I use the Plat Pro myself, I like it because I often need a lot of volume and it seems to be geared entirely towards eliminating feedback. The EQ doesn't seem particularly useful for anything else, but I don't think a preamp is a good place to look for an improvement to a double bass sound anyway.

I love this sound, wish I knew a good scratch DJ but there is nobody around here. I've been thinking lately about putting together a little hip-hop soundsystem to put a load of instrumentals together for people to guest on, and I've got a couple of talented guys who would be really up for it but finding a DJ is nigh on impossible. New Beastie Boys album is out on Monday. Quite excited.

FWIW I would want an OC-2, a very squishy compressor and a bass with a bridge pickup. I think that's all you need.

It's an easy mod on a stock Jazz, just need a switch (I used a tone pot with a push/pull three pole switch).

I only use the front pickup, sometimes I have the tone all the way up, sometimes I have it all the way down. I used to use the bridge pickup when I was younger but I think I grew out of it.

I noticed recently that my Squier Jazz has two pickups that are the same size, I think they're both bridge-sized pickups. I remember my last Jazz (a USA model) had two slightly differently-sized pickups. Anyone know if there's a standard for this sort of thing - are Fender's USA Jazzes always different sized pickups? What about Mexican models? Japanese? More 'upmarket' Squiers like the VM and CV models?

TBH I'm surprised they didn't walk out earlier. Ten minutes of what they thought was an interview turning out to be a set up for some lame gags, pretty poor show. Clive Anderson still comes across as a twat when he turns up on TV.

I'm happy with the sound of my current bass with spiros on the E and A and Evahs on the D and G but I want to string one up for a rootsy, gut-ish sound. Our guitarist and drummer used to be in a 'billy 3-piece and we're thinking about busking some of that stuff this summer. Just trying to figure out which corner of the house I can lean another DB up in!

Do you want to arrange a split on the cost of a G4M bass, you take the case and I'll take the bass? I live in York - just down the road from G4M who are in Poppleton - so maybe we can sort something out? I'm looking for a cheap bass to rig up for slap stuff at the moment, and fancy scraping all the orange crud off one of theirs this summer maybe.
