1. Hm, bit too narrow string spacing for my liking I reckon. But thanks .
2. Considering shifting my Warwick Dolphin Pro 1... Bass is in great, great shape technically as well as in looks. A few very minor bumps (I'll shoot some pics, if I can find them again...). Don't know if they all were, but this paricular one is a 'Broad neck' version... Super low action, and the most stable instrument I ever had in all regards (neck, electronics etc.). Comes with the original flightcase, which is heavy, but very very durable. Shippingwise it passes under the 20 kg. limit though. £1550 Shipped within EU. 3. GAS... Bitten by the Warwick bug, and considering trading my Elrick Gold NJS for a Streamer st. 1 broadneck, or a similar thumb... Preferably 5 string fretted or fretless. The Elrick has wonderfull low action, and a really fast neck... Borrowing the thread of my purchase: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/173492-fs-elrick-usa-sold/page__p__1641580__hl__elrick__fromsearch__1#entry1641580. Bass has a few minor nicks, but is in full working order.
4. Must be something with the angle from which the pcitures are taken... String spacing looks somewhat wider than 17 mm..
5. Thanks for all your kind advice on this. Was indeed helpful Ended up with one of these: http://www.presonus.com/community/blog/index.php/category/audiobox-vsl/ and a pair of AKG K 271 MKII. If I come to use it alot I will invest in a pair of nice nearfield monitors as well . ... So now I just need to figure out how to use the damn thing
6. Thanks alot guys, for all your comments. The Reaper way it is... Don't really need too much fancy stuff cluttering things up I guess . Will be buying a PreSonus audio interface + M-audio keyboard sometime this weekend, if all goes well. Looking forward to playing around with it .
7. 35" scale ?... String spacing ?
8. And just for the record... this thread was not started so I can bitch about the deal I made (almost 3 months ago). But seing the ad the other day just reminded me to bring up the discussion about 'state of items'' .
9. At €1700 you would expect a certain degree of 'seriousity' from seller. Ofcourse I saw pictures, but honestly I reasoned that if one owns a €1700 hand built instrument, one does care/know what it looks like. And certainly what state the truss rod is in.
For any item which is costing enough to make me concerned I'd be asking for a shed-load of pics. If they weren't forthcoming I'd walk away. Or (not very practical for yourself) but again - if the price warranted it I'd be collecting only - if it wasn't as described I'd be after a discount or as before; walk away. Only time I've done that was with my Hiwatt cab. It is knackered cosmetically, but I wasn't arguing for £250.
10.
If I bought something I wasn't pleased with on here, I would politely take it up with the seller and see if some sort of compromise could be achieved... in my experience most people on here are pretty reasonable. In my view there is only one definition of the term 'mint', which is: unworn, undamaged, in perfect condition, brand-new and factory-fresh. 'Mint' with a few dings and scratches is NOT mint, IMHO. Contradiction in terms.
Oh, but I did tell seller that the item was not quite as described, and that in my most friendly tone. In equally friendly terms I was told that he obviously missed the dings on the headstock, and that I probably used the wrong Allen key for the truss rod. I considered focussing the discussion on some sort of compensation, but as you really can't do sh*** about it, and seller is +600 km's away I pretty much left it there, and got on with my life. As stated, I really really enjoy the bass for it's sound and playability... So... That will have to do. On bit of a sidenote... Anyone actually read a bad remark on the feedback section about anyone ?. Thought about doing som myself after this deal, and I probably will in near future. Just seems that it's not something people do very often...
11. I realize that we are quite a few 'foreigners' on this forum. However, still feel that not having english as your native language is no excuse, describing your items correctly in the classifieds... A few days ago I came across an ad here on BC, stating that the bass for sale is in 'mint' condition - with only a few dings and scratches. One BC'er correctly replied that if the bass is described as mint, it obviously has no dings and other 'issues'. I too have bought an instrument on this site described as having no issues, and only very few very small bumps on the back side. Upon arrival I straight away found, that there several noticeable dings on the headstock, and the truss rod Allen-key socket is close to being completely rounded off. Don't get me wrong... I am completely content with the instrument as such, but should I ever want to part with it I would not get nearly the same amount for it as I paid. Simply because I would feel obligaed to tell buyer about these things. Point being... Here on BC (as well as on Danish bass related discussion boards) we are all seemingly members of the same community, and judging by comments on the classifieds, we are all 'good friends'. So how do you handle a situation where you feel that seller has been documenting condition of an instrument poorly, (maybe unintentionally), and how can you explain to people, the actual definition of the term 'mint' ?.
12. Ok... So getting wiser all the time. Haven't bought anything just yet, but I did go to my local instrument/music shop yesterday for their view on things. Ofcourse salesguys are salesguys, but I got a nearly two hour rundown on options/demo of software... Nice service, which definately will make me buy any stuff I need new from there. They recommended me to use Studio One (upgraded to full version), along with a Presonus 22 VSL soundcard. Salesguy also recommended speakers for monitoring, and after listening to a few I narrowed it down to either Genelec og Adam (liked the Dynaudios soooo much, but probably because my stereo setup are Dyn's, and I'm used to their characteristics...). Messing around with at Studio one (limitied time full version), and it does seem very easy and intuitive. These parameters are important to me, as I will likely be playing around with it a few hours here and there (when my schedule allows it), and if the learning curve is too steep, I will almost certainly give up on it. Further I was recommended to buy Native Instruments (Komplete 8 ?) for some nice drumkit-sounds. Looking at the initial quote on it all, it would seem that the software part of things counts for almost half the total price (app £600), which I think is quite steep ?. Not that I mind spending money on nice software, but it better be REAL nice at that price . Keeping in mind, that I am not going to go 'pro' with this, I am thinking of another solution... EzDrummer Reaper Apogee soundcard (some second hand monitors... Dynaudio ?). This could be done for less than the quote I got on the other stuff. Question is just, if Reaper will stack up to Studio One in usability etc.. Any thoughts on this ? .
13. Facts... I really like facts . -Thanks
14.
the exception is that someone was possibly talking rubbish
Thanks for clearing that up
15. I'm referring to the string spacing (at bridge ?)...
16. ... At one point someone told me that all of them are 'broad necks'. Are there no exceptions to this ??.
17. Reaper looks real nice indeed, and $60 is indeed a bargain. Looks a bit like the old Cool edit pro . Ezdrummer seems a bit steep though ?. As for the I/O bit... How advanced do you reckon one should get with it ?. Looked at a few options, and judging by the 2'hand prices it's easy to get a bit carried away .
18. Hi... Need a few pointers on a simple setup for home recording. Right now I would really just like to create some drum tracks, and record a number of bass/guitar or whatever grooves on top of it. Also it would be nice to load MP3's, and filter out the bass to do my own basslines. Recommendations for soft/hardware ?.
19. Have one cash offer, so if nobody here wants it, it's likely on it's way to Texas US tomorrow (depending on how long it takes me to get a decent quote on shipping...)
20. Yeah, at that price it can't be completely bugger ..
21. PM'ed
Where can I send some photos too?
22. SEI... Also on the list of basses I'd like to own (however, unlike Celinders obviously, these are quite rare in this country if there are any at all...). Might be tempted....
23. Thanks guys... I would think that it's a fair deal even at the original price really, and I would consider 'trade value' quite a bit higher as well. Current price is indeed a straight sale, and if (or more likely when) the bass I have my eyes on gets shifted to someone else, the offer goes
24. Frets are not as new, but not excessively worn either... I would think that at this price, there should be sufficient funds for a fretjob some time in the future. But it's not urgent... Have never played a Fender 5, but I would think that the neck on this one is somewhat wider ?.
How is the fretwork? if it is gigged a lot the frets might need replacing And what are the measurements of the neck? bigger or smaller then the average fender 5-ers?
25. Yeah, I would hope someone can put this one to good use. It's a real nice bass, and is sort of the luxury version of 'a working muscians instrument'. The guy who owned it before me has gigged it several times a week for years, and has taken good care of it. Too bad if it's just going to end it's days in a flightcase under the bed.
