1.
Are there not any american BCers who can help out? Buy some and send them over to avoid fooking duty etc. I dont think that would be a crime.
You don't avoid the duty though. It goes on the value of the products, not who they were bought or sent from.
 2. Eh... I was quite surprised to see 7 replies to this... now I know Anyway, I'm justing using the drums that Logic has. No fancy plugin unfortunately. I have a fair bit of it tracked already (over a few tracks so mixing will be easier) but it just sounds a bit robotic still.
 3. Oh, this is soo cool! I love the sinister feel of the single. The vocals sound like they are straight from the evil guy of some movie. Love the glitchy feel. Love that the vocals aren't caught up with being ultra polished. I think it's great BUT it is something that I need time to adjust to. It's so out there (not in a bad sense) that i'm utterly stunned by it (in a good way). Going to listen to it more, can't wait to hear more from you guys
 4. Looks like it's made entirely from plywood (even the neck). It's definitely a very cheap copy, probably 80's or earlier. 6 bolt neck seems a little odd. I have an old 80's satellite Les Paul copy that's kind of similar - Cheap materials and parts, cheaply made. Not worth much, but might as well keep it around if it plays alright, or give it to some kid who wants to learn.
 5. I'm creating a drum track in Logic for a cover I want to do. I could use a multi-track I suppose, but where's the fun in that, eh? Anyway, I can get all the parts lined up where they should be, i.e. bass beats, snare, hi-hat, but how do I stop it sounding so... programmed? Is there any way to make it sound more natural and open? I can't seem to get a reverb that sounds nice on it, they sound a bit programmed too (I suppose because they are DURR ). Anyway, Advice is welcome And I may have some more questions further down the line with this one. Thanks
 6.
So anyone else get thumb pain whilst playing technical rifts that require a large left hand stretch? Whats wrong withv my technique, it just aches like a biotch.
I don't play much at the minute, but nope, never had thumb pain in my left hand. Had a muscle cramp at eh bass of the thumb in my right hand before.
 7. I am going to look at and drool over all the pictures on this thread tonight. If i'm not back in an hour, send help!
 8.
As the great Bob Monkhouse said.."When I said I was going to do comedy, everyone laughed at me...They're not laughing now.."
Yes, unfortunately, I've used that one enough times for it to just be completely ironic (and true).
 9.
There must be a way round this. If we bought X string sets between us, would the import duty still be Y? Or what? I'd do a feasibility study, but I don't know what that means and my maths is crap. Duh.
I think to get a decent price, you need somebody to bring them in at a trade price, then have their markup on it. Buying more will only increase the amount of duty paid, and not really reduce the cost of the strings as it's a percentage rate.
 10. If that's the case, why don't they get a UK distributor?
 11.
Well seeing as you ask, same way I knew, by looking at his profile ;-) I've never seen any of his posts on here either, although i have seen them on TB.
I generally don't look at profiles unless i'm sending a PM or something. I'm not really that interested in finding out how long somebody has been a member, but I still think it's great he's here, regardless of how long he has been a member
 12.
Since end of Dec 2009 I believe.
I was talking about me, not Guy... How was I supposed to know he was on here for 4 years? It's not like he has flaunted his famousness anywhere. 30 posts in 4 years, i'm lucky to have seen one I reckon. I'd really like to see Michael McDaid on the forum though.
 13.
This has got to be the longest Hello thread ever But.. Hello
Whilst all the other intro threads have the same dedicated 3 or 4 members welcoming the new members, this one has lots, because it's a well respected and famous musician, who I assume a lot of people on here look up to. Still, It's cool to have such an experienced and well known bassist on the forum.
 14.
For anyone interested, here's a link to a bunch of free VSTs, advice, interviews, etc, all on the subject of mixing - made available by Mike Senior, the author of 'Mixing Secrets for the Small Studio'. Worth a look: http://cambridge-mt....ks.htm#freeware
Cheers! Gonna take a look in a while
 15.
Nope It's an intro thread that reads like I should already know who the geezer is. I'm not psychic..... Having read a bit more of the thread it seems others do know him but I can't work out how they could work that out from the opening post. Meh
Look beside the thread title, where the tag says "Guy Pratt".
 16.
I hear this a lot about the Eagles, and it's something I've never understood. 'Sterile' to me is the shiny, polished stuff that comes out of Nashville. The Eagles canon is just meticulously arranged songs played incredibly well. IMO, of course.
I thought that too. I've never heard them called sterile before. For me, they aren't on the wrong side of country, a bit disco sometimes, and enough rock for me to like them. In fact, I more than like them, I love them.
 17.
Here's my latest video! I felt inspired to do a Beyoncé tune after seeing her live at the O2 Arena on Monday.. Hope you enjoy it!
How do the Jazz 5er play? What do you think of it? I've always liked the idea of a non-coffee table 5
 18.
I wouldn't open with it.
Comedy is something that I would actually like to do, but you have to be quite thick skinned, and i'm just... not.
 19.
I hope this means the mess is cleared up now. On another note, I wonder if Guy, BillyApple and me are the only bassists on here who have done some live stand up? If you think your first gig was sh*t-scary, try stand up comedy
I'm a stand up comedian in my spare time I stand up and everyone laughs... What? I never claimed to be good at it...
 20.
Hi All Just wanted to drop a line to say I do like popping in here and generally have the cockles of my heart warmed by the kind and respectful things most people have to say to and about me, which is why I'm generally glad to answer questions and give advice, (Usually just on what gear for what song for your Floyd tribute band, so, easily done..) By and large we bass players are a lovely lot. it would be ridiculous to expect there not to be folk who don't like me, and I often respect the opinions expressed, (even I don't like me sometimes..)Although, I would say to anyone who thinks that they're being witty by using my surname as an insult against me, you're really not. I think I was well within my rights to kick off at having my actual character questioned to the point of slander though (And by a moderator..Oh the irony....) But onwards and upwards, all water under the bridge. Cheers Guy
Holy hell, is this actually Guy Pratt!? Eh, Mr.Pratt, you may notice that I did not participate in said thread, which is odd, because i'm normally in the middle of any controversy Anyway, that's enough arse kissed for today. Welcome!
 21.
I personally don't get the animosity towards the Eagles. I am a huge fan and hope I can afford to get tickets when they tour here. I will certainly get the DVD.
They are touring the UK? My dad saw them once years ago. If they are touring here, I want tickets!
 22.
(Yeah, yeah.. I know. I couldn't possibly get any uncooler anyway.)
Nope, you've actually gone up in my estimations I saw it advertised beside a video on YouTube, but never thought much of it, but i'll have to get a copy now based on this! My dad will probably like it too, he's been a big Eagles fan since his teens. He's the reason I like them. He always used to listen to them in the car. My parents have great taste in music, and I recently found out that both sides of my family happen to be quite musical. who'd have thought it, looking at me? Seriously though, thanks for the thread! It might make a good gift for my dad for looking after me
 23.
I'm not that scary, come on... only if they piss me off!
Ok ok, I agree with you, don't hit me again Boss, my doctor says if I get any more nervy they'll need to sedate me.
 24. I've made something... I also let Thom Yorke hear it, who proceeded to play it in a cage of blue lights on TV. This is fantastic, though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZl6BRY9IYQ
 25.
That doesn't sound nearly as intimidating...
Yes, but your demeanour more than makes up for it
