  1. At this time of night? He’ll be snoring in front of the telly
  2. Ive just ordered some d’addario chrome flats for it. The stock strings are really bright and I think the bass has enough articulation to be able to handle flats without sounding muddy. Anyone else using flats on one of these?
  3. skinnyman: (Aside to audience) These fools send me their money and think I’m saving it for them! They don’t know that they have bought me a yacht and a boob job! (to Teebs and Ricky) Of course, chaps. It’s all safely put away in our private account! You can trust me (mwah, hah, hah, hah) (Exits, sniggering to himself. Curtain)
  4. They’ll be down the subterranean headquarters again, getting their weekly injections from Ped.
  5. Surprised the profanity filter didn’t go off there.... No he’s not. Haven’t seen a penny
  6. it has to be said. Ubit is not the man I had pictured from his posts. Oban has definitely changed in the last forty-odd years. Still, I’m all for a bit of diversity. And they don’t come much more diverse than that. I suspect that Mrs Ubit carried his outfit off rather better than he presents hers.....
  7. To be honest, I was going for humorous effect.... I was trained to put milk in first so that the hot water wouldn't shatter a China cup, so - irrespective of anything those smart-@rses at QI might say - thats what i do. Anything else is clearly wrong and should be illegal
  8. I can't be certain but i thought it was Rangers - but his well known support for Celtic has always made me question my memory. Maybe i was right after all....
  9. After all these years I'm doing well to remember that it was Hamilton so the club name has definitely gone. I was working in (another) Curry's store and one of the salesmen worked in this club that was owned by his Dad. Apparently, Rod used to host a private party there every year for his preferred football team (and i can't now remember if it was Celtic or Rangers) - they wanted casual bar staff for the night and he asked me if I fancied earning a few quid.....
  10. That's a shame as I put a lot of effort (and hangovers) into that store. The whole 'Scottish experience' was brilliant and as a naive young man, I learned an awful lot of life lessons from the people i encountered. I still remember the chill feeling when out for a drink with the hotel receptionist up in Wick and her trawlerman boyfriend came back early from a fishing trip. He was about nine foot tall with hands like sides of ham..... I also remember the local ambulance used to go past the shop with lights and sirens every lunchtime so the driver could nip home for his lunch.... See, you've started me off now......
  11. Loving it, thanks. Very much what NFF says. I'm trying hard to get the strings broken in and see what it sounds like then but the probability is that I'll put some flats on it. I really like how easy it is to play and how light it is. I've been having trouble (as documented elsewhere) learning a couple of pieces and my thinking was that i could use a SS bass to get myself fully up to speed and then transfer to the "big" bass. The theory seems to be holding up in practice but the bass is turning out to be so much more than I'd expected. I always take a spare bass to gigs and this is perfect - I'd happily gig it as the main bass too. So, all in all, very pleased. Thanks for doing the market research for me 😁
  12. I have very fond memories of Oban. I opened a branch of Currys up there back in the seventies, staying at Mrs McLeod's guest house for the three months it took to train up the staff and get it all ready. Did loads of walking, got taught to fly fish, saw a good few bands and learnt to drink properly. It followed a few months in Dumbarton, 3 months in Glasgow and was followed by final stint in Wick and Thurso. Happy days..... Ooh, look at me getting all dewy-eyed and nostalgic..... I served Rod Stewart a drink once in a night club in Hamilton. That is my only claim to fame.....and I suspect he's forgotten all about it 😕
  13. Mike just bought my Squire Bass VI, travelling a decent way to come and meet me. As others have said - and as I know from my two previous transactions with him - Mike is a great guy to do business with. Deal with confidence!
  14. It happens to us all and i now have the set list on a tablet with a memory jogger by each song.
  15. We have a winner! Genius 😁
  16. I guess you're right. Plus, if I did it properly I'd never find the bleedin' thing
  17. I guess it reminds me of the old Morris 1100 GPO van that my dad used to drive. I'm also tempted to do it camo. Or is that too naff?
  18. Indeed - although I'm toying with the idea of a respray 😁
  19. Hmmm. You're not up for the same gig as me are you? I've been asked to learn it as an audition piece 😎 😁 And i have to agree - it's not "hard" as such but getting the right groove going is really tricky. Nice when you nail it though and there are some lovely runs in there. The other one that - for me - is in the category of 'easy-but-surprisingly-hard-to-get-right' is Going Up The Country by Canned Heat. Dead simple 12 bar - but i really had to work to get it up to speed. I now use it as a warm up/workout piece
  20. Been after a short scale bass for a while and having sold my Bass VI, I traded in an old 12 string acoustic to get this wee thing on @Teebs' recommendation I'm not convinced about the colour but I'm very impressed with the noise it makes. I'm even more impressed with having some change from the deal 😀
