1. Incubus first album "fungus amungus" is straight funk, lance Dirk is a very good bassist, its not in anyway like the incubus people know
2. Erm, pics? I would buy the highway one..... In principle, its cheaper on eBay at the moment but I hate eBay, so yeah PICS PICS PICS!!!!!! Postage details would be appreciated
3. Tokai, from what I know, only ever copied good basses, the rick is iconic but its sh*te, I reckon if tokai made a rick it would be called a tokai "soft to/moderate puncher" or something along those lines, pre lawsuit tokai never attempted to hide their responsibility for production so why would the rick clones be any different?
4. I got away with my flame whilst you two get to play Jeremy Kyle? Not fair!!!!
5. The Kramer flying V eh? Ugly bass but it has that "albini" alumininum mank tone that some bands sound amazing using (Shellac), I prefer the EGC alumininum basses though, I suppose the sound doesn't allways make up for the ugliness of the bass *see status and james ritter.
6.
I don't see myself as a player, the instruments are irrelevant. I try to play THROUGH the instrument, not ON it, that's when I know I'm truly expressing myself, but it's a rare thing. I look at the neck when I play most of the time, but that doesn't matter. I suppose there are quality criteria, musicianship, craft, expression, finesse .. but these are highly subjective. If you can play what's in your head, then that is a test, but if what's in your head is not satisfying you, then there's another test. It's a purely personal question and it's not really easy to answer. Someone may think I'm 'a player' or 'not a player', I know I would have to do an ENORMOUS amount of work to get to Jake Newman level, but I don't want to be at that level, I can do what is required of me to a good standard of technical execution and finesse and expression. What I require of myself is usually emotive rather than technical, I sometimes achieve that, most of the time laziness and conflicting priorities get in the way.
This statement sums my philosophy up to a T. I know loads of "tech" players with theory coming out their arse that have not an ounce of feeling behind their playing, if you play bass then you are a bass player. I find that a player who feels the music and interprates the music with an honest and personal aproach will impart more to a piece of music than someone who is aware of the aceptable chromatic logic in the notes and chords in said peice. Forgive the spelling.
7. Hey man that bass is bloody lovely!
8. They tried to sue fender for being better basses, and for Geddy theft.
9. ACG do a chalbered pup bass where the pup is under the wood in a cavity, i would reckon the scottish dudes luthier was Allan
10. ive played a couple and the build quality was awfull and even with adjustment and replacement pups i found them watery? yeah...watery sounding, the lindo jazz basses I have tries (everyone who I know who gets a first bass tends to get a stagg or lindo btw) is possibly the worse bass I have held, remember when everyones first basses used to be squires, arias or tanglewoods? sigh.
11. The new Godspeed you! Black emperor, it is simply just better than us all.
12.
Fender roadworn Jazz- a wet turd??? You got to be kidding me!!
What? when did I mention a Fender Roadworn in this post, if you read mine back you will see I am a fan of Fenders. I was saying that some basses are simply poor regardless of the adjustments you make to them (Stagg and lindo for example) and that some have no excuse for needing such major adjustments (gibsons) So no, im not kidding you, I just don't think you caught my post right.....I was refering to the last bit that said its not what you play. Thats an admirable sentiment but you are equating a Fender to a cheap bass, which it isnt unless you consider a fodera or Wal bass normally priced, I was pointing out that some basses are simply rubbish and a good bass with versitility does add to a bass players arsenal regardless of developement or talent.....if not we would all play £80 lindo basses.
13. If a band at a pub I was at played limp bizkit, disturbed or korn, me and my narrow mind would leave. I just have this theory that middle class yanks espousing directionless rage and anger to fellow 1st world woe mongers or spouting out such class as "I did it all for the nookie" a tad distressing, unfocused aggression and unjustifiable self loathing don't do it for me. But then I'm a dik.
14.
Yes and yes, couple of twiddles on the bridge and truss rod and they were fine. Quick move of the strap button/chuck some weight on the body end of your strap and the t-bird stays put just lovely. If you can't play bass well you may need to buy a more expensive instrument to make up for it. *flame on....*
Grrrrrr For the price of a t-bird and the amount of time gibson have had to perfect the "design" I resent having to tweak the bugger just to get a well balanced bass, at the end of the day I prefer to play on a well balanced peice of wood with a good allroung range (exepting my P bass which has a,,,,,p bass range but its allowed) rather than an unweildy coffe table . Oh and for the record, some of the cheap tanglewoods and aria basses I have played are just as good as alot of branded mid range basses...flame returned
15. iD swap one of my bairns for that JAZZ, DO NOT SELL IT.
16. +1 on that, I fitted dm's to mine to get more eh....ping? Aye ping I do love how they play though.
17. I have to disagree, have you played a lindo or a stagg, or tried to let go of a thunderbird without the headstock brutaly saluting Isaac newton? It's not what you play, its how you play it, and if you try to play bass guitar using a wet turd, your hands get shity. Word.
18. Hi, destroy the decapitated Ibanez looking thing in the middle, yuck.
19. Ibanez Sr basses actually sound ok for the money but yeah......zero wow factor, and butt ugly.
20. Our setlist for my covers band. Talking heads; psycho killer KOL; Molly's chambers Raconteurs; steady as she goes White stripes; I just don't know what ..... The strokes; last night/hard to explain Radiohead; high and dry/ fake plastic trees Bowie; suffrajet city Arctic monkeys; dancefloor Billy idol; white wedding ( not happy about this one) T Rex; get it on The clash; stay or go And more filler, its not my taste in music per say (although I got no beef with talking heads) I have my original band to indulge my sonic youth and fugazi fixation. The pub punters don't want to hear that so our set tries to be different yet familiar at the same time
21. And yes, that ying yang bass was horrendous, also entwhistles spider and status basses.
22. I actually prefer the New Warwick necks to the old ones but I know this puts me in a minority :-) fodera basses are a bit pricey but there is a lot of work and attention to detail, in the end you will end up with a fender
23. I would love to have the spare cash to afford the luxury of owning a lakland, I've played one and it was special, sadowski jazz basses make Me smile also, tone monster! I did recently play a cort a4 and for the price it was special, but then I'm a sucker for bartolinis
24. It may come as no surprise that I may have a slight amount of disdain for Rickenbacker, unweildy, uncomfortable and with ZERO versitility. The sound is however, unique. Rickenbackers piss me off so much due to the attitude of the company that makes them. There are worse basses out there that do not justify their price or reputation so here goes. Stienberger: Sounds like a synth(ish) and makes you look like a twat. Modulus, any modulus! have you played them? Awful. Gibson Thunderbird, even the better ones with zero neck dive sound like slurry, Tokais copies sound better! So yeah, attack! defend! or mediate
