1.
Sounds awesome! I'd have gone for the LEDs though. I'm not sure I'd use them in public but I absolutely love practicing in a darkened room with them on! (ooer!)
Have you gigged the bass yet?
 2. Rosanna by Toto popped up on spotify - I ended up listening to the whole album. Not really my thing and some tracks are a bit cheesy but there's some seriously good playing on there - especially some of the bass playing.
 3.
Hi guys just found out that i was nearly scammed by this advert on gumtree http://www.gumtree.c...rs-3/1002227910 the price was a little too good to be true anyway however i decided to pursue it a bit further to see where it lead the seller claimed that "unfortunately i've been called into work for the rest of this week however i can send them via courier free from work" so i agreed as no money had changed hands yet i then got a nice official looking email from parcelforce worldwide with a tracking number and asking me to put £280 on a ukash voucher so that the courier driver could make the transfer of funds once i had recieved the goods at this point i was very sceptical and so i called parcel force to run the tracking number by them and was told for definate at this point it was a scam what they do is take the voucher numbers from the confirmation email you send them and redeem the money and you never see your items this ones new to me so i thought a heads up was in order
My wife works on a fraud helpline - apparently this is quite a common occurrence. Fraudsters target Gumtree/Ebay/Autotrader etc - basically anywhere that items can be bought or sold. UKash can only be redeemed on specific sites that have registered with UKash. The best thing to do is to advise the sites (Gumtree etc) about the advert being fraudulent and then call Action Fraud on 0300 2342040 or look on the website... www.actionfraud.police.uk ... they'll take a report so all the data can be collated and sent to the relevant authority (they can't help you get money back though). Just give them as much detail as you can - eg reference numbers for the advert etc.
 4.
Walnut 5 string bolt-on? I approve!
Damn! That looks GOOD!!! Now I really can't wait until it arrives!
 5.
I have found reasoning rarely works on the drunk. Direct action can land you in trouble too! Leave it to the security / bar staff.
Totally agree
 6.
That was Nigel Clutterbuck? Ah, I see now- it's all starting to make sense. My memories of the 80s are a bit hazy nowadays, but come to think of it, I think he was called Nigel. He looked a lot younger in those days, but then again so did I.
Me too - I even had hair then
 7.
Wasn't that the lad ( who used to be in Dare) who used to work in the bass department in ABC on Oxford Road? I can't remember his name, but he'd usually be slapping away like a good 'un on one of the basses whenever I went in there. He always seemed like a nice chap, anyway.
You mean Nigel Clutterbuck (I think that was his surname anyway)? He replaced the guy I knew who was the original bassist - I think his name was Martin - it was a long time ago **just remembered ... he was called Shelly** It was Nige who worked in A1 in the Bass department - a top bloke and hell of a bass player - although I think he got a bit of a slagging off on one of the threads on here for over-doing the bass "fireworks" at some music show.
 8.
18-20 weeks? Wow, Rob use to have a 12 week order time, he must be doing great business these days. I've got a lefty S2 thru-neck, 4 string finished in black, black hardware and ivory dots on the fingerboard. I love mine and I know that you will love yours, they are incredible instuments. How much will it set you back?
That's what I thought when I was told I had to wait that long - I nearly spat out my coffee!!! There must be some sort of status renaissance going on I've always loved the sound of them - I saw Go West live in the 80's (I know - very cheesy ) and the session player they had was playing one and I thought it was the best sounding bass I'd ever heard. Around about the same time I got to borrow a 4 string version with a Walnut body off a the bass player who was in Dare at the time. I didn't want to hand it back lol! It's setting me back just over £1800.
 9. What's your opinion on your SR505? I love mine - it's so versatile and it's got the most comfortable neck of any bass I've played so far
 10.
Personally I'd laugh someone out of the band if they suggested a band uniform.
I think it depends on what you're playing and the audience expectation. To be honest, if I paid the £600 plus a band I know charges for weddings and they turned up in tatty old t-shirts, jeans and trainers, I'd be wondering just how committed they were to making sure the event went well and thus how good they were. It's as much about perception as musical skills when someone is paying you a lot of money for their special occasion.
 11.
Great stuff. Thru-neck, or bolt on? What spec, woods, etc?
Its a figured Walnut body with a bolt-on neck (I couldn't quite afford the thru-neck ) - I've gone for the 16.5mm string spacing option. No LED's though - I'm not good enough to draw that much attention I don't know where I'm going to find the patience to wait 18-20 weeks for delivery though - I'm already desperate to get my hands on it
 12.
Lovely bass, look after her !
I agree - it's a gorgeous looking bass I ordered myself an S2 5 string headless yesterday - I can't wait to get it!
 13. IMO you did the right thing - best of luck putting a new band together.
 14. Cheers for the offer However, we've literally just had an email from the events officer for the venue saying they've double booked and so we've been dropped So it appears it'll be another year of watching Jools Holland's bl**dy hootenanny!!!
 15.
..... If you were in Leeds/Bradford - I'd have lent you one of mine!
Cheers! I think I may have to try and raise some funds for a spare bass though.
 16.
in my experience you're likely to need a spare car rather than spare bass gear.
I never thought of that - my cars sh*t too! Should I rent a spare car then?
 17.
+1 Chillaxe dude. Your bass won't melt or explode on stage. I can 99.9% guarantee it.
18.
You guys must have really impressed them! I understand that, best to have peace of mind than to worry about it I guess! I've not heard of any shops that rent out instruments, though it can't hurt to ask! Are there any nearby bass playing friends you could ask? Get them to come along to the gig and buy them a couple of pints as payment maybe
Bearing in mind the band consists of a drummer and rhythm guitarist who had never gigged before and I hadn't played a gig since 2001 - I was surprised we were getting good feedback so quickly. Maybe we're better than I thought - or perhaps the venue's booker is easy to please! Unfortunately, the bassplayers I know all play 4 string, and seeing as I've not played a 4 string for 10 years or more I'd be a little nervous about switching back at short notice. Thinking about it - I've never had a bass fail on me at a gig before so maybe I'm just being over cautious.
 19.
http://www.johnnyroa....co.uk/about-us Ox ford Rd., just along from the BBC. "The department also features a comprehensive equipment hire service, serving the needs of touring bands and smaller gigs throughout the city."
Cheers - I've not been in Johnny Roadhouse for years - I might have to pop in and have another look around
 20.
Awesome to hear you've been offered a New Year gig! I doubt your Ibanez will let you down mate, just make sure to put a fresh battery in it before the gig!
We've only done 3 gigs so far, so I was amazed they thought we were good enough to ask us to do it! I have to admit it's been a brilliant bass to play and I've not had a single problem with it so far but it's the kind of gig that could lead to quite a few more if it goes well, so I'd rather not take any chances.
 21. The band I'm in have been offered a New years Eve Gig. If I have any problems with my amp or cabs, I can find a workaround (e.g. going through the PA etc) but I have the one bass guitar, so if that goes down for any reason I'm screwed. Does anyone know of anywhere in Manchester that rents out decent instruments?
