1.
Recorded, will watch soon. Not surprised by anything I saw in the ad. That's why I make my parcels as bombproof as I can. The trick as far as I'm concerned is to make sure nothing moves inside the box, all padded out to hell with as much soft stuff as I can pack in without risking bursting the box. Don't skimp on insurance either, and check all the small print for exclusions. But don't be scared of sending stuff. I live in the sticks and need people not to be scared of sending basses otherwise my GAS will cause an explosion I've sent and received probably approaching 25 basses without incident. I'd like to have seen them try to kick my Victory Artist about the depot - they'd break a toe
Agreed! I usually find a box the a couple of inches longer that the item, them pack it either end with polystyrene, then create a layer of paper, or maybe 2 depending on how deep the box is, then set one of those soft plastic sheets inside, and wrap the item up in it, then I fill the rest out with paper. As much as possible, and I try to get the item to sit dead centre in the box, and tape it up well for added security. I live in the sticks too, I can't really afford not to trust couriers. I've had no issues with Parcel Force or Royal Mail for delivering stuff.
 2.
I agree. I am consumed by music. But those who exclude all else are usually the ones making dull music with little or no life. You have to have a life, you have to be an observer of human behaviour, otherwise most of your music will have little relevance to anyone else. I do a lot of stuff and interested in a lot of things, but music is running through it all, even when I'm cooking or fishing.
You could argue that music doesn't need to have relevance to anybody except yourself though. In all likelihood, there is always going to be someone who can relate to your music, but was that one of the things you thought of when writing it? It's not for me. I've written a song about depression before. Plenty of people suffer with depression, in fact, more then plenty, it's really common, but i wasn't writing it for them to relate to, I was writing it for catharsis.
 3.
it cost you all a day of your lives, a day that could have been spent doing something else instead of creating a 3 minute record of a song that only a handful of people will ever watch.
Is it really about how much time it took or how many people will watch it? I think if there's something you want to do, like make a video for your band, then do it. Making videos is fun too, and if you can't take a day to have fun without your motives being questioned, what can you do?
 4.
Oh, I dunno. Flogging his splod I suppose. He doesn't want to roger the old trout because of her constant bloody nagging!
You're not one bit Discreet at all, are you?
 5.
I reckon he just plays a sax CD and is in fact doing something else...
Cleaning his sax? ...
 6.
Brilliant I wonder if my DH is complaining on some bloke forum somewhere about my playing..... I doubt it I particularly loved the electric in the shed for the saxophonist, don't know why, it just amused me
To plug his sax into his electric amplification device!
 7.
Cheers man, I have a friend who really doesn't like Kit's voice. Voices are such personal things, that's why we identify with them so much. I very much appreciate your openness mate, thanks
I wouldn't go as far as hate, but you're right, it's a really subjective thing. Personally, I think John Frusciante is my favourite vocalist of all time. He's at least the best male vocalist (for me), but Kit was never contending for that position anyway Although I think i've heard a song that has this kind of theme (piano, building to a big rock kind of pop song with a solo female vocalist). In fact the similarities are incredible. You've never heard of Katherine Philippa, have you? I think yours has a lot more production value though.
 8.
To be remembered as something other than 'That geezer who went down the pub a bunch'. Music is one of the few things I have a genuine interest in, and when I finally kick the bucket it'd mean a lot if people - even just a couple of my closest friends - remembered the music I've had a hand in as a reflection of me.
Mmm, quite. It's a legacy. Not only that, but there's people that I would happily play the music they like, even if I hate it, because I want to make them happy.
 9.
The world is awash with great music (and bad, but hey ho . . . ) and it has never been easier to access it all. So why do some of us bother to create our own new music? Actually, that not my real question, because I can easily understand the creative urge. My real question is why do some of us spend huge amounts of time and money on recording our original songs, making wonderfully crafted videos, creating elaborate websites and actively promoting our gigs when the vast majority of people will listen politely for the three minutes or so before politely saying 'yeah, very nice' and then carrying on with their lives as if nothing had happened? Three minutes for them, but days, weeks, months of minutely detailed effort for us. Do we do it because we're all aspiring rock stars dreaming of fame and fortune? I doubt it because I reckon the vast majority of musicians are more realistic than that and know, deep down, that it's bloody hard to make a good living out of music! I mention all this because the two mainly-originals bands I play with are often asked if we have a CD, or a website, or a video. We've thought about such things but when it comes to it we can't really be bothered. We basically play for our own enjoyment and would rather spend our time writing new songs than going through the recording process or making a band video. And given that we're not trying to set the music world alight with our unique talent ( ) we're happy to play for free. So, why do so many bands invest huge amounts of time and effort making 'throwaway' recordings and videos?
I think, on some level, a lot of musicians want somebody to look at them and say "You're really good". As egotistical as that sounds, it's what we crave. It makes us feel good, even if we don't consciously acknowledge that we are doing it, even in some small part, for that reason. Of course, playing with friends, especially if you are on the same wavelength, is immense amounts of fun, whether it makes any money or not. So we also do it for the fun, as you've said. I think there are a lot of wannabes, and i'll hold my hands up and say that I probably fit that mould, or at least did fit it pretty well for a while. I found that as I learned more, I wanted to learn more, not for any particular end goal, just to know. I make music because I want to. If I write a song that somebody can relate to, and know that somebody else has had those feelings, and been there, and sees that it's obviously not the end of the world, well that would mean more to me than any money I got from it. Oh yeah, and all the birds and drugs. Can't leave those out.
 10.
In their list of acronyms they state that 'bump' is NOT an acronym! Oh yes it is!
But U Must Play? (One for the husband, in this case?) .
 11.
Just so it's clear, opinions are welcome, positive or negative. I got a bit of a slagging for being honest (although hopefully constructive) about a song posted by a BC member soliciting opinion, but really, it's good to know if you think it's good or sh*t, and why. Thanks again for your very kind comments and support. It means so much to me. When I joined Basschat I was quite in awe of the vibe and expertise on here, and I find it a privilege and an honour to be making some of you happy listening to a band I'm so proud to be a part of. Sorry, I'm on leave for a couple of days, basking in the pleasure of last night's launch gig, been at the Pinot Grigio, and feeling a little proud and loved up xx
It's sh*t. No, you know i'm joking
 12.
Ok, I always say this, sorry for posting this in GD rather than Recording, but not many peeps go there and there are a bunch of lovely fans on here, hence me posting this in GD Our new EP 'Love Songs in Age' is now available on Bandcamp. You can buy downloads only, or buy a limited edition CD (with free downloads) hand painted, signed and numbered by Kitty herself. You can preview all the songs on Bandcamp before buying of course. I really hope you like it, and Kit told me to thank you guys on Basschat for your amazing support! I completely agree, you've been so supportive and your feedback has been so valuable and heartwarming. Love from Kit, Ali, James, Kate, Sam, and me xx Bandcamp link here http://kitrichardson...ve-songs-in-age
Wow! Pretty cool song, I reckon! At the start, I kind of went "I've just decided I don't like her voice" which just threw a spanner in the works, because she's a really good singer, and i'm so unable to decide now whether I like it or not! Great song all the same, despite my inability to make up my mind on Kit's voice! I'll buy a download if I find a few bob
 13.
Been playing for 20 years and hes spent 2 hrs trying to learn Brown Eyed Girl......
To be honest, it's difficult hearing the chords behind all those La's. I did think it odd though... I wouldn't have thought Van Morrison had any songs that any guitarist of 20 years would struggle with at all.
 14.
Notice the OP's name is 'koalasrock'. Rocking doesn't happen quietly.
Rocking - To move gently to and fro or from side to side. A very noisy activity indeed
 15.
Ah, I see he has one of those "electric amps." They can get quite noisy compared to a steam powered one.
I have a pedal-powered one. It's kind of tricky to play a guitar or bass and pedal at the same, but needs must.
'Headphones are your friend husband plays bass, i feel you' Seriously though , they do speak as different language , the abreviations are way over my head
I think DH either means "Dear Husband" or "Dick Head"... I'll not elaborate on what I think DS means...
 16.
There is no sound till I turn the pot at the last 1/8 before max. This happens on both pick ups. The tone control does not make a difference to the sound at all.
This sounds like you have the wrong kind of pots. Maybe not, but I had that problem before. Turns out I had linear pots, and I needed logarithm pots. It sorted it for me, but it could be another problem in your case. Check the wiring against a schematic, because somebody could have changed the pots at one point and it wasn't done right.
 17.
Dr. Meat Ball and the Muthafunkers.
WINNER! I would see that band.
 18. Bloody hell! If you lot don't sort this out RIGHT NOW I'll come and take the bass with me to Northern Ireland. (Did anybody ever get a telling off that sounded like that when they were younger?)
 19. I did it. The new channel is up, and doing well for only being launched for one day! 7 subscribers (I suspect a few are forum members ) For anybody not subscribed, I highly recommend that you do, and like the videos, and leave a comment if you wish. It all helps in pushing it up the search lists and giving it some recognition, which will ultimately mean better reviews. Here's the channel. Just follow the link and click the Subscribe button on the page http://www.youtube.com/user/8ie2nds
 20. Thanks for the comments and likes too, guys. It all helps towards pushing the channel up the search lists and giving it a bit of recognition. Hopefully, I'll also be able to get somebody in to review guitar stuff and drum stuff, so it's not going to be just about bass, or guitar, or whatever. Please do all subscribe (that helps too) and like the videos, and leave a comment, even if it is just "good video" or, "This is a crap review" if you like.
 21.
Good work Milty! I like the concept a lot. The name is great too - made me chuckle. ...in fact that's the only thing I think it needs more of: your sense of humour. Keep 'em coming mate. In the meantime, I've subscribed and 'liked'
Thanks very much Paul Yes, I did think it was a little dry, but it's hard to be factual and humourous in 80 seconds
 22.
A few brief comments from me, your editing makes you jump around a bit and iron the sheet behind you Fair play though lad, good on you for taking the time to do it, I'm sure your reviews will be helpful to people
The sheet is ironed, it's the way I have it up that makes it look not ironed! Hopefully people appreciate them, and there's also the written reviews on the blog!
 23.
??? Not what I was talking about at all Mate I was just pointing out that you didnt show how easy it was to put on and off the neck quickly since this is a common occurance in gigs. The bit about changing the name was a joke because you would have to add 10 seconds to your 80 to show this. Hence the '9t2nds' Geddit? A
Ha, yeah. It's easy, I guarantee! It's incredibly easy, infact. It's so easy to operate that you only need one finger and thumb to open it fully, whereas with loads of other ones, it's a complete test of strength to open it as far as it goes.
 24.
Exellent stuff I do like concise. However one subtle omission. There is no shot of you actually putting the thing on and off the neck. That, in my view, is a fundimental factor when using one. Might be an idea to add a bit in showing that. Then changing the title, link, domain, everything to 9t2nds A
Ha! I can assure you it was all above board! I'm not going to lie for these companies, they pay me nothing, and I get the same whether I think it's good or bad - Nothing (Other than a small amount of money depending on how many people have watched). Guys, please subscribe and spread the word! I would actually like it to make a little bit of money, as I am pretty strapped for cash atm.
 25.
You are destined to be a wealthy man , Milton .
Like the lady without an alcohol license, so she sold water with free alcohol...
