Let me give you an example - a few years back I was in a late night pub in shoreditch, I can't remember what it was called, but it was obviously a bit of a hangout / jam session for local jazz talent. There was a jam taking place, not on stage, just on the floor with great musicians dropping in and out with people crowding round in a circle to get a view. Really great raw jamming, very exciting etc. This is what I mean by the opposite of 'polite'. Any ideas?

Any jazz players/fans here that might be able to put me onto some interesting places to hear live jazz in london, south west london, surrey etc. I'm looking for new, hardcore, underground jazz. Interesting, young players (but not necessarily), experimental etc. Could be jam sessions in pubs, etc. Could be fusion with other genres etc. Main thing is its got to be interesting and exciting. Must be the [i]opposite[/i] of polite, traditional, established, nice applause after every solo etc. (no offence intended). Cheers Ted

this is a bit hard to describe but i'd like my bass to sit further to the left of my body when standing. it would be the equivalent of having it on your left leg when sitting. this is because i'm getting right-shoulder pains which are eased if the bass is further to my left side... (i'm right handed) i wondered if trying a back of headstock strap nut, or a 'lower horn' strap nut would shift the position at all. before i go drilling useless holes into my bass i wanted to ask opinions! as its a bit difficult to try out.

i wanted to experiment with low tension roundwounds and bought at 40-100 set of DR HiBeams.and also a set of Thomastik JR344 (these come in one weight 39 to 85 i think) however as i usually play Thomastik flats i just couldn't get on with roundwounds at all, so both sets are on sale having been played for 20 mins at most. pm me if you're interested. for the record, in comparison with TI flats which are known for being pretty low tension, i would say the DRs feel a little more tense, and the TI roundwounds feel very very very low tension. they also feel unusually thin.

i know this question was aimed at the ladies but . . . i hunted down an old 32" scale japanese precision as i wanted to move up from guitar. i've since had some 34" scale basses but i've returned to the 32 as i love the feel of it and it actually sounds great, plus it's light. i'm actually over 6 ft with enourmously long fingers but i still like the smaller scale, probably due to the years on guitar. i would definitely recommend trying medium scale bases if you find 34" scale too big or heavy. you can buy 32" fender jazz and aerodynes new direct from japan, they are on ebay, plus i have the details of a dealer in london who imports them and sorts out all the duty and all that. pm me if you're interested as i can't remember the name and i'll have to dig it out. also there was a 32" jazz on the sales forum lately. i happened to try a 34" fender aerodyne in denmark st today and that was pretty cool too - lightweight, nice thin jazz neck and with precision pickup as well as a jazz pickup. looks nice if you're into shiny black things too. i've not tried anything smaller than a 32" scale but i see fender have some short 30 scale basses at the moment. good to know there are some women on this forum. kim deal is one of my favourite bass players for keeping it simple and probably the coolest person in the rock universe!
