1997 USA Fender Jazz 5-string - Black, White PG, Rosewood

Thank you everyone who has contributed to this thread, it's been extremely interesting and helpful. I found there was more people against the 33" than I thought. However, after reading reviews of people with 33" 5's and 6's I think I'm going to go for it. Please keep the comments coming if you have any more!

More of the Smith - it's been well used! And the Jazz, when it had a J-retro in it:

Thanks for all the positive comments. I'm extremely happy with "the herd". Sometimes I wonder why I keep the Ibby Musician, then I play it and remember what a stonking bass it is in it's own right. For a while it was my main gigging bass, then the 75 jazz was, and now it's the Shuker.

Hi all Needing to shift my Fives - incoming Shuker, dontcha know! This is a USA Fender Jazz 5. Black finish, white PG (but easily changeable, standard fit) with Rosewood board. It's a 1997 model. All sounds as it should, perfect jazz tone. Nice B string too. It's in really A1 condition - the only problem is a ding at the back which I've photographed. Looking for £370 picked up. This doesn't include a case. I can include a Fitted Fender hard case for £395. No issues with the bass apart from the ding and regular slight crazed buckle rash on the back - just need to move some to make way for the Jazz 5 Jon is making me. Pics: Now I want to get this shifted, but I don't want to ship, so it's collection only from Chelmsford, Essex - I'm very close to the A12, which is off the M25. Basically, priority to people who can come and pickup asap. I can't wait for 3 weeks until you get paid holding the bass unfortunately! Thanks all! Regards Mike Oh, and trades? Extremely unlikely, but it never hurts to ask I suppose! Really just after the £££.

Some sort of see-through finish, is it??

Hi all - finally, an up-to-date family picture! Back L-R: Bassix Jazz EUB, Ken Smith BT6, Cort GB-75 Front L-R: 1975 Fender Jazz, Shuker Custom Jazz 4, 1968 Fender Jazz (modded with EMG active pups & fretless lined ebony board - no, it wasn't me!), 1984 Ibanez Musician. This are the basses that I gig with, and get regular usage: 75 Jazz, Shuker, 69 Jazz, Ken Smith. I'm using the Cort to tide me over as Jon Shuker is building me a matching 5 string but in Red, with delano pickups, and macassar board & blocks (think a snazzy 66 Candy Apple Red Fender!) This is the pedalboard I use, should you be interested. Custom-made (by myself, a complete duffer at anything manly like DIY). This comprises: Sadowsky DI, Boss LMB3 Limiter, EBS Octabass octaver, Boss TU2 Tuner, Danelectro Autowah and a not-often used programmable Tech 21 Sansamp. I also use Markbass gear - a 1x12 combo, with a 2x10 extension. Regards Mike
Anything by Flanders & Swann or Tom Lehrer, because bassists really should get out more.
+1 for Flanders & Swann - Cannot get enough of these genius songwriters & comedians!

Heck, yes, Kevin. They are very nice. A lot of people who don't want to fork out £2k for a Ken Smith rate these as an alternative. The BXP are the cheaper ones, these are USA built. All good here Jordan, cheers - good luck with the sale! You should post pics of your bass(es) in the Bass Porn section!

I hope that is Alex from the Gallery. Great guy.

Check out the Bass Merchant, in Witham, Essex. Changed hands recently but the previous owner Mike Walsh was a fab guy, I'm sure he's sold it to the right people.

Hi there - as soon as I saw the thread title, I was going to say " Speak to Mike @ Bass Merchant" because last time I was in he gave me the lowdown on them. After reading your post I see that's not necessary! Greetings from Chelmsford and a very satisfied customer of Mike!

Thanks for all your input - I went out and bought it, it's very nice. It's a Sienna Burst with the woodgrain visable. I'll post pics when I can!
-
It's a natural five string, but he's mentioned some sort of colourburst on there - so I'm a little confused. I'll see it in the next day or two and give it a play. Thanks for the speedy help, all!
-
Thanks for the input - it's the natural one, £150 with hard case. Seems like a decent deal. What's the neck like? In terms of width and playability?

Hi, I've seen a Cort GB75 for sale second hand. Just wondered if you guys had any experience with them? I see they're rated highly by some on Talkbass. Also, what do you think is a fair price for one second hand? Thanks, Mike
-
Brilliant. I see Todd was exceptionally complimentary about your playing over at Talkbass - way to go!
