyway?.. I hate tennis btw.
  10.
I honestly don't understand why this makes me an idiot. Even if I am an idiot (which is entirely likely) I don't see why you felt the need to be so rude.
So, the entirety of football can be likened to just one small sector of fretw***ing twangy tuneless bass players. Playing football can be likened to discussing which of these bass players is the best? hmmm. Woof
  11.
Sticks and stones can break my bones.... but it's easy to be a big man from behind a computer screen. You didn't even read what I wrote. I wasn't even talking about the playing... Ha!

It's the same reason people play football I suppose.
as for being the "big man", I'd quite happily call you an idiot to your face if you were to make such a stupid comment in my presence. Doesn't mean I'm being the 'big man'.
Some people do get agressive if you say anything slightly against football don't they?
I think you'll find on rereading that the "big man" talk is the first real allusion toward aggression here.
  12. He bought a pedal off me, send me the cash promptly. I thought I was a little tardy posting it but I heard no grumbles from him. Thanks.

Bought my Ashdown Mag300 head. Lovely chap and very patient despite me being late and causing him to miss his train.

Bought his Markbass amp and cab. Stuff was mint and a bargain. Very fast with replies despite not being in the country! Remarkably patient with my collection arrangements. His old man and gramps are top blokes too.

  17.
And nowadays we have the SADTM...Saturday Afternoon Double-Thumb Monster.
I feel so embarrassed around these types that the hair stands up on the back of my neck, I begin to feel physically sick and have to leave the shop in a hurry. Even as a young beginner I never engaged in this sort of behaviour, it's outrageous!
  18.
It's the same reason people play football I suppose. Another activity where I can't for the life of me understand why anybody would bother
Bit of a sweeping statement there. Idiot. I should assume that playing the fastest most tuneless drivel is the reason everyone plays bass then.
  19.
I have a cool and very lightweight white Yamaha RBX4 A2 AIR bass for sale - let me know if you're interested. Review here -
I was gonna suggest this bass! I was briefly GASing for a white one of these when they first came out.
  20.
Weight is not your primary issue here I don't think. It's about weight distribution and posture. You've kind of proved that with "The Precision causes less pain than the VMJ, which is strange because the Precision is the heavier of the two.". I would be looking a strap which distributes the weight as evenly as possible over BOTH shoulders and using a bass that balances perfectly with no neck dive before looking for a lighter bass. A lighter bass is not really going to help you as much as you think. Obviously in combination with the other two solutions it will help more. The Planet waves DARE straps are cheap enough to try out. I'd do couple of weeks of using it exclusively to let your muscles and posture adjust to it and see if you feel benefit. You should talk about posture with a specialist too.
Excellent advice. Go see a specialist and even take your bass with you. If you're particularly weak then just having one arm raised longer than the other is going to cause you posture problems and discomfort rather quickly and that's before you even factor in the weight of any bass.
  21.
smile, eye contact with audience, movement, communicate with each other with daft grins, farts, - make sure that you all look like you mean business and are there to give the audience a good time. Look like you're enjoying it and the audience will enjoy it more and sooner. With that , everything else will flow for you. We also make a point, generally speaking, of laughing out loud at each other's little cock-ups. It's all to easy to start glowering at each other and from there the tension creeps in.
Spot on, this is exactly how we're planning to approach it (first gig with current band next week). Almost like a rehearsal but with guests and less pauses. We're not really sure how we'll be received though since we're currently an instrumental outfit. I'm planning on dishing out Wagon Wheels to get the audience involved though.
Never had a problem with drummers (two of the most professional & reliable musicians I know are drummers) but keyboard players tend to be two faced sh*t-stirring treacherous bastards in my experience.....................
I can't stand bass players, moaning old ninnys, especially when they get together....
  23.
It may because they are not musicians and feel somewhat excluded in a band environment.
We do our utmost to get our drummer involved and keep his attention at every rehearsal. We've got colouring-in books, dot-to-dots, felt-tip pens and crayons, building blocks, Disney videos...
  24. Not so much let down by anyone in particular but totally underwhelmed by the standard of auditioning vocalists we've had through our practise room in the past 6 months. I've had moments where they start to sing and I have to just stare at my board because I know if I make eye contact with the others I'll just burst out laughing. Sick of time wasters now, I just tell them straight if they're crap or if we know from the off they're not right.
