1.
One thing I've always wondered about 100% bespoke instruments is whether I actually know enough about what I want to ask someone to build it for me. Frankly I don't think I do, despite 20 years of playing bass. I pick one up, if I like it I buy it, if not I put it down again. I don't really put much thought into why. If I wanted to make sure I liked the neck I suppose I could say "Make it like a Jazz" but then why not just buy a Jazz? And stuff like pups and preamps I'd be completely stumped - I've no idea what most of the stuff on the market sounds like.
I agree 100%. I sit here bemused most days listening to people talk about that distinctive Ken Smith "snap", or the "burpy" quality of the U-Retro preamp or how adding a cocobola 2mm veneer will add a "glassy" clarity to the top end or other such nonsense. I sometimes think its just a cock-measuring excercise. Maybe its just my lack of sophistication, but my instructions to a luthier would probably be "make it sound like a P but with a Jazz neck". Might as well just buy a Lakland Duck Dunn. Firstly, I'm no where near qualified to have an idea of what the combination of different woods and electronics would sound like, and secondly, I question how much of it is actually just bullshit.
 2.
And I don't really know anything about...Janek Gwaz... Gwezz... Gwizzleybear... yeah, him.
You must have heard Crockett's Theme surely?
 3. ...or the egg? Do cats lay eggs? I get confused.
 4.
Talk to a waterboardee for their opinion on that.
I think that's more the fear element. A cat slung in a bag with a load of bricks probably doesn't comprehend the fate that awaits it. Its just dark and wet. Almost like returning to the womb.
 5.
What are you implying? I find that sort of thing disturbing, since I hate cruelty of any sort, and have numerous cats. Get a few dreams about torturing animals do you? There's a thread about that on BC somewhere. may I direct you to that?
I always thought drowning cats was one of the least cruel ways to get rid of them? Drowning is supposedly surprisingly painless. I just take mine up the garden and hit them round the head with a spade.
 6.
Ever played one?
Yeah. Was rubbish.
 7. So does this mean I can publish the photo of CK's erect penis that he sent me?
 8. To be honest, I was hoping for a big improvement and was left dissapointed. Regardless of the typos and technical errors, I just find the writing incredibly boring! The guitar mags are a league above in terms of interesting content and writing style. I don't agree with all this talk of improvement not happening over night. To my mind, the mag doesn't need tweaking - it needs a massive overhaul. Still buy it though, so why should they care?
 9. Can with give this clause a name like they do in the media? It'd be very exciting! We can print banners and everything! I've never been on a protest before.
 10.
Not very democratic though, is it?
But I can see WoT's point. This forum is owned by people, and is therefore run under their rules. It would be nice if it was run a democracy (although I question how workable it is), but it is ultimaately the site owners decision. I'm not commenting on if its right or wrong - it just "is". I think if the Mods do push for keeping the clause we're not happy about without explanantion on justification, its a pretty bad PR job.
 11. Agreed. It all looks pretty sensible apart from the aforementioned.
 12.
The only PM I've had from a Mod was thanking me for my level headed contribution to an otherwise quite slangy debate. So do I get an anti warning strike?
I had a Mod PM to tell me that my "brand" of humour was "immature, purile, and insulting" - the holy trinity of humour as far as I'm concerned. Do I win a prize?
 13.
I don't agree with that part at all. What if someone is treated unfairly by a mod and wishes to clear it up with the assistance of the rest of the forum?
My issue is that if the Mods treat people fairly, then there should be no need for secrecy behind their actions. The second you gag people, it looks like your trying to cover up your own wrong-doings.
 14.
By using this web site or any service provided, you explicitly agree that you shall comply with any request made by a Moderator or Administrator in regard to your conduct and use of the forum. 15. I'm loving tort with white these days.
 16. I'm waiting for the Graham Rix signature bass. No doubt it will be marketed to a younger demographic.
 17. I've only scanned through this thread, but am I right in understanding that Bilbo played a jazz gig for a load of hot student chicks naked? Ding Dong! I bet he really did have to "hold down the low-end"! No, seriously folks, you've been a great crowd etc etc......
 18.
That you will!! Double barrel insults might provoke a double strike, depending on the severity! I might give you a strike back if you put some bleedin' clothes on!
Ped, you love a bit of male nudity. I've seen those "photography" magazines you subscribe to.
 19.
Nope, it is a 5 strikes policy. You will know when you have used up a strike, believe me. But we won't be having to use it much I hope! The main thing was for me and Kiwi to get the rules set up for the new mods and revamp the T&Cs which came with the software and aren't tailored to fit our needs as much as we would like. As ever, if you have a problem, report the post to a moderator (not me or kiwi preferably because it short circuits the system) and it will be discussed and sorted - if a warning is to be given it will be made obvious to the individual being warned and simply contain the nature of the rule broken. We used to have a more relaxed and oranic system where we could discuss at length various points and come to some sort of agreement, but with the size of the forum now it is becoming a grey area which soon will be a really clear and concise system. But hey - as long as we can all chill and enjoy ourselves, the main thing we want to do it free up some time to introduce some new features, offers, competitions, products and events for everyone to enjoy. ped
Cool. Makes sense. I will have to use my 4 uber-insults carefully!
 20.
PM sent to you BBC !
Do you mean you've just sent me a PM, or it takes 10 PMs to get banned? According to Johngh, I was up to 80% a while back, and have since had 2 more PMs from Mods. Does this mean I should now be banned? I'm not trying to stir it up, just trying to assess what the current state of play is and what the new rules actually mean in practice.
 21. Nice to see a few different designs from custom builds on BassChat recently. The Man from Del Monte - He say Yes!
 22. Just to clarify, when you say number of warnings reducing to 5 from 10, what counts as a warning? It is 10 complaints received about a post/member, or 10 pms sent to a disruptive member? Also, are we able to check how many warnings we're on? I've been banned before but was not aware of the 10 warning threshold.
 23. Oddly enough, I watched this. Got all excited telling my missus how someone from BassChat was playing. Even kept pointing you out saying "there he is! there he is!". She just looked at me like I was nuts. Not my scene, but the bass sounded excellent, so well done there. I would have been put off by all those people pulling cum-faces and holding out their arms.
 24. I'm not usually into basses, but that is lovely. Shame its got batteries in it - but that's just me. Have a bump on me.
 25.
Of course, you are right. But when these idiots are starting to pm you ( I have had to use the blocking facility)
By "idiots" you mean well respected forum members* who would rather clear the air in private via a friendly PM? *Not me I hasten to add!
