  1. Hi all,

    Any interest in this?

Looking to sell an amp head I bought new from Andertons about 6 months ago but I'm not using.

Absolutely mint condition, includes the fender gig bag for it.

You can easily find reviews and the specs online.

    Pictures are here:https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1MalrKNY2Jg8_J8K_RBgXL6qAOxyV3wcE

    Price dropped to £300

Price does not include  postage, but I'm happy to arrange that at the buyers expense.

Need one? Probably not. But they can come very handy.

I would get a frequency-adjustable one, something like the Broughton Audio one. Small, simple, and not extremely expensive. I find it very useful to tame unwanted 'boomy' sound you get in some stages/rooms. THAT will be audible. It's surprising how much you can cut while still sounding fat and big. It helps getting a fat but clear bass, I find.

My Broughton is for sale in the BC marketplace if you're tempted :)

  3. Long story but my ABM didnt have an HPF, so Ashdown sent me one (for free!)  They had a spare fully populated board,  from an ABM1000 I think,   so I'm going to get it fitted. That way it's all inside the head and is custom designed for the amp.

Cant beat Ashdown for service! I would stress that although I'm hugely appreciative, I wouldn't expect they'd do it again as I think it was the last spare board in the workshop.

So, still feel the 'need' for an HPF but I've had a change in amp circumstances,  rather than a new amp really!

  4. This is a totally immaculate, unused HPF pedal by Josh Broughton. New amp means I don't need it after all.

It has been discussed at length on BC and talkbass and I can confirm it is a very well made device that is as clean as a whistle.

I recently bought it new and had it shipped to the UK at a total cost of about £120 so if anyone wants one this is brand new and will save you about £25 - £30 quid.

  5. Hi folks,

Selling my Battalion, you probably  know what it is. I think it sounds great but a change of amp means I no longer need it.

Pics to follow but for now, https://www.ehx.com/products/battalion

It is in very clean condition, has only had studio use, and comes with the power supply and original box. The box is a bit tatty (northern vernacular for 'road worn' or 'reliced') but the pedal is very clean.

  6. On the theme of simple, driving  bass playing that makes the song work: this belter!

Award winning but long-winded cinematic short rambles on but the song starts at 1:25. One of my favourite mini 'bass solo's' kicks in just after 3:15  :)

Listen as loud as you can!

Apologies that this is contributing to thread sliding from 'sparse' to 'simple'. There is an important difference I know. Just couldn't resist this one!

    Just remembered this belter!

    loving this thread.

When anyone asks about my favourite bassists, or at least the one that got me started, Lenny Kravitz always comes to mind but I'm often to embarrassed to say so.  The usual bass 'legends' aren't what got me started, or what I listen to. Lenny K is a great shout here @johnny wishbone

  8. Thought I'd share this little moment with you...

Earlier today I pulled into a car park and spotted a large estate car parked awkwardly on the side of the entrance with its hazard warning lights flashing. Does this person need assistance I thought?

A guy was leaning against it scanning the  carpark for  who knows what...

Meanwhile another man was walking toward him with intent. Both nodded as if to say, yes,  I'm your contact.

Was this a drug deal, undercover cops, secret services???? Just as I checked in my rear view mirror I realised, I know this guy. He was half hiding inside the collar of his jacket but there was no mistaking it, it was @thebassdoc!! I knew that face from the good old days of the bass place, but hadn't seen this revered figure  for  a good 20 years.

My mind raced at what was in the boot of that estate, a quiver of expertly set-up basses most likely!!  As my car rolled into the first available bay and I scrambled to get my basschat autograph book out,  I looked back and he was gone. Disappeared back into the bass underworld.

Ha ha, the whole thing felt very cinematic in a non-stalkery, not geeky-at-all kind of way!! Liam Neeson or Matt Damon would be good casting shouts for the badass bassdoc.

This opening scene could then lead to a groovy theme tune, like a bond film,  but better :)

    Apologies to @Thebassdoctorifthisisabitcreepy

  9. Hi folks,

Selling this having bought it recently from Basschat royalty, @Discreet, who built it and created the very informative (and entertaining) build diary linked to below. It is not getting much use  with me after all and, as ever, I'm hoping to free up the cash and space. It is in the same condition it came to me in and I'm asking the same great price; £160 plus postage.

Essentials: 8ohm, 400watt Neo loaded (Eminence 3012HO kappalite). No horn / tweeter. The cab is made to the highest standard from Bill's plans and is 45cm tall, 55cm wide and 45cm deep. It weighs 18kg and is finished in black Tuf-Cab paint and chrome corners.

For those who've not seen them before, these are cabs designed by Bill Fitzmaurice that are extremely efficient and hence very, very loud indeed.  This one doesn't have the tweeters / horns that some Jack12 cabs do. It is loaded with an Eminence Neo Kappalite driver that is suggested in the design plans as the best speaker you can put in these cabs.

I can add pics of it in my possession if that's helpful, but Discreet's post shows the cab in its current condition and also links to the build diary. The only difference is that the courier  who brought it to me managed to dislodge the mesh guard. It was velcro attached at the angled sides and the velcro had come away. I've used velcro tape to re-attach it in a slightly different way but you can either leave it as it is or just take the velcro off and do whatever you want to do with it!

The cab has been gigged (not by me) and does have a few marks that a quick touch up with the TuffCab paint would sort out. It is an easy lift, and fits nicely in the boot with plenty room to spare.

Happy to arrange a courier, but the cost will be added to the £160 asking price.

@discreet has the first shout here - he may just want to buy it back - but if not it's anyones!

    Cheers, Doug
