The "Right" bass. How long will it last?
itsmedunc replied to itsmedunc's topic in General Discussion
About a week, tops.
I thought as much... -
I've been hunting down the 'right' basses for a years now but it seems the hunt is over... I'm sort of involved in two projects which I need different basses for. One is - a bunch of old mates hammering out Clash songs. I hunted for the 'right' P bass for years and eventually realised my JV is the 'one' and I cant fault it. I was using it as a back up bass! It truly is a magnificent instrument. That replaced my 79. I got a really nice Squier tele bass delivered off here today and that is more than adequate for a backup. So, that has replaced the JV. All problems solved. The other project is an originals band that I need at least 22 frets for. This project has gone on since 1987! We hardly ever play but I suppose its grown on me that much that I still keep on going back to it every couple of years! I suppose its part of me now. Anyway, after years of chopping and changing, I recently managed to get hold of a Westone Thunder 3 again (I had originally used one with them but stupidly sold it). So, first bass is now well and truly sorted and I also have an Aria SB-1200 as a backup (which is probably a bit ott to be honest). I'm more than happy with them but the question still looms - How long will it last...? I cant help but think I'm fooling myself...
Very wrong! Reported Edit 2: I have to say they are the nastiest tuners I've ever seen
They look like they've been battered on by a cooper... Not battered by a copper... but you never know...

It looks as good as a Westfield with a wrinkly decal though...

Just picked this up. Its Sky Blue (I think). Very well made. Unbelievably so for the money. Tried it through a Promethean combo and it sounds really well. Very jazz like. High gloss finish. Not light but not too heavy either. Quite impressive really. As well made if not better than a lot of Mex. The necks not as thin as a Fender jazz profile, its a bit of a cross between a J and a P. There's a few chips on the body but altogether its a very nice well made bass. Collect or arrange a courier. Possibility of meeting up. I head up the M6 to the South Lakes quite a bit and on Saturday daytime I'm in Harrogate. Or meet locally for a bit of fuel money... May trade for Boss ME-50/50B
Guitar more than any other electric instrument needs to be in both the PA and monitors, as its high frequency dispersion pattern is abysmal. The problem with most guitar players is that they play so loud that the small percentage of the audience that is within the dispersion pattern of their speakers end up with bleeding ears, while the rest, including a bass player standing only ten feet from the guitar amp but off to one side, can't hear them at all. The smart guitar player knows enough to use no more than a 1x12 speaker, so he can crank it for tone without excessive volume, letting the PA spread his sound across the room and the monitors across the stage.
Thanks for that! I'm going to forward this anonymously to the guitarist! I have to stand as far right as possible to him as he is far too loud for me. I wish he would agree to stand on the right though. The drummer and I would have a chance of communicating!
-
I'm surprised your guitarist needs to go through the PA never mind the monitors as well!!! Many guitarists are that loud onstage that the don't warrant going through the PA with small to medium gigs. One of our guitarists still doesn't know he rarely gets a channel. Problem is he can't understand that he needs to turn down! As for bass in monitors, I played with only monitor signal on Friday as the back line amp had blown. I've often considered not using my own gear and just using the monitors...
