  1. Devastated by the passing of a musical leviathan. Easily in the top 10 of most guitarists, even if they’re not even a fan of rock music, and probably holds the top spot for many. Despite what seemed like a symbiotic relationship with his guitar he hardly ever tried to overshadow a great song with an over egged solo. Indeed, his solos always left you wanting more, unless you were fortunate enough to see him live and unleashed. So pleased he lived through his genius & realised his greatness was that of a true legend. RIP Eddie Van Halen..

  3. No, it’s still on hold. Went in to KGB Musical Instruments (Merseyside based guitar luthier) last week for a service. Mainly on the crackly electrics. Due to be picked up around 23rd Jan.
  4. http://shukerguitars.co.uk/price-guide/ Ive been asked the cost of a new bass guitar of the type I’m selling! Just thought I’d put the above link to the Shuker website price guide. It gives prices for through neck and bolt neck designs. Take into account the one I’m selling is a 5-string through neck design with Bartolini’s. Prices start at £2750.00 - I’d suggest that the one I’m selling would be over £3000.00 NEW
  5. Unfortunately I have no idea. I do know Jon Shuker has his own preamp - I assume it’s his own, but I don’t know. Sorry! The pickups are Bartolini..
  6. I’ve been asked about the body size, insofar as how big it looks. I think it’s pretty compact in size for a 34’ 5 string, but I thought I’d post some pics of it next to my sons V7 Jazz. It’s also quite a slim body thickness. The electronics consist of a push / pull volume control; pick up sweep between bridge & neck with central lock; 3 tone controls Bass / Mid / Treble (boost / cut on each) with central position lock. A couple of pots are slightly stiff to turn but don’t effect the sound and they’re not loose. Everything on this bass is rock solid. But I do reiterate: The electronics could do with a small service, reflected in the asking price!
  7. Behind every great bass player there’s a half decent drummer. Geddy Lee was a lucky guy! Sometimes the planets align a certain way and greatness comes together. What a band, and what a brilliant musician. Sad loss.. 😔
  8. Thanks for the interest, I would need to some pics and have more information about your Jazz Deluxe. It would also need to be American. There is already a U.S. Jazz deluxe on this forum that I want, so it would need to be as good as that. The cost of insured shipping (Eurosender) to France would need to be added, as well as the added cost of Hiscox flight case, that I wasn’t going to add to the sale as it’s the last case I have and I’d need to purchase another one. Hence, I was looking ideally for local pickup. You’d be looking at a total cost of around £1100..?!
  9. Shuker 5 String Single Cut.. Back to £1000 Turns out the active is fine it’s just a noisy socket (that I already knew about). On this style of active the tone controls don’t function in passive mode; they come in to play when the push/pull volume control goes active; according to Barry at KGB. The actives are not Bartolini (unlike the pick-ups) - it appears they are Shukers own & incidentally I think it sounds great. KGB is replacing a pot and a noisy socket so I’m down about £45.00. As I’ve had the work completed and pick up the guitar tomorrow it’s back to the original ALREADY LOW asking price of £1000. I’m keeping the information below for clarity, but it’s no longer £850; and it is functioning fine.. *** £850 - If you get it fixed..! *** There is a fault with the active side of the electronics; the passive works okay 👌. I’m only selling this bass to fund a Jazz Deluxe / Elite or Ultra, and I’ve seen one I like for £850. If your prepared to except the fault, then you are getting an absolute bargain & a luthier could make the active sing again. This offer can only last while the other bass is still available or until the guys at KGB musical instruments fix the fault, but they haven’t contacted me yet so I could pick it up in a heartbeat. £850 doesn’t cover postage or hard case. I’d like someone to pick it up or buy my hard case and arrange their own courier from my address. If you buy the hard case £50 (Hiscox) and arrange your own courier I’ll wrap this bass in all kinds of bubble wrap packing and place the lot in a bass size cardboard box.. If in the meantime KGB fix my guitar this bass goes back to £1000..! Still Getting the electronics fixed. Due to illness the guitar is still (1 week thus far) at the workshop (KGB Musical Instruments). £1000 Up for sale / or trade is my Shuker Single Cut - 5 string. I’ve owned it for about 8yrs and never really gigged it. Mainly used for practice sessions and home playing. It could probably do with a small service (crackly jack skt) but it’s still very playable; in good overall condition with low action and a stable, fast shallow neck. 34’ Scale and Bartolinis. Payed a lot more than I’m selling for. The only mark I can see on it is a small nick in the lacquer on the top edge of the body. Not sure of the woods but I think the facing is spalted ash with a tiger stripe finish that looks amazing. 24 frets in good condition. Currently fitted with 30-115 (super light) Status steel round wound strings, and there’s precious little rattle. It’s a lot of bass for the price! Selling as I’ve recently played a friends USA 77 jazz at a gig; and I want one. So this has to make way. If anyone has a newish re-addition 70’s jazz I’ll consider a trade / swap..! Ideally a USA Jazz Deluxe with the block (70’s style) neck inlays and edge binding or an Elite or Ultra.. ideally looking for a buyer to arrange local pick-up.
  10. Firstly; unless it’s a custom shop or vintage, most fender jazz bass’s are factory produced & are readily available new or used.. Most punters at a bar, who don’t play a guitar, wouldn’t know the difference between a Fender Jazz or a Sire V7. If it was stolen or damaged my insurance would cover some part of its value and I’d get a like for like replacement fairly easily. The Shuker is pretty much one of a kind. I appreciate Shuker makes the same instrument over and over again but they tend to be in different woods or finishes - hence, I’d say my Shuker is fairly unique! In the 8yrs I’ve owned the guitar I’ve gigged probably only a dozen times. Why? The issue with playing it live is that it turns heads; people notice the instrument and between sets it attracts attention. Usually from people who don’t know anything about luthier built guitars. On pretty much every gigged occasion I’ve been asked about its build quality and it’s PRICE..!! Which got me very concerned one night! The guitarists vintage gold-top; no interest from anyone. If it gets stolen - it’s gone; irreplaceable in its format. £1200 - pretty cheap for a decent enough bass guitar these days. Probably wouldn’t consider playing an instrument for much less.
  11. Apologies for putting this topic on this thread; I appreciate it looks like I’m trying to sell my bass by bypassing the Marketplace rules; but I’ve already got a thread on there and have paid the approp funds too. Apologies for the confusion, but I’m genuinely torn between selling and buying another bass & just wanted some opinion.. 😔
  12. Should I sell my bass?? A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of using a friends Fender USA Elite Jazz bass, which has active electronics and that 70’s block inlay / edge binding vibe. As the night came to a close the bar management suggested we play anything we like to send the punters on their merry Christmas way. As we were given some freedom of choice we played black-dog and another one bites the dust. Now in rehearsal we often ham these tunes up to a funky level that the chilli peppers would be proud of; or to put it another way, I slap the heck out of em..! The Fender bass was amazing; I’d forgotten just how good they are. I’d gone down the road of exotic woods and a luthier build that borders on artistry. I own 2 x 5-string Shukers. My first was a double cut away. So impressed with its playability I stumbled upon a single-cut that plays equally as good soon after. So purchased that too (see pics)! The problem is; I want a modern take on 70’s style 4-string American jazz with a maple neck! Ideally an Elite or Deluxe; and it just so happens there’s a Deluxe on this very forum that ticks all my boxes. Last week I put my single-cut up for sale on this site and enjoyed some interest for a few days; but no definitive offers. After thinking it through I decided to remove it from sale as my heart doesn’t want anyone else to own it - but I still want the jazz; badly! Now I don’t use the single-cut nearly enough; certainly not for gigging. Or at least not now. Mainly because it’s too pretty for some places I’ve played (too scared it’ll get damaged or taken). So I probably look at it more than I play it, so to speak. Saving up for a Jazz, around £1000 - £1300 (used but loved), is going to take a good few months; as a young family and an NHS salary don’t seem compatible! So what do I do? Should I sell a Shuker I like, but don’t play so much, for a Fender Jazz workhorse I’ll probably play into the ground..?? There’s also a side to me that thinks I just don’t need 3 great bass guitars. 2 is probably enough! Any thoughts..??
  13. Not sure on the wood, but I think the face is spalted ash with a tiger stripe finnish. I’ve included a few more pics of the back.
  14. If I can sell my Shuker Single Cut 5 string (on another thread here) I may be in the very interested market for this bass.. Just what I’m looking for with the maple neck. fingers crossed I can sell mine soon..!
  15. *** WITHDRAWN FROM SALE *** decided I’d rather save up for a deluxe jazz bass than part with this..! Probably going to kick myself for doing this but up for sale is my Shuker Single Cut - 5 string. I’ve owned it for about 8yrs and never gigged it. Only used for practice sessions and home playing. It could probably do with a service but it’s still very playable with low action and a stable neck. 34’ Scale and Bartolinis. Payed a lot more than I’m selling for.. 16. I slap a lot, probably more than I should (I even slap Zeps Black Dog!).. If you slap, you need compression to tighten the attack of the pops and thumps. Just make sure you work on the input and output levels to get the right effect out of the compressor.. I use 3 compressors in my chain; 1 on a boss ME50 pedal board,, 1 on a line 6 racked bass pod and 1 on board my tc staccato head.. They're set differently and programmed for different tracks,, but it's about getting the balance of your levels right.. I have a limiter but it's set at a constant level for everything I do and so is of limited use just for slapping on its own.
  17. Here's my 2 shukers, neither of which for sale (or likely to be either), any buyer won't be disappointed. The dual carbon truss creates such a stable neck.
