1. Way back Andy Fraser of Free played some very mature Bass lines for one so young, Jack Bruce although gifted was a little to busy for me having said that John Entwistle made being busy very musical.
2. At 7.7lbs this amp is ridiculously lightweight, two outputs (500 watts each in to 4 ohms) plus the usual efects send and return etc. The amp is in pristine condition complete with mounting brackets, manual and original box £190. Used for rehearsing and on gigs driving a 1x15 (Eminence 450 watt Neo) and 2x10+horn (also loaded with Eminence 10s). Reason for selling is that I'm about to take delivery of a custom built 200 watt all valve amp based on the 70s Fender Bassman 100 which is a present to myself as a retirement amp and will be probably my last before retirement. I also have an Ashdown RPM1 preamp (John Entwistle) that I may also consider selling after the new amp arrives. Pictures available via email "][email protected]
3.
If anyone still doubts the massive impact of The Beatles as cultural icon then prepare to be convinced: http://www.bbc.co.uk...eyside-18886223
Agree 100% There will never be anything to equal the effect/impact that they had and not just for there music, the cultural shock that they created is still being felt today.
4.
Not suggesting we should forget they exiisted. I've seen 50 years of Beatle fanatics, and judging by the title of this thread, theres still hype. Still people who think of them as some sort of prophets. Some people bought anything they did, or said. Some even bought the white album and Yellow Submarine. They were just 4 (slightly upper) working class kids from Liverpool. Time to let go and move on.
If you weren't playing in the time before the Beatles you couldn't feel the full impact they made, I did my first gig late summer 62, 6 months later the whole Uk (soon to be world) music scene was turned upside down, we were carried along on the fantastic ride they created and although I still gig regularly I'll never foreget the debt that we owe to the Beatles, they freed the popular music scene for a while.
5.
A "Beatles Experience" that involves music of The Beatles? What did you expect? Felt like they were "cashing in on the memory of the Beatles", this has got to be a wind up surely?
I didn't expect to be subjected to One Man and an Electro Accoustic in the advertised 'Home of the Beatles' neither did many others, the whole area is hyped up as The Beatles Experience, the band on Sunday night were good, live and authentic.
6. As I said Sunday in the Cavern was great, but on Monday nearly all of the venues that had been belting out music the previous evening were closed although there were plenty of visitors including many from overseas including a high percentage from the far east. if you go on the Beatles Experience you only get one night in your hotel, I felt very sorry for those who'd arrived on Monday expecting to hear the 'Liverpool Sound' only to be subjected to self penned (rule of the house no covers) Suicide notes at the open mic night in the Cavern Bar and busking in the Cavern Club. We payed to stay another night as we'd enjoyed the Sunday sessions to say that it was a bit of a letdown would be an understatement. Go to Nashville and there we found umpteen bands all over town most nights during our two visits
7. Went to the 'Beatle Experience' staying at The Hard days Night Hotel on Sunday 15th July. The Hotel was great and only a couple of minutes from the Cavern Club and Cavern Bar. There were visitors from all round the world who like us enjoyed the live band music on Sunday evening. Unfortunately this did not carry through on Monday evening where we were subjected to solo singer guitarists churning out Beatles songs like street buskers. Like us a couple from Norway were very dissapointed to find and absence of live bands on Monday evening anywhere in the vicinity of the 'Cavern', which, as on Sunday evening, was packed out again, we had paid to stay an extra night expecting to see and hear more live bands. It felt like they were just cashing in on the memory of the Beatles. To travel from the far side of the world as many of the visitors had and only to be entertained by nothing more than busking must be a letdown.
8. Iv'e had both G&L L2500s the Tribute and i satill have the real thing, all I can say is that they're both top class. if there is a weakness then it is in the actives.
9. Why oh why won't Ashdown make available a power amp version of their Little Giant?
10. I build my own cabs and quite few for other people, these two were for a fellow bassist who used a Markbass amp, at the time they were £175 each but with Neos reaching silly prices these days they'd cost more. The cabs are 1/2" ply braced and amzingly light, the tuning ports are 4" fall pipe the 15" (3" in the 2x10) is loaded with an Eminence Kappalite 3015, the 2x10" isloaded with Eminence Beta 10s. I gig the same type of cabs myself so I know how well they work and how much sound they kick out In the past complex cabs were needed due to the limtations of the speakers of the day, if they'd handle 100 watts you were lucky, today i make a simple tuned. box
11. Played one when they were first issued in the early 60s. Eric Haydock of the Hollies played one on their early hits.
12. eBay customer support have been rubbish and most annoying, you get replies to 1% of what you've written and loads of replies to nothing you've written. eBay have even claimed that the seller has refunded the original carriage cost when all the seller has refunded the cost of the item. You never get a direct reply to what you have written. It is a policy that they employ to wear you down.
13. I bought a Fender Jazz Bass V on Ebay, there was serious undisclosed damage to the headstock that could not be repaired. Although the seller refunded the cost of the item he would not refund carriage/delivery cost. Ebay have been no help whatsoever despit all the claims of secure buying. I am £60 out of pocket over carriage/delivery costs which Ebay have failed to to tackle the seller over as he deliberately mis-sold the item. So beware Ebay/Paypal are not as safe as they imply
14. Many thanks for the response guys, the Stingray was sold and is now on its way to France.
15. Matamp is a great place to visit and see some great amps being built.
16.
It's WON-DER-FUL! PM'ed! Edit: The crack on the JB is awful, the seller might be a crook! This cannot be forgotten! :S Do you still have the original Pickup, it seems to be a Seymour Duncar Bassline on the pics?
it is a Seymour Duncan Bassline pickup as you quite correctly noticed, The original will be put back on the bass this weekend. It is a coincidence that the 1962 Burns Split Sound Bass in the picture also went to France, I used one from 1963-69 throughout Beatlemania.
17. BTW I'm really looking for cash as i recently bought through eBay/Paypal a 5 string Fender Jazz Bass that had an (undisclosed by the seller) irrepairable fault where it had been dropped and the headstock cracked along the machinehead screw line, there was even a failed attempt to stop the crack travelling by inserting a dowel into a blind hole drilled into the back of the headstock, the seller claimed not to know anything of this although he'd owned the bass from new, although he's refunded the price of the bass I'm still £60 out of pocket in receiving and returning charges and I'm having trouble with eBay/Paypal getting these refunded. This is the damage that the seller claims he foregot to mention
18. Many thanks for that info 'dub junkie' There was always that possibility, it had only arrived from the factory a couple of days before, we'd visited the store a few days earlier and originaly decided on another SR5 but when we saw this one I changed my mind. Our local store in the UK immediately offered to buy it from me for more than I'd paid in Nashville. The only reason I'me selling it is that I finaly found the bass I've wanted for several years when I traded the G&L L2500 Tribute pictured above for a real G&L L2500 to which I've fitted a J-Retro kit.
19.
It could just be the lighting in the photos but the Root Beer coloured MM's I've seen have been much darker. Looks like you may have an even rarer colour than you think.
Could well be, my Wife asked the guy in Nashville what colour it was and he said in a typical southern drawl "Ma'am we call that Mettalic Root Beer". The Burns 6 string Split Sound Bass was even more rare only 200 made in 1962.
20. 1999 Musicman Stingray 5 in rare ‘Root Beer’ finish with matching headstock. My Wife bought it for me as an anniversary present from ‘Corner Music’ on a visit to Nashville in May 1999 (dates on neck and body March April 1999). There are a few minor marks the worst being a small chip on the tip of the headstock but nothing serious, just those picked up through road use. None of the UK retailers I’ve visited have seen this finish in the UK before; some even asked if the scratch plate was original (which it is). I’m asking £1000, no part-ex.
21. Bought a MM Stingray 5 in Nashville on a holiday in 2009 £806 (£1300 in the UK at that time) went back to motel put neck in one case body in another caught the plane home.
22.
Used to be my baby! Bought it new it '03, I think. Lovely bass. Have to say I never found the original pickups to be lacking, or the original preamp "anemic"! Always sounded great to my ears. Plays and balances beautifully, even smells nice! Good luck with the sale!
I had a US Precision De-Luxe and quite honestly I found the electronics lacking for such a big name company. I had a 1965 Fender Jazz from new and when I fitted a J-Retro kit it really kicked ass.
