1. It'll be difficult to see the difference if the relief in the neck has changed. I haven't been able to find Gibson/Epiphone's spec for it, but roughly relief should be around 0.014" (3.5mm) at the 7th fret. Hold the string at the 1st and last frets.
2. Try the Guitar Electronics website. There's loads of wiring diagrams on there including some for 3 pickups.
3. Geez, it's been such a busy week with setups I forgot to post. Shame on me. I haven't even had time to play with the new "thing" either! Been great fun reading through this though Jaco had to make an appearance at some stage! Next pic. There has been a correct answer already though...
4. No problem if you want it done. Just let me know I've got a thread running in Affiliates Market (link in sig) for the setup stuff. After a busy week the decks are clear.
5. I found a spec for a Warmoth when I was clearing some stuff in the house 5 string jazz, lacewood top, 24 frets, pau ferro board. Lovely. Pickup-wise I'd go for some custom Kent Armstrongs (by Aaron). I have his pickups in my Sei and ACG and they're great. Wouldn't switch 'em for anything.
6. Quite like that wee bass
7. Those Squiers are really good basses. Definitely worth modding. Changing the nut can make such a difference to the sound. Tusq or bone has got to be better than plastic! Go for an unslotted blank if you can for a better fit and control over the string spacing.
8. This is probably the best musical instrument bargain I've ever had. Hence this thread This is something that I really wanted to try and get hold of by they're just way too expensive to buy. I've never actually played one or seen someone playing one live, so shelling out a load of cash would just be plain silly. So here's the case with said instrument inside. It's 90cm x 33cm x 14cm and weighs 19kg (42lbs) (Merello you know what it is already so don't jump in). Any guesses. I'll reveal more pics as we go...
9. Has to be the tidiest 1 string bass I've ever seen.

That's another great creation Mr Ou7shined
11. Where is the buzz coming from. It is more noticeable at the nut end or the bridge end of the fingerboard?
12. For a preamp, have a look at the ACG pre at the AC Guitars website. It's a heckuva piece of kit I don't know whether the pickups could be the problem, hopefully some LX5 owners will chime in on that one. I've had a problem with pre's before and changing the pickup rather than the pre was the problem. It was a darn sight cheaper too.
13. Inspect the string closely and make sure that it's not unwinding itself at the bridge or the tuner. If you don't have anything to measure the string and there's nothing obviously wrong with it, I think it's worth taking it back to the shop and getting some advice on it. They should be able to help you with no questions asked. A floppy string might be to do with the gauge, but if it's brand new then you shouldn't have a problem. The gauge would have to be really wrong to make such a difference.
14. OK. Progress is slow but at times life gets in the way. I've had the headstock has sanded and sealed for a couple of weeks. Today it received several thin coats of gloss white. I'll let that dry for a couple of days, sand it back and see where to go from there. If it seems OK, I'll put the new decal on and spray a couple of light coats of clear lacquer to seal it. The body has just got its fourth and last coat of sealer. Tomorrow I'll do a few light coats of white paint and leave that for a couple of days. If that works out fine then I can put the material top on.
15. Axes R Us will have the electronic parts you need. Their prices pretty darn good and their service is excellent.
16. If you can, run the bottom of the bridge over a file of some sort. There might be some burrs on the bottom from manufacturing and it takes just a minute or so to get things smooth.
17. That's if they're in the right place. Fretted basses always have the side dots in-between the frets and, ideally for fretless, you need the side dots directly over where the fret should be.
18. Always loosen a truss rod first. Left to loosen, right to tighten. I'd say that if you could measure the relief, then that helps to know how your adjustments are going. As Ou7shined said, if you loosen by small steps (1/8th turn) you should see this measurement gradually decreasing. Here's the link to the Fender Bass adjustment guide. The directions there will help you out.
19. If you've got the foam right then you don't need the springs. The foam should spring back as you loosen the screw. I had the same problem when I set up Geo-bass's Aerodyne. Here you can see the compressed foam under the pickups and the new, lighter foam which went underneath. I'd repaired a Dano guitar who's pickups weren't adjustable at all and kept the extra foam handy. Just look for foam with a good bounce to it. If it's too heavy it compresses over time and that's what'd happened in this case. I just went along the cleaning products aisle in Tesco and picked out some sponges which looked liked they'd work.
20. Jon Shuker de-fretted and ramped my Conklin for me. Great job and the price was pretty good as well. Thoroughly recommended. I sent the bass to Jon and picked it up a couple of weeks later. I played violin for 10 years and I feel that gives me a definite advantage when it comes to double bass or fretless bass. If I could have afforded it I would have had the whole fingerboard swapped for a clean one without lines. Jon did a smashing job of making them as unnoticeable as possible
21.
BCer 7string has a one string bass...
....and here it is (apologies for the iffy pics). It's called the "Kinderbasje" or "Child's Play" bass and it's made by Bas at Bas Extravaganza. A one-off, it was made from left-over pieces from other basss that had been built. He then got his children to paint it. It plays and sounds great
22. The Albert Lee MM guitar always looked a bit strange. The bass version is bigger and it still looks a bit strange
23. This was the first one I've played and I was really impressed by it. The guy paid £130 + £20 for the setup and then however much he paid for a set of strings. At £130 it looked a bit rich, but now at £150 it looks like a great buy. The owner says that it's a lot louder than his other bass (a Carlsbro P-style bass and I finished the setup of that on Monday).
24. Your bass certainly isn't going to be mistaken for someone else's. That's going to be a great bass!
25. Those '51 RI's are great bass and yours looks very cool with that new pickguard. The thumbrest should be on the other side of the strings though
