Buy an old 24v Q-Tron. It's exactly what you've described. Maybe the newer 9v models are just as good, I don't know, I haven't tried one. But the old stainless-boxed Q-Tron is really squelchy, peaky and funky.
Sounds like a dead spot to me. Most have them around the 7th fret on the G string, ie, the D note I had this problem too with my OC-2, and ruled out the frequency problem as I could play the 12th fret on the D string without it wavering. Try playing the same riff in a different position. Might help
Yeah my biggest bugbears with the OC-2 have usually been dead spots between frets 6 and 8 on the G, or the odd buzzy note where a fret needs levelling or action raising, but if he's having issues with every D and it's not just crapping out quickly (as it would with a dead spot) it sounds like something else is causing it.
I have the bass in the monitor, and put up with what I have to TBH. Sometimes it's sh*t, sometimes it's better than the FoH, like my Brighton gig with Krupa on Saturday. Portability is my key requirement because I travel to a lot of my gigs on public transport.
I used to get my Laney 100w combo on the bus when I was a kid. I had castors on the bottom of it and I'd meet my guitarist at the bus stop (he had his combo on a skateboard). Easy! Yeah OK a preamp would've been nicer. I can't stand not being able to hear myself though, it would drive me nuts gigging like you. Plus I'd probably always be pissed by the time I went on stage if I wasn't driving...
I use a POD X3 LIVE into the PA. I get all the sounds I love at the touch of a button and let the GLORIOUSLY BASSY PA take care of the rest.
I take it you get your bass in your monitor then? Any tips on how you manage that? Quick reacharound for the sound guy or something?

Link to some synth sounds you'd like to emulate. "Synth pedal" can mean anything from actual waveform generation to fancy filters and dirt, or even fancy distortions like that new Soundblox multiwave pro box. If you show us the noises you want to make we can recommend gear, or wish you all the best while exchange knowing looks.

Hmm. That doesn't sound normal. Is your bass resonating in a weird way when you play a D or multiples of that frequency? It might be a bit wolfy at that frequency; if you have a digital recorder, try tracking just your bass, look at the waveform and see if the D comes out especially louder or quieter than other notes around it. The OC-2 (any analogue "tracking" pedal really) does a good job of showing up duff bits of bass guitars. Eg. It chokes on dead spots that you might not have really noticed before.
You are such a charmer, I bet you are real fun to hang with...
I would rather just say "This isn't going to work for me, sorry lads, good luck". If you're soloing instead of playing your part then you're likely to cause even more rehearsal of the song you're already bored of, because the cloth-eared berks won't be able to figure out why it doesn't sound right. The band sound like a pretty unworkable bunch to me, but I would've politely ditched them when I realised how much of my time they were hoping to waste with silly rituals like the PA thing described above, running through simple songs more times than is necessary, smoking in the rehearsal room (I only recently stopped smoking but I voluntarily stopped smoking indoors several years ago because it's such an anti-social thing to do), etc. As for advertising for a replacement before telling the guy you're planning to replace, well that is rude. I've had it happen to me in the past and I wasn't impressed. But that's not what I was commenting on.
I think they just want a plodder, hitting the right chord changes every now and then. I dont think they could handle the mini solos I put in whilst they were trying songs over and over again.
If you were bored enough to not want to play the songs properly you should've just quit instead of tooling around playing "mini-solos".
I recently went to Groezrock in Belgium. AFI were one of the highlights.
Our trumpet player went to Groezrock, she'd also seen AFI twice a couple of weeks before (in Manchester and Newcastle), so that made it three times she saw AFI in about a month.

level 42 people...how to get the sound...

Oh I'm not missing the fags at all its just my appetite has gone mental. I'm also drinking way faster than I used to, which I think is compounding the problem! But no I don't miss the fags and I've no interest in smoking again. -

Do you know I've actually given up chocolate hob-nobs because I've put on two stone since I quit smoking. It's a miserable life as an ex-smoker. -
Sounds like just a band-pass filter to me, peaked somewhere in the high mids.
First reply. I win the biscuits. -
whats B+H - probably something really obvious!
Boosey & Hawkes - lots of student instruments were sold in the UK with this brand name (I've got a B&H trombone sitting on a stand behind me).
Rolling your eyes at the guitarist while he tries to figure out the chords to a song because "I've been really busy this week." S.P.
Well in that spirit I should add that I spend most of my time prodding our trombonist in the neck until he puts his ****ing iphone away.
I GAS for a Pickle Pie B and a silicon Assmaster, wouldn't mind a tasty Muff too.
The PPB is the best bass-friendly Muff ever, IMO. I ended up trading mine for a Mammoth because I didn't really need a Muffy fuzz, but if I did want a Muff I would get another PPB. I don't like the new green he's using now though, the original dark green ones were beautiful.
However, if i could only take one dirt pedal to a desert island, i wouldn't even blink before choosing the Mammoth.
It's a bit of a one-trick pony though TBH. It's a great sound but it really only does that one sound. But then you could say the same about all my favourite pedals.

Wow, loads of great feedback there thanks Jennifer! I also heard that it's best to avoid touching the body of the instrument to avoid damping it with your knee or whatever. I'm trying to do that too - just letting the corner of the rib sit against my waist and that's the only contact. Endpin is a surprising suggestion to me, I didn't even think of that. I have an alu pin in there at the moment, it's pretty thick, over 10mm surely maybe 15mm. I might have to get that book too. I must confess I am not a practical geezer at all but I am always curious and it's nice to know how things work. Doddy: Yeah I have some experimenting to do in that regard. I definitely noticed some approaches made me more audible and didn't feel like a huge exertion. I got up the next day though with bruises on the back of my picking hand (bit worrying) and a sore right shoulder and bicep of all things. So god knows what I was doing
btw the fact that ANYONE who rates flatwound strings must be (at least) a sixty year old drunk oh surely you dont need to know that thats a joke too???
Funnily enough I was enjoying the sound of flatwounds when one day I plugged my flatwound-strung Jazz into my pedal board. Instant perfect note-tracking on analogue octavers. So it turns out flats are the best choice for modern bassists too. Full circle type nonsense thing wotsit happenings.
