  1. I understand. I'll be detuning to C, G, C, F. Everything has been written like that and I can't make the needed in standard tuning. It's good fun actually and doesn't sound as bad as you would think 👍.
  2. The bass cut seems to have a dramatic effect as a big cut can sound like you have cut the volume. The treble has only minimal effect so I'm playing with the bass most of the way up and the treble quite far down. The tone is great though so a bit less control is no big deal for me. It is a nice smooth ray sound. I haven't tried it in a band yet though
  3. I recall a passive one on here a while back. I would have hesitated to buy one without trying it out first. The one I picked up was local. It had been the seller's dad/guitarists bass, so he didn't know anything about it. There wasn't an amp to try it with, but it played so nice I decided to buy it anyway. Thats why I was "pleasantly surprised" at how good it sounds as I was thinking that I would probably need to add a preamp. I'm now thinking that it is fine as it is.
  4. Me neither, there can't be much else that is available at this price with such a good spec. Overall it's a very refined instrument.
  5. Thanks for replying. I am starting to think that there aren't many passives out there. I have to say in your story, that I would have kept sending them back too-aswell! and...If a bass doesn't "fit" it takes the pleasure out of playing. I play with a pick and a crouching style, which may be why haven't noticed any similar problems. I have noticed on some of the forums that players sometimes modify their subs by shaving bits off for a better fit. I have wondered about the quality of the body wood as it is a bit of a lump but not heavy. Having said that, I really like the sound that comes out of it, which is the most important thing and I like the industrial look, so it is working for me. I still haven't tested it with the band yet though.
  6. I played Northumbrian Pipes, 6 String Guitar and Harmonica before bass guitar. I need to improve on all so I'm not sure that they did help much with my bass playing 😁....but my bass playing helped fix my poor timing so it probably worked more in the direction.
  7. Offers?
  8. A new purchase means I would except less. A brilliant playing and sounding bass. Before I start advertising elsewhere!
  9. A new purchase means I would except less. A brilliant playing and sounding bass for very little dosh before I start advertising elsewhere!

  11. Hmm just been playing some more. Great tone but friendlier on the ear than the actives that I have had. I have had 4 SR5's (3x MM's and a Sterling) over the years and loved playing them live as they sat just right in the mix and cut though in a great way. I never particularly liked the Solo'd sound though. Maybe this will need more care in terms of amp adjustment. All subjective at the moment. Only one way to find out!
  12. Just thought I would share my thoughts on my latest purchase. I picked it up locally and my expectations weren't that high, as the prospect of a "passive ray" seemed to strange to me. I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised at how good it plays and sounds. It sounds great, that ray sound really sings. Other things that I had heard were "they are really heavy; finish is horrible etc.". Again, pleasantly surprised as it feels great in the hand. Plays well and weights 9lb, which is my ideal weight. Anyone else playing or have playing experiences of these? I would be interested to hear of the live experience. Picture attached as proof! 😉
  13. Yes that was in daylight, it is one of those finishes that looks great on-stage or under lights. This is the same bass indoors....
  14. Apologies, I have another commitment. Was looking forward to it. Have as great time
  15. I've just been "testing" this for a while after tightening a tone pot that was coming loose. Lovely sounds IMHO. There are loads of great sounds available with the pre-amp. I had only previously used it live in passive mode😁. Here's a vid of someone running a similar model though it's paces.
  16. I'd like to come along. Depends on commitments so I'll confirm nearer the time. Note: I can bring some interesting kit. Manton, Supro (again), Jack Cassidy, and Precision Deluxe, Triad and Surveyor if I still have them. I can't bring em all though so let me know if you fancy playing anything specific. Also some pedals. I really enjoyed the past ones I managed to make. Ed
  17. On Hold for now
  18. I imported this beast from the USA. It is battered and bruised but I love the sound of it and it has never let me down. Plays well but the action may need looked at. Spider can be peeled off as it's fairly recent. low price! How Dark - YouTube
  19. Good condition. Quirky to set up but sounds sweet once you get your head around it. I've settled on using my Sands DP for now so don't need it. Comes with a tatty box but no power supply or instructions. Takes 18V.
  20. LoMenzo HyperDrive Unique bass distortion pedal in decent condition. Cointains some great tones but I'm using a Sands DP which covers similar ground. Blurb follows.... Created in collaboration with hard rock bass legend James Lomenzo. The Lomenzo Hyper Drive draws on James' 30 year playing career that has seen him work with Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society, David Lee Roth, Ozzy Osbourne, Slash's Snake Pit, White Lion and Megadeth. Get Hyper To create the fire-breathing overdrive sound that James craves, the drive section in the Hyper Drive is far from typical. A band of frequencies in the mid range of the bass signal is selected and the distortion effect is only applied to those frequencies creating a unique overdrive flavour whereby the top and bottom end remains untouched, but the powerful mids can be tuned from a mild-growl to full-on distortion. You can tune the distortion frequency range to suit your bass/style and a mix control let's you balance the original 'dry' signal back into the mix. Setting the level Whether you're using an active or passive bass, the Ashdown VU meter in combination with the Input level knob let's you easily find the sweet spot. Ensuring you get the best possible tone in and out of whatever instrument you're using. Built for the road We know the rigours of the live gigging, that's why we build our pedals tough enough for whatever the road throws at them. Metal casings, premium controls and switches, recessed knobs and kickguards to protect screens and VU meters – bring it on! True Bypass Switching We don't mess with your tone. Ashdown Pedals feature genuine 'true bypass' switching for zero-colouration of your input signal when the pedal isn't in use. The Output level control lets you dial in the perfect balance between the effect and the true bypass level
  21. Bypass pedal with led. I don't know much about it other than it works fine. Collect or add postage.
  22. Tech 21 Sansamp VT Bass Driver Deluxe in good condition. It is really easy to use and sounds great. No longer available as I believe they have been discontinued. Comes with box and instructions. £185 including postage within the UK. Tech21 VT Bass Deluxe: the Deluxe version of the SansAmp VT Bass features a combination of a warm, all-analog signal path and convenient digital recall. The Tech21 VT Bass Deluxe features 6 program locations and dual inputs for two instruments to be on-line, ready to go. Create three custom tones for each input or use all six locations for a single instrument. And you can program the FX loop to engage your favorite effect each time a so-designated preset is selected. Super simple to operate, changes can easily be made on the fly - without having to refer to the owner's manual. You just turn the knobs to a setting you like, double click on a footswitch and it's saved in that channel. You can custom tweak and program six of your personal sounds, from vintage clean to gnarly overdrive to crushing distortion.
  23. Weight added!
  24. A lovely fretless, very resonant, adaptable & Light weight. Last played on some recordings in 2018. I never play it but do want to have a fretless available so am looking to trade for a passive fretless so that I don't need to worry about the batteries having run down. I prefer precision types and unlined. Will sell for dosh if enough for me to get a passive replacement. Bass is like new. Picture, and video link below
