1. I have a medium scale (32) japanese made Squier P-Bass, serial A0 which i think makes it 85/86. I was thinking about upgrading the pickups / electronics on this. I don't have another P to compare, so I might be wrong. Does anyone know anything about the quality of pickups/electronics on these? It has the square edged type of pickups (not the sloping kind), look like standard size to me. Any pickup recommendations as a starting point? I'm after an old school P-Bass sound, Meters, Fred Thomas etc. Cheers Ted
2. i'm not sure how Nash works - is this a Fender that's been given the Nash treatment? I ask because the Nash's i've seen have Nash on the headstock, but this one has Fender. Looks very cool btw.
3. the breadcrumb thing has changed - used to say for example Basschat / Basschat Market Place / Basses For Sale now says Basschat / / / Basses For Sale so you can't skip back to the general market place?

5. I've recently bought a marvellous Fender Geddy Jazz on this forum. It has very simple controls - Vol Neck / Vol Bridge / Tone (one knob for both) I've only ever had a P-Bass so this two pickup thing has taken some investigation... I always thought that 80% of a pickup is just a quieter version of 100%. But is it?? For example I was of the mind that you either have the neck or bridge on full volume, and dial in the other to taste. But what I've ended up with for the moment is neck on 80% and bridge on 60-70%. This to my ears sounds different to neck on 100% bridge on 90%, if you see what i mean. It seems like the last 10 to 20% of the volume really changes the tone even if you're only running one pickup - obviously it makes it louder but even if i turn down the amp to compensate it seems to make it brighter and harder. Am i imagining things here? Anyway, just thought some of you might like to chip in with thoughts about how you like to work your two pickups on the Jazz... Cheers Ted
6. sounded good to me. i never had the main gain above about 4 or 5, compressor was good, and the eqs seemed very effective. not had any other amps to compare it to.
7. Traded my amp and cab with Herman, great to deal with! Many thanks Ted
8.
Anyway its a Japanese Fender from the 90s
and very nice too
9. ok thanks. that would probably make it 1999-2002 according to fender: http://www.fender.com/en-GB/support/articles/japanese-instruments-product-dating/ Crafted in Japan P + 6 digits 1999-2002 made in japan P+6digits is 93/94. what a crazy system?! anyway, thanks, just wanted to be accurate as am having a think about this one
10. is it a 'made in japan' as opposed to a 'crafted in japan'? just curious
11. do you know what year? what's the serial no? or the first few letters will do
12. trades considered. also i have an Ampeg PF500 (6 months old) may also consider for trade included the 410.
13. Fuji Gen crafted early 90s Orvile Les Paul, long neck tenon! photo flame sunburst, all original including original humbuckers and japanese softcase. This is a beautifully made guitar, very solid, plays like a dream, no fretwear of note, seems as well made as any Gibson i've picked up. Has some wear but nothing major - small dings, see pics. Main thing of note is that the varnish on the body front is crazed/cracked. Not the wood, just the varnish. it does not affect playability and you can only see the cracks when you get to within a couple of feet. This apparently is a common issue with these. I personally don't mind it at all, but if you like your guitars minty then look away! I imported this from Japan about 3 years ago. I have since moved over to bass and am selling 2 of my 3 guitars. £[s]550 ono posted[/s]. £495 posted ono. I have the sturdy box that it came here from japan in, so i'll use that to ship (UK only). Welcome to come and check it out (kingston, surrey / sw london)
14.
Also, a little off topic: have any londoners been to guitar guitar in Epson? It's not far from me but I never knew it was there until I recently went for my jap 57 P ri and was very impressed with their collection! Not a massive variation on makes: mainly fender, with G&L Ernie Ball, ibanez, etc. and some others dotted around such as sadawsky etc. So not the same make variation you'll find in the gallery but a very impressive collection none the less! Plus the guys were alright too
i went there for the first time the other day and i was pretty impressed! huge shop and happy to let you noodle around. i also went to andertons in guilford, which have a smallish range of basses (lots of fenders) and again are happy to let you sit there and try them out, and the bass room is cut off from the rest of the shop so its a bit more private. i think you can also get a separate room to demo amps but i didn't do that. i could hear the squalling of a rock solo coming from somewhere though... back on topic - i didn't know of the bass gallery but sounds like an essential visit.
