God outside of Northern Ireland? Ridiculous!
God and potato bread outside of NI... They have to be together, like a multi-pack. Buy potato bread, get free Bible and portrait of the ceiling of the Sistine chapel.
That sounds like a life's work milty, I think I'll join you! My grandad used to make the best, so we will stop off in Sydney!
Yay! POTATO BREAD!!!
There ya go Milty, career choice made ! You can become an itinerant missionary travelling the UK preaching about the goodness of potato bread and ranting against all religions Shame theres no room in your heart for pasta, you could have become a Pastafarian minister like me ( I have been touched by his noodly goodness). http://www.venganza.org/ in case anyone is wondering what the hell I'm wittering about.
Lol, that could work. I could travel the world and write a book on where has the best potato bread... I fear I might already know the answer, but further investigation is required
But seriously, how good is potato bread!!!
So good!
Oh man, you're sooo wrong! I don't want to turn this into a religious thread, but I happen to live in the most conservative christian bible belt in Norway, and we have actual evidence of the existence of potato bread outside NI. Just before the weekend, I bought it from my local shop without any special ordering or praying or whatever. So, with an octave down sounding good, and me buying potato bread, I'm sure logic commands there's a god as well. best, bert
Haha!
Haha fair enough! To be honest I can't think of a single application where a LOW low E would actually be useful! And what the hell is potato bread??
Potato bread is what makes the fry! I nearly went mad at a waitress when I ordered a fry in England and it had no potato bread, but then I just felt sorry for you all
Drop tuning doesn't bother me. What bothers me is when people lump all of metal music into one group. It is a massive and many varied creature and to dismiss it as any less than that shows a huge lack of understanding.
Bingo! I like some metal, like Iron maiden, but there's lots I don't like.
No really, it was good man!
It's going on the list of things I refuse to believe, along with God and potato bread outside of Northern Ireland.
Not necessarily true! I tuned my newest Peavey 6er EEADGC for a laugh and it was gut wrenchingly awesome, no flab and plenty of attack! Only a .130 string as well! To be fair though, the 35" scale, neck through, and string through body construction helped a bit.
ew...
Didn't their bass player just die after being in a coma for ages? In terms of good reasons to cover bass territory with your guitar, that is pretty much up there.
He had been in a coma for 10 years I believe.
Stephen Carpenter (Deftones) has gone so low he's actually gone full circle. He started on E standard 6 strings, then Db Standard 6 strings, then Drop C 6 strings, then Ab standard 7 strings, then drop Gb 7 strings, then Gb standard 8 strings, now with the new album he's on F standard and drop E 8 strings. He is actually now just playing bass, but it works for them. Although I should declare I'm a die hard drop tuning fan. I usually stick to D standard/ Drop C and never really go below Drop B, but the timbre of a guitar is completely different to a bass in any tuning, and if the bass drops with the guitar (as it should) you still get a well rounded sound.
You can't drop tune a bass by an octave though.
Couldn't agree more with the detuning of guitars. At the rehearsal rooms, one guy said to the guitarist "they've got a nice marshall 4x12 rig in there, has loads of bass". I said "Why don't you just take up bass & be done with it".
I don't really see the point in drop tuning. If you want low notes and bass, play bass!
Plenty of metal bands now have three bass players. Generally a couple of them haven't graduated into getting a real bass yet and make do with detuning their guitar, and eqing out the middly sound of guitar.
Detuning has to be one of the most annoying things about guitarists, in my opinion. It's like they aren't happy with doing the solos and getting the glory, but they also have to tread on our toes to just rub salt in to the wound. Down-tuned and 7/8/9 string guitars normally sound bloody horrible too. I just bloody HATE the whole idea of it.
Love it Milty! That genuinely made me LOL
Well, at least it's the truth
-
Are you saying that bass doesn't belong in metal, or am I missing something here? TBH, without bass, metal would be high gain guitars and a man screaming.
Oh, good, 'cause i never heard of that, either. No, that is not correct, now that I think about it, there is one band that metalized german folk songs: J.B.O. - that about what you meant?
Perfect! I've just sent it off to my friends, who actually thought they had come up with it off the top of their head. Let's be honest, if you think you've thought of something that hasn't been done, a German or American has probably already done it.
Is that how long it takes these days? How things have moved on......
Probably... Although i've never understood how they can turn a woman in to a man...
-
They do have a huge product range, but I think you have to go somewhere other than Thomann for that.
Ha!
-
I've been told they make me "look intelligent" (an optical illusion)
Surely, an optical illusion is the point of spectacles?
-
He could even be a woman now. It was 6 years ago...
-
Guys, I think whatever this guy was going to buy from them, he's likely either done it or decided against it by now He could even be dead...
I think we all nick bit's and pieces from the music we hear around us. It's very hard and requires a fair bit of talent to be totally original. Having an idol or an influence to look upto is not at all bad in my book, take what you can from them and make it your own. Playing music is wonderful and an ever learning path to the soul ...
Yup, I agree, but my point was, which some people missed I think (not you) was that it's not about having your sound, but sounding like yourself. Playing what you want, in the way that you want, and not being hung up about sounding like this person or that person.
-
It's when you stop worrying about 'my sound' (or anyone else's) and they get on with playing the music.
Yeah, just get on with it. Don't worry about what notes you're playing, they're all the same, right?
-
Wedgees are brilliant aren't they?! I don't understand why they are not more widely available, as far as I know vision express and three other big stores don't sell them?
Presumably, they would rather you buy new glasses rather than something to make your current glasses more wearable.
-
Glasses can look really good. For a while, I wanted the optician to say "You'll need glasses", but what he actually was saying was "You see TOO MUCH!"... Apparently my vision is absolutely perfect, better than 20/20. I suppose I'll just have to get a set of those bold black frames with no lenses in them and be a hipster...
-
It's difficult to headbang with glasses on! Luckily mine aren't essential for anything besides driving and feigning interest in lectures at uni
Ah, you have the glasses with the eyes painted on them so you can sleep in lectures/whilst driving etc?
-
Egg cartons, they'll do the job just as well. Glue a load of them on.
Hi, german bass player wanting to join, if that's okay with you guys... Some facts about me: - first picked up the electric bass in 1987 when I was 15/16 - I like old Fenders (yeah, I know...) and small tube amps - I play in two bands (Rock and Praise&Worship) So much for now. Looking forward to some interesting and inspiring bass chat, Chris.
Hello! Welcome! Can you play us some German folk metal? If you've never heard of that, it's cool, nobody has.
