Yes, but then you've made a very long cable that's coiled up, instead of a slightly long lead that's not coiled up.
 2.
I spent £20 on a "guarenteed for life" American cable some 15 years ago, can't remember any details about it or even where I brought it so couldn't claim anything if it did fail but to be fair 15 years on and it still works perfectly I think I got my monies worth out of it and it did exactly what it said on the tin
Bingo! Who could moan about a £20 lead lasting 15 years? Although, 15 years ago, £20 for a lead was crazy money!
 3.
Every time you play your bass and don't use OBBM's cables, a kitten dies. That is all you need to know about cables.
At least i'm feeding the poor in eastern Asia when I don't use OBBM
 4.
Mr. Nice chap from Lakland replied to say they frequently offer strings to all their UK dealers, but none take them up on it...
Loads of shops I think won't stock things unless there are people coming in asking for them. It's mad, but I suppose they don't want to lose money.
 5.
As per his website, http://www.rock-wire.uk.co.uk Neutrik Right-angle Jack £6.00 Neutrik Straight Jack £6.00 Neutrik Straight SILENT Jack £8.50 Neutrik Right-angle SILENT Jack £10.50 Klotz AC110 Cable, per metre £2.00 available in Black only Work out a price, for example Klotz Right-angle to Straight 3 metres in length £6.00 + £6.00 + (3 x £2.00 = £18.00 Please email for post & packing rates Amazingly good quality leads.
Yes, i've since had a look. I'll maybe buy a couple if and when I have a few spare bob. How many foot would 2 metres be? 6' 4"?
 6.
I've seen less than positive reviews of the guitar flatwounds too, but that's different materials and a different manufacturing process, so I'm quite happy to judge the roundwounds on their own merit. And if they work out for me, they have the bonus of being half a pint cheaper than D'Addarios and not having been shipped across the Atlantic. If they don't work out for me, then I still have a set of D'Addarios in my case pocket...
That's cool. I'm going to try them out some time, but I just like the sound of D'Addarios
What guy and what stories? Colour me interested.
Their flats were "rough as f***" IIRC. I'm sorry, but i'm not going to compromise a source
 7.
Would you really say this down the pub or is it just internet fatigue?
Yes. I don't say things on the internet that I wouldn't say in person. And you might like to know that fatigue means tired. I didn't imply anything about you. I'm not an old lady complaining about tea cakes, or a "church goer" complaining about music, neither of which are very relevant. Since you completely missed what I was saying and decided to go on a word-rampage, what I was saying wasn't that you couldn't understand it, but I get worried when I come across people who can't (Not necessarily anybody in particular), and I hoped you wouldn't be one of those people. You took the wrong thing from it and thought that I was saying that you didn't understand it, which isn't what I was saying. I'm not a racist either, and you would do well to avoid throwing those kind of accusations around. Threads have been deleted recently for as much as that.
 8.
I've never really bonded with Rotosound bass strings either, but I think that's more about their formulation than actual quality. I've used their Superwound phosphor bronze strings on my acoustic guitar for years, they've been as good as any other brand and perfectly consistent from set to set.
I've heard stories about their flats for guitar, and I can definitely trust the guys opinion on strings!
 9.
I suggested we made an hour set list from their long list and concentrated on those. 'Good idea' they said.
How the hell didn't they think of that? I would have imagined that would have been a lot easier any day for a band playing a few gigs a year rather than learning 100 songs that will never get played. And that's when you know what kind of people you are working with and leave.
 10.
Since starbucks and amazon dont pay tax, or have agreed to pay an insultingly pultry percentage of next to nothing, I wouldn't mind getting a little lucky and not paying duty on ONE transaction, costing the UK economy a game changing £15! Just admit it, man. You're no better than Starbucks. <--- TROLL IS OBVIOUS
I think that was a joke, not a troll. In any case, because Starbucks does something it shouldn't doesn't make it alright for you to do it. I've gone through it many times before, and I don't feel like going through it again. It's pretty basic, and I fear when I come across somebody who can't grasp it. Please don't be one of those people.
 11.
Dont you just love the people that call you up asking you to join their band then say its two gigs absolute max a month. Ok you say, if it fits round my other commitments. Oh, no you can not be in another band, you need to totally "commit" to this band. And the other 29 days of the month I can not do anything but sit and wait until your band decide to do a gig ?, thats commitment when the rest wont gig the other 3 weekends. Thats not a band mate, it's someones hobby. Yet they want to "rehearse" once a week ? every week.
Is this hypothetical, or has this actually happened?
 12.
Just admit it, man. You're no better than Starbucks.
As a point - I don't think anybody on this thread has condoned evading paying import tax/duty. People have every right and reason to try and get what they want for as cheap as possible, and there are certain ways that can be done without abandoning any morals, like having a distributor in the UK, as the value of the strings will be what the distributor paid for them until they are in the UK and the value of them comes up to what the distributor sells them at. That means less import duty is paid on each set. That is not illegal, in fact, it's probably promoted.
 13.
what ? and lose all my subtle analogue nuances!!
I reckon in my case, that would be a good thing
 14.
I managed to find time to drop by my local music shop yesterday, who had the Rotosound set, and stuck them on last night. I think I like them so far, and the Bigsby seems stable enough with them. It'll be hard to be sure whether I'll stick with them until I've gigged them though...
I've never used Roto's on guitar before, but anytime I have used Roto's, they don't measure up at all to D'Addario. The tension shouldn't increase that much, so long as the increments between strings are even, because although you have a heavier bottom, you also have a lighter top, but you might need to tweak your setup a bit after putting them on.
 15.
OBBM, as Discreet stated. At band volume I don`t think I would be able to tell the difference, but at home practice levels, the difference between my OBBM leads and Planet Waves leads can be heard. It`s almost as if you`ve suddenly put new strings on when swapping to the OBBM ones, or upped bass/treble and dropped mids a bit. And they`re not expensive either.
Really!? I'll need to get one and try it out. Maybe I'll review it Any ideas on price?
 16.
Glad you think so and cheers for the kind words :-) I had another idea for when the relay comes to an end, but it'd be a logistical nightmare...a meet up and photo of everyone that's participated. Can't see that working though :-p
It would be really difficult! But, what you could do if you are good with photoshop, you could just use a background, and get everyone to take a picture (maybe against a green screen) and then edit it together
 17.
Hi, I play a G&L 2500 through an LM III and a Barefaced ST12T. With a TC Electronics Polytune between amp and bass. My question is does a cable make much difference to the sound your hearing, Is it worth spending that little bit extra. How long should a cable be, in otherwords does length make a difference. There are so many on the market which do you use.? Jonathan
Yup, they make a difference. My teacher always said a cheap lead is like drinking coke through a dirty straw. The length matters because resistance is relative to length of the cable, so a longer cable will give you greater loss of voltage. Although the quality of the materials in lead itself will dictate the resistance of it. Overall, I reckon it's better to spend a bit extra on a good lead than a cheap one. Here's a little review of the Planet Waves Circuit Breaker -
 18.
Genuinely pleased with how this is going, it looks like the Relay is only just getting started in its quest for awesomeness
It's not on a quest for awesomeness, it already had plenty to start off Jim too, it's a pretty awesome thing to donate a bass to, and organise this. Good on you, Mr Ryan!
 19.
agnostic music-makers using Reason and Logic.
Haha! Promptly Facebooked
yeah... I was just trying to convince Milty that he can do plenty with Logic without the need to worry about audio interfaces, mics, etc. I don't use it myself (I've tinkered with it), but there's an old joke about agnostic music-makers using Reason and Logic. Yeah, terrible pun I know.
Yeah, i'm getting to grips with the midi functions, not sure I would be competent enough yet though to make a full composition in it yet though. I'm making a drum track in it (which you know) for a cover i'm going to do. I still have to complete the mix comp too. I could tell you i'll enter next months, but that likely won't hold much weight. (In reality, i'm the biggest procrastinator you've ever seen)
 20.
No worries mate! Good to hear you've found a solution. Be sure to share the track here once you're finished with it
I definitely will, but it could be a week or 2!
 21. Cheers Paul I'm trying to recreate an already existing beat as best I can, I doubt it would be in a beat-library. And at the unusual speed of 123bpm... The "humanise" thing seems to be working. It alters the volume and spacing (or placement) of the sounds to give it some human dynamics.
 22.
Hey guys, can't see it mentionned before - The relay's made it into this month's Bass Guitar Magazine! Don't get too excited, it's only a tiny little piece, but hopefully will draw a few more peeps in!
I think it was mentioned somewhere, maybe not on this thread. Still, it's great! If it's made in to a bit of a spectacle, it should draw crowds better. When I launched my new YouTube reviews channel, I just made a short video that was vague enough to get people interested. There should be some kind of promotional video on YouTube for this. I'd be happy to make one if you want, but i'd need some pictures or video footage. Then everyone can link it to their Facebooks and Twitters with the info on their upcoming gigs.
 23.
Just wondering if any of the contributors to this thread (those wondering how to avoid import tax) were outraged with Starbucks, Amazon etc. for their tax avoidance antics.
I'm not trying to help anybody avoid tax, I was just wondering if there was a cheaper way to get the same product, which is why I wondered about them have a UK distributor.
 24.
And annoyingly it seems to be completely random whether you get charged or not! How does that work? Do they only check a certain number of packages?
Dunno. I think there are different limits and rates depending on what you have bought. If it's under £14 (I think) you don't pay duty, but over that, there are different rates for different things.
