  1. No sparks haha!! Just farty noises and I took all bottom end out to limp to the end of the gig! Guitarist was laughing though 😂
  2. The stuff was 2 months old by the way just when you mention how long stuff lasts or doesn't! Didn't sound distressed at all but yeah in the heat of the mix maybe its just harder to detect that. My immediate conclusion is that it definitely WAS something I've done in error so no offence taken lol I can operate a bass guitar but less skilled in the tech areas of heads and cabs as you can all tell, my worry is that the 500/600w head I have now is powering 2 400w 8 ohm cabs and when you mention having more 'cab' - i still have more head power which leaves me open to over running at this point
  3. There's a great pinned topic on impedance etc already but its still hard to grasp - I had a GK MBE410 800w 4ohm cab with a GK MB800 800w head and by running the head master volume and gain just above 12 o'clock a speaker blew in the cab. If both are 800w and cab is 4ohms I don't see how it blew when I consider that the volume and gain both went to about 5pm on the dial! I was nowhere near topping it out to my mind. I'm now using markbass 151 traveler and 102 traveler with tube 500 (actually it says 600w on back instead of 500w though which is less common?!) and its a much bigger sound and I'm very happy with it, but how do I know if I'm pushing cabs too hard to the point that they blow and avoid a repeat?! The GK stuff didnt sounded strained then boof, night ruined!
  4. Bought a bass from Martyn last week and it was a very smooth and easy transaction - excellent bass too :-)
  5. Hi clarky - pretty sure it was mr who sold you it... The original was the one given as a spare to preserve it, installed the replacement one rather than play the original into the ground! Didn't sound much different which was great, if anything a bit clearer!
  6. That does look cool! Sounding good there too! Yeah, permission may be important 😂
  7. Haha!! Maybe he'd trade 'vibey' for 'dry' by sticking to indoor locations!! Nice looking place though for sure, I'll pass it on to the others, they're all really into it etc, I'm happy just to rock up and play wherever! 👍
  8. Anyone local know of anywhere quite vintage in look we could use? Maybe you've done something yourself somewhere and could recommend it? Even away from he vintage look, just 'vibey' as our drummer would put it!
  9. A friend has a son who's looking to study medicine and he's been told that preferably he will be able to play an instrument in order to demonstrate he's got the dexterity needed - basically lots of people will have the traditional academic grades needed so this is a way to help the powers that be decide who should get places. I didn't really get into music at school, only started bass at 28 out of nowhere and I still can't figure out if id been pushed early on would I have taken to it then or was I just not ready?
  10. First two albums were fantastic, less so with The Garden I thought and onwards. Their early material and Air's better stuff is brilliant, love the chill out sound, very cool basslines too! Saw them in Glasgow after When it falls came out I think, superb
  11. Playing a pub gig the other week and was going well until The man who can't be moved by the script - easy song but when I came in it sounded miles off, little looks between me the guitarist and the drummer - definitely me where it's going wrong - mouthing to the guitarist 'is it Bb?!' And he just shrugs like he doesn't know, I just stop playing and go down to tune while they play on thinking I must have had my tuning go miles out, back up, still sounds way off, I just chuck it and stand there while they finish the song - then the guitarist says at the end, 'sorry mate, I put the capo on the wrong fret' but all the audience thinks is 'bass player fair cocked that up!' 😒

    SOLD

Hi I'd like to buy it mate but system won't let me PM - can you send me one for me to reply to?! Happy to post to glasgow?
  13. I'm in clydebank, use shadow sound here and like them, find myself in the likes of Berkeley and like everyone says they're great, good space and gear. For first time I've got work needing done on a bass and it's with jimmy Egypt now - selling my aria sb1000 and the guy very fairly picked up on the nut needing reset and a small lacquer crack on the rear but from what I've read from lots of others I'm sure they'll do a great job! Might get a wee set up for my jazz if the sale goes through ok ;-)
  14. This bass looks absolutely spectacular to me - that headstock alone is downright erotic!! 😍😍
  15. Girls on film is a great bassline - I'm a fan of them, a hidden gem for the bass is Last chance on the stairway off the Rio album!
  16. Hi again Andy! :-) Nice looking guitars the yamahas mate - aria SB1000 in my sights so fund raising here lol All the best, Gary
