1.
lol practice on sunday... but the drummer can't make it so he's sending the drum tracks from the records mixed into the tracks we play along to! I decided to go without the tweeter. Didn't want the extra cost or weight, and I don't do any slap so I don't really need the ultra highs. Tweeterless seems to go more than high enough, and if I ever do wanna slap I just push the 'bright' button on my amp and it gives you plenty of high end.
Better than sitting at home with a drum machine (which can be fun but you know...). Tweeters are definitely not essential for most people. They might be nice - I may look at a midget T after the compact... we'll see.
 2.
The fan in my GK is annoying, has anyone replaced the fan in the MB Fusion?
Interesting idea... Is it really REALLY loud? I'd wait till the warranty period was over till I modded one - but I guess lots of cooling air is the price of 3 full voltage preamp tubes. Sucks that the fan is noisy though. Maybe the only answer is to turn it up!
 3.
Wipe down the strings? Nah, you've lost me there. I used to to put my '62 Jazz in a black bin bag if it was raining, it never saw a hard case or gig bag the whole time I owned it and if it wasn't being played it was leaning up in some corner, not on a stand. I take more care of my basses now but I've never worried about whether the case is upright or flat. I've some flat under the bed, some standing up in cupboards.
LOL at least she had something to keep the damp off. As long as it's you alone moving and storing the bass you might get away with that!
 4.
The thing is, I had it advertised for sale at £400 for months both on here & locally when it was working properly & nobody bought it, even though loads of people said what a bargain it was. I really don't see the point in throwing more money at it if I'm going to be taking a kicking on it price-wise anyway. The guy I used for the repair obviously wasn't any good, I don't drive so getting it anywhere is a logistical nightmare & another repair bil when I'm probably only going to get £200 for it fully working just seems pointless. Somebody contacted me through Gumtree when I first advertised it & offered me £250 for it; I thought he was a cheeky bastard at the time but I wish to god I'd sold it to him now. I hate amps anyway - I view them as nothing more than a necessary evil & have no interest in them whatsoever. The thought of having to go through all the hassle of choosing & buying another one is doing my head in.
That kinda sucks. It is hard to sell used gear for a good price (for the seller) these days. Some stuff won't even get 50% after it leaves the wrapper (like cheap pedals). Don't stress it, whatever you choose. You'll be able to find something to play through - although a great reliable rig will rarely come cheap. Better than nothing but not what you need.
 5.
Nice one man! it's a great rig! It's so annoying I'm trying to arrange a band practice so I can actually try it out loud, nobody is replying!! argghh!
Keep at them - offer them punch and pie. More people will come if you offer them punch and pie. Or cookies.
 6.
Not worrysome perhaps, but that's not the purpose of a fan. Passive sinking keeps component temperatures down to a given differential above ambient. Fans can keep that differential smaller. The cooler components run the longer they last. And if you can hear the fan over your playing you're not playing loud enough.
This^^^^ For a piece of studio equipment a very quiet variable speed fan might be an option, along with heatsinking. For a 500W + amp? variable speed that's not extremely loud will probably do just fine. How low are you going to be playing. For a practice combo a loud fan would (haha) blow
 7.
I'd take it back to him, having made sure its nothing else in your setup that's causing the static noise. Its your call, but you won't get much for it if its not working, even if you want to see it gone I'd get it fixed first then sell it as working - you'll get a lot more towards a replacement Ashdown or whatever you decide to get!
+1. You'll get some weak offers on an amp with issues. Most people would suspect it might be beyond economic repair - and the person to ask is a good tech. Hopefully it's a small fix. You'd probably be able to get a reasonable chunk of your money back then.
 8. Try what you can - look at your budget and your goals... what's that about matamp??? You can go for some supposedly amazing gear if your budget will allow (I wouldn't know - mine doesn't). Look into what your main desires are? Would you like a rack? an awesome pre and a killer power amp could be the ultimate for some. definitely as flexible and adaptable as you could want... or like you were thinking - an all tube monster. Depends what you want . All I know is this thread (& matamp (esp. heads)) give me GAS.
 9. Seriously guys... this might remind you of a bass but it's obviously someone's idea of a novelty custom build. You call that a bass? That's not a bass. This is a bass:
 10.
I have a compact but no midget. I've been told 'hopefully by the end of next week' which would make it a definite 11 weeks for the compact and estimated 12-13 for the midget.
Good to know. I won't break out the champagne just yet
 11. 7 gone... This isn't getting easier!.
 12.
Hi Carl you'll find a lot of Barefaced fans on this forum. Personally never tried them. Any decent speaker/cab should be good for any style of music IMO. See you around Jerry
This - If you want a challenge - you could look at BFM or GreenBoy designs... http://billfitzmaurice.com/ & http://billfitzmaurice.info/forum/ http://greenboy.us/fEARful/ They have fans and builders all over the world... ok mainly the USA AFAIK but you get the Idea. Barefaced are special too - and pretty much as light as possible.
 13.
You could also look at Barefaced Midget, it's a 1x12 like the MiBass, and I reckon it would be plenty loud enough for that amp. cheaper than the Compact too... The Barefaced stuff is in another league.
I've heard the midget is amazing - needs a little more lows in the EQ to be as deep as a compact... but it's tiny, light enough to juggle, and loud enough on it's own for some people in not-so-quiet applications. Cool stuff, and a totally different league than a standard 112 (assuming the MiBass is one of them).
 14.
Welcome to the club JohnnyC looks sweet! Its worth the wait Plunger.
I'll bet - I'll let everybody know if it is in a while... ....silver grille FTW!
 15.
i usually buy rs66 swing bass sets but couple of weeks ago out of economic necessity i got a set of the roto's for half the price of the swingbass rough as a badgers thingy! think i'll wait and stump up the cost of the swing bass in future - buying online is fine but when you have a great music shop in town i prefer taking my custom there and supporting them so the choice is limited to ernie balls or rotosound lol
If you keep it local for some stuff - there's a better chance they'll be there should you need them. Not at 11.35pm when you need them but they might be faster than a courier.
 16.
i play that as a DJ pretty regularly seems to go down pretty well? strange how that works sometimes, i've found songs which go down really well when a band play them bomb when you stick them in a DJ set and vice versa
I'd chalk it up to the band 'feeling it' or not, the crowd 'feeling it' (or not) and maybe even the time it's played and the venue (an intimate venue plays different to a stadium).
 17.
We do a version of that Gotye thing which is very well crafted, and people (OK, girls) sing along, but it's dancefloor death.
It's hardly superstition in the booty shakin' groove department though is it? Kind of a slow one. Good song, a bit overplayed though on the radio though.
 18.
Really? That's usually a floor filler for us.
I've seen DJ's and bands get very good feedback from that one. It just oozes sexy funk all over the place.
 19. WOOOOelcome. Sounds like you got it all figured out LOL. Careful with switching drivers, sometimes the cab and drivers won't have the best match, especially if you don't check the tuning. Some good theory and info at BFM: http://billfitzmaurice.com/ That's not a rig to be sneezed at as-is. You could do some damage. Let us know how it goes - and enjoy yourself.
 20.
Many years ago I was persuaded to go to some "singles night" in a local community centre. When I got in there it was obvious why all these people were singles. Anyway there was a disco and the bloke was playing a lot of soul and funk, nobody was dancing except some lass that for obvious reasons nobody else wanted to dance with. He put on some Status Quo so she sat down and a few lads including me got up for the thumbs in the belt stuff. He then found something similar, as at least he'd got a handful of people on the floor, and one or two more from round the edge came to join in. So then the DJ puts on more soul! We go to sit down, when the next record is another of the same, we sup up and make our exit. I never went to another one of those ...
Sounds a bit sh*te.... What I'd love to do if I was DJ'ing a night would be get a mashup between Chris de bleeuch and Slayer going.... maybe ZZ top and Enya too. If that's not hit or miss I don't know what is. Want to empty a dancefloor? play nothing but the first 30 seconds of a whole bunch of classic 'feel good' hits (like bohemian rhapsody, and ace of spades etc.) for 20 minutes
 21.
Fair enough
It's completely up to you - if there's interest in an endorsement, I think you'd be better to check their cabs with a streamliner - ask about the uber ones too - then you could walk away with all the info. It'd be a real sickener to find out you really liked the other gear later on. If it's too much time and you love your rig - rock on. If it's someone else's time it can't hurt to explore a little more...
 22. +1 on the dynamics issue - if you play light you can get a huge boost in harshness and volume just buy digging in. if you play flat out all the time all you can do is soften up. I heard Harris played fairly light - but like Geezer Butler he has the action just right (i.e. low) so he can use fret clank to 'cut'... If you hear a Maiden bass track solo'd you'd have to suspect that was the case.
 23. Yeah - I got a 'surprise' to tide me over. This: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/178790-sold/ Should have it in a few days. Not a hope my combo will do the low B justice but I could use a 5er. And a compact.
 24. AHHHHHHHHHHH! Sorry about that, had to get it out... I see from the sig that's a Traynor all tube amp. 300W... is it loud? I'm glad I ordered the Silver grille... but not happy with waiting. To be fair I still have a Week left till the estimate is off so I can't complain. Still sucks. Can't wait!!!!
 25.
Can't get the LB unfortunately. New stuff only. Thinking the VS212 might be the way to go. Really fancy a Mi12 but is it powerful enough to gig or would I need the VS too?
Depends on venue and stage volume, PA support if available. I'd look at two 112's before a 212 if it were ashdown - their cabs are like most... heavy on the flat, and very heavy negotiating stairs. If 2 112's isn't enough then 2 210's might be... failing that 2 115's is slightly more [s]sensitivity[/s] sensitive (i.e. louder) typically. only after that would I look at a new 212 - or 410 or 610 or 810 or 215. They aren't practical enough for me ATM. YMMV of course.
