In case anyone is still interested in HPFs after about a week off ... the Broughton I bought got held up at customs who, together with Royal Mail, added a lovely charge of about £18, taking the cost of the pedal to about £118 all in. The Thumpinator or another home-made options would have avoided this!

hi mate - are you up for using a courier to ship it?

https://www.zoom.co.jp/sites/default/files/products/downloads/pdfs/E_B3n_FX-list_0.pdf
page 5. It has a blue star ... does that mean it comes with firmware update???
-
Maybe relevant to others reading this, the Zoom B3n does have an adjustable HPF, in the Low-Eq module. It is adjustable HPF from 20hz to 640hz.
-
my reading is a bit different to @CameronJ - I think @Al Krow is saying all his cabs rattle with that bass plugged in.
I would think it is very unlikely that all your affected cabs have the same resonant frequency (or close enough) or sensitivity to sub-bass so that they all rattle in the same way when a certain bass gets plugged in. Could it be that the rattle / fault is on the bass itself and is being amplified whatever it gets plugged into? Hard to say without hearing it.
I mean ... is the problem really sub-bass, or just a rattle on the bass or in the 'tronics?

Hmmm...just wondering if I'm going to end up spending a couple of £hundred on a Broughton HPF / LPF if it would make sense to go one step further and get the Tech 21 Q Strip? This is the other pedal with both an HPF and LPF (plus a para EQ and a DI out, so does a lot more than the Brougton) and it has all analog circuitry and the whole package of this and the Broughton will obviously be a step up from what a Zoom MS-60B can deliver with its digital simulated effects.
Had a look at the spec and doesn't seem to say on the Tech 21 website at what freqs the HPF and LPF kick in and how much they cut by? Freq response curves for this anyone - maybe @Tech21NYC can jump in on this one?
I know how this kind of thinking works and it leads, step by step, to you parting with more cash than you may actually need to!
It sounds like you either need to use (not own) a notch filter to find the problem frequency or use a variable HPF to eliminate the deep bass / inaudible stuff. Q strip seems like something you want more than need!! I 've been there too
For what its worth I've bought the Broughton HPF (not the HPF+LPF) and shipped to the UK its was under £100. Not got it yet. If you don't need a LPF (doesn't seem you need one) then the Broughton solution isn't as close to Q strip money as you might think, and the HPF is variable. Also worth noting that Josh (Broughton) does make a smaller, cheaper, non-variable HPF too.
As for Q strip HPF frequency, I don't know but the paradriver v2 has one too (Rumble Filter), and Tech21 chipped in to this thread about where it kicks in (100hz he thinks). Of course, Q Strip may be different, FWIW:

Just out of interest which bass heads actually incorporate a High Pass Filter. I know that the Mesa D800+ does, so who else?
ABM 500 / 600 / Neo etc definitely don't have one as standard. The ABM 1000 does though (and maybe the 1200?), they made a decision to protect speakers from peaks of 2kW. Got a great email from Ashdown today about it.

Yeah

This was what I used to do with the trusty red slider. My ABM doesn't really do it.
I've ended up going for a Broughton. I get the feeling it'll become more and more common on new amp and pedal designs but for now the options are relatively limited.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Seems there's a pretty compelling case for an HPF, which is where I was leaning but it's very good of you all to share you're experiences.
Thanks, Doug

thanks JW, really appreciate the input ... although I was hoping someone was going to talk me out of it, ha!

My question is ... should I get one??? I think I've been doing too much reading and have convinced myself that i need a HPF to protect speakers and improve efficiency etc. My amp doesn't have one and dedicated pedals seem a tad pricey for such an apparently simple thing. When I say pricey I mean they don't come up 2nd hand and are hard to justify when I am not sure if they are going to make an audible difference.
What 's your experience been and is it worth the cash and having to carry another box + power supply?
About me: I play a passive but high output 4 string Jazz through an ABM Evo4 through some combination of a BFM Jack 12 and an Ashdown 408 neo cab. Rarely if ever plan to use both cabs together by the way .. but you never know!
Thanks folks

Bass 1, in the corner of the living room, mostly hidden by sofa. It's a nice retro looking jazz and does not look too bad poking it's head up.
Bass 2, on longterm loan at my mates, where it annoys his wife not mine:)
Electric gtr: hangs on wall in living room. Beautiful 335 in candy apple red, missus can't argue with hanging art on the wall!
Acoustic gtr: not so pretty but also on the living room wall. Road worn = shabby chic in this case.
Amp (head) : under the stairs.
Cab: garage.
Strings, cables n crap: my studio... by which I mean a drawer in the dining room which also contains a usb lead and an audio interface

Hi folks,
##KEEPING THIS AFTER ALL, SUCH A GOOD LITTLE BOX! ###
Selling my Battalion, you probably know what it is. I think it sounds great but a change of amp means I no longer need it.
Pics to follow but for now, https://www.ehx.com/products/battalion
It is in very clean condition, has only had studio use, and comes with the power supply and original box. The box is a bit tatty (northern vernacular for 'road worn' or 'reliced') but the pedal is very clean.
Cheers, Doug

me too!
I've seen one in the flesh and it looked nice, was small and portable so I am trying hard to find a reason to not pull the trigger on one
Not heard one yet though ...

Anyone got one of these? Been seriously tempted to get one, seems like great value and a bit different. Thoughts??

Hi folks,
SOLD NOW.
going through a bit of a cleanse here so this wonderful amp is being sold. It is in very good clean condition and works perfectly. I've used it only very lightly but enough to know that it sounds awesome and is potently loud.
It is the 250w RMS amp (at 4ohms), features the glorious tube preamp (blendable with the solid state one), 12 band eq with speaker-saving red knob, plus the dual-band and eq-tilting SMX compressor. Don't let the 250w power rating fool you, these are the magical Trace Elliot Watts which seem to defy the laws of physics. It is beastly loud!
I'm selling as I am not gigging at the moment and want to fund studio time.
More pics are here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1gNoFxPMZRrskEpRIMkE4vPpoboBnNB9o
If any one looks at the pics and is wondering ... the little red things that can be seen at the back are Rawl plugs! They are there just there to provide a little bit of support to the amp at the back. The amp is designed to be mounted by the rack ears so they are technically redundant but I wedged them in there to provide a bit of 'suspension' at the back! Easy to remove if you want to.
In terms of the price.
I am looking for £200 for the amp head itself.
£75 for the immaculate and GREEN flight case.
That gives you a nicely racked head for £275, or you can buy either item separately.
Postage in the UK is fine but is at your expense.
Thanks, Doug.

sorry Pete, must have forgotten to mark this as sold.
They do come up on Ebay every now and again if you really want the vintage one.
Doug.

Hi donslow,
will get some pics at the weekend (tomorrow). Price is £40 (at the top of the thread) and I'm just outside Newcastle but can post it. I think postage would be about £10 as it'd be classed as a large parcel.
It is used but in pretty clean condition (usual scratch marks on the headstock protector from string ends) - with the addition of 2 shiny blue carabiners!
Cheers, Doug,

Totally agree with you on trusting used gear on BC. Nice idea, but I'm pretty set on a combo mate. Got a big head already (hopefully not literally!) so this is about a portable box to take to sessions and jam with.
The more I think about it the more the Roland is making sense for me. I'm only drawn to the ashdown because of the tweed if I'm honest!! Ha ha, so shallow:)

thanks Tontee,
TC combos are a good call. They cost new what I can get a used Cube 120 for.
the other one in my shortlist of the anniversary edition tweed Ashdown combo: https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/ashdown-mag-c112-250-bass-combo-limited-edition-tweed
