backline i take to mean as cabs + drums shells. We've had confusion before so if we're lending gear we specify cabs + drum shells ONLY. We never lend out our breakables and expect other bands to bring theirs. Unless we've arranged it in advance. I'll let people use my head if i know them and they've contacted me about it beforehand. We always use our own breakables. Usually our full backline. speak to whoevers gear you use before and after you play, make sure its alright and thank them, thank them onstage too and especially if you're supporting, its a good chance to build up some excitement about the next band. Any touring band that lends me a cab can come sleep on my floor. I had bands ask to use my head while we were touring and they just got a straight up no. but i lent my cab out nearly every night.
Seriously mate it's all good. How awesome was that gig last night? every band was on top form, you guy sounded great I hope we kept the level up, always hard to tell when you're on stage.
It was the most amazing gig ive been to for a long time. Was disappointed with the tone from that ampeg 810 though.

We have fights at nearly half our gigs i reckon... there was one at a gig in Chatham, we were playing at this 2 tone/ rocksteady/ ska club, we got halfway through the first song, the whole place was dancing and it was packed. All of a sudden there was a mad rush and punches being thrown everywhere. We always stop playing if theres a fight during our set, thats not what gigs are about.. The guy who instigated came up and apologised to us before we started again, his story was basically this... "Sorry about that lads, this bloke behind me poured his pint down my back.. so i said "don't pour your pint down my back" and he said "f*ck off" So i hit him. and if he comes back in here again he wont have a face left to tell the tale with." There was another one the other week where the whole pub turned in to a massive pit, one guy started taking it too far and he got picked up thrown out by 4 men and told not to come back if he wanted to keep his teeth. One a few weeks ago we were playing in this bar where everyone had to walk across the stage to get to the toilet/ smoking area... we were near the end of the set and we saw 3 guys start attacking a bloke as he came out of the toilet. We all stopped playing and grabbed them all and dragged them outside, the guy who was being attacked, we kept inside... carried on playing when it'd all calmed down. The only fight we've had involving the band was one of our earlier gigs, we were packing up our gear when a guy comes flying out of the toilets, face covered in blood. our trombone player comes running out after him and laying in to him... somebody ran over to try and break it up and one of our friends ran across the stage, jumped and headbutted the guy who was trying to break it up. The guy being beaten up was being.. racist, lets say. its a long story. but our trombone player had to run home covered in blood before the police turned up. The guy he attacked had a broken nose, a broken jaw, 3 broken ribs, broken fingers and was pouring blood... it wasn't pretty.

I must say these replies are interesting me no end. I know how frustrating it is not being in a band when you want to be... Thinking about it, i'd happily play music i didn't like, as long as i was playing bass. It's more the instrument i enjoy than the songs a lot of the time.
-
After reading some of the topics and some of the posts on here... I've noticed there's a lot of people playing bass for a lot of different reasons. Some as a hobby, some as a profession, some playing every night and some once a year. My question is, do you love what you do, or would you rather be doing something different? So whatever you're role in the bass world, is it what you want it to be? Are you playing in a covers band for money when you want to be playing in an originals band for free? Are you playing in your bedroom when you'd rather be up on stage playing the classics? Are you a session player who wants something permanent and reliable? And if you ARE doing what you want to be doing, would you do anything to make it better? Myself, i only play in bands playing original music... and only play music i love to play, however, it'd be nice to play in a function band to make some money on the side. Apart from that all i could ask for is more gigs, more tours and the support of a decent label... but that'll come. So, your turn now ive babbled enough I started a poll, changed my mind and now i can't get rid of it, so let's ignore that one please

My VMJ is pretty pimped, i bought it from Boabski and admittedly he'd already done most of the mods. Its the 4 string jazz in natural, heres a list of mods: black tuning pegs black string tree black gotoh bridge black control plate black plastic knobs black strap buttons lots of black... im planning on replacing the standard jazz neck with a DR parts maple precision neck. The neck has no decal so i'll be sticking a fender one on there and hunting down a fender neck plate to replace the squire. I've also done a neck shim... I'm not gona touch the electrics because im more than happy with the sound as it is. The only mod ive made to my SUB was to remove the scratch plate and just put the screws back in the holes. Looks much better.

Hi, I bought a squire VMJ from this site a few months ago, its looooovely. But i'm not a fan of the jazz necks. Basically my question is, if i bought a Fender Precision neck, would it fit the jazz neck pocket? I cant find neck dimensions... but if its different, i'm really not up for widening the pocket. any infos appreciated cheeeeers x

Our guitarist uses one... he loves it... I wouldnt say they're tough though... only 300 ish gigs and it looks a state, hes having problems with one of the speakers and the distortion channel bleeds in to the clean. Obviously they're not all problem syou'll have with bass amps, but it does say something about the quality.

[/blindingly_obvious]
Indeed. We actually asked the sound man to turn it down. It was way too loud and a lot of people didnt watch the gig because of it. Fun though. I successfully managed to leave my earplugs at tonights gig and i am going emergency ear plug shopping tomorrow morning.
-
I agree you can hear more with earplugs in, but something about it still doesnt feel right. Just thought i'd mention Waynepunkdude checked the levels while my band was playing last night, apparently we hit 120 dB. Glad i found my earplugs.
-
small world indeed. Turns out, i've slept on your brothers sofa. Yeaa i think we're destined to bump in to each other at some point.
-
i bought a 1997 middlesbrough fc away shirt to wear on stage. theory being that i'll turn up to the gig in whatever im wearing that day, do the gig in the football shirt so it gets all sweaty, then change back afterwards when im not so damp... its catching on in the band... its a good look. old football shirts. of course this is assuming we even wear t shirts. most of the summer it was a pair of shorts/ track suit bottoms and trainers.
-
Is Josh your guitarist? Pretty sure i slept on his sofa when we were touring with Kickback UK + Stand out riot. Would love to come to these gigs but im in Kent... Might bump in to you soon though, think we're doing a mini scotland tour in October. I'm in Tyrannosaurus Alan btw.

because its fun. I can't speak for basses because i only have cheap basses but it works across all aspects of life. I could get by with a transit van (and i do) but id love a Merc Sprinter. I could get by with a 1 bedroom basement flat, but i want a big nice cosy house. If you can have a nice bass then get it, enjoy it, realise it's not for you and get another nice bass. All the while holding on to your Squire P that you just can't bring yourself to shift.
-
we play loud. because our drummer plays loud. and our amps go loud. and we like to scream and shout. but we play to people who like it loud. in loud venues. with loud PAs and loud drunk people. i wear earplugs when i dont lose them. Wish i didnt lose them.
-
i like that a lot. even if it does look gay, or amateurish or messy (which i dont think it does) It doesnt matter because yours is the only one. And thats the wonderful thing about Tiggers, right?
-
you got that! Chris told me he'd already committed to a support and it was a tunbridge wells band... i've been racking my brains trying to think who it was. We've all got tickets.
-
I could well be the only person in the world who prefers the sterling to the ray... i just do. i cant help it.
-
NOOO. Don't be silly Wayne. Stick them in the for sale section and put the money in the VMJ fund.
-
take it to a gig and if it cuts out again just throw it. It's guaranteed to start working again just before it hits the floor. especially if you're loud.
