1.
The most important thing I took from it was professionalism - not the ability to play a lydian augmented scale at 120mph, but behaviour.
This. It really is what sorts the bullsh*tt*rs from the class players. p.s. A lydian augmented what ?
 2. I been playing since 73, but have had long periods 'resting' one of them almost 15 years. Its all relative though I reckon. I have never had a lesson, dont read books about it, know very little theory, dont read and dont have a very good ear. But I have met a good few Bass players who describe themselves as professionals that aint been all that, and have replaced one or two in bands and they haven't been missed. There have been periods where it was my only income, but I wasnt making much. Rarely been to try out for bands without getting the gig. Never been kicked out or eased out due to not being up to the job. But to be honest I dont reckon I'm good. I have been told I have a good feel for it, but I'm just winging it most of the time.
 3.
Let's hope that whoever has to sign the documents is waiting by the letterbox with a pen in their hand!
Aah well. Despite being told otherwise by DHL, the papers were delivered by DHL at 12.30. The idea being that when we know they have arrived, someone would ring the recipient and ask what time they would be available for a courier to collect them. Unfortunately the solicitor had enclosed a SAE, and didnt know the papers had been delivered. So they were signed and posted back by normal overland mail. Now, as I understand it from yesterdays papers, theres a huge backlog of mail to and from the UK as a result of an air strike jn France. So who knows when they will get here now.
 4. Just gets better.... DHL have said the package, collected Friday lunchtime, is not out for delivery today and won't be delivered until tomorrow. Apparently it is in a sorting office in Rennes, but didn't arrive in time to make delivery today, even though it left Nantes at 05:25 am yesterday morning. So much for DHL Express NEXT DAY Service.
 5. So after lots of argy bargy with solicitors, it went DHL Express on Friday afternoon - Just caught them before they posted it first class. Now, according to DHL tracking after spending the weekend in Brussels, the package left their Nantes facility at 5.30 this morning. But despite Nantes being the the destination, its apparently held up by a French air strike. Good innit ?
 6. If your not in a hurry, and you can get them to me near Lichfield, I can do them for you. Moving house is imminent though so it would have to wait till thats sorted.
 7. Somewhere in the south. I appreciate the offers, but I dont see how. If I can get it sent by 24 hours Fedex it would reach him as quickly as it would reach you wouldnt it ?
 8.
Is it not possible to scan the document, mail it to them, get them to sign it, scan again and resend it electronically? Is the house being sold here, or in the UK? Not sure which way round this is all happening and can't see why they are asking for 10 days in the middle of it all.
My thoughts exactly. But apparently not. The land is jointly owned by two people, one in the UK and one in France. I'm led to believe that all parties have to sign the same document in front of witnesses. We have signed it, he one in the UK has just signed it, now it has to go to the other one and then get back here to their solicitors in Brum, and then my solicitor in Wales. Then will have to be approved by the buyers solicitor I expect. All this should have been done months ago, but as we are buying the freehold, to sell with the house, the YTS kid, or whoever my solicitor delegates this sort of job to, missed it.
 9. I didnt say cost was no object, I have to be reasonable. A day each way by courier would do fine. But not the 10 days or so that the solicitors claim is the best they can do. Should have been done in December last year, wasnt till exchanging contracts was imminent almost a month ago that they realised it hadnt been sorted. I think sending it by next day courier at their expense is the least they can do. I really just want to know if its even possible to do it on a next day delivery basis before I start making demands.
 10. Due to a complete balls up by the solicitors handling the conveyancing for the sale of my house, I need to get a form to someone in France, get it signed and then back to my solicitor as quickly as is possible. Obviously the post offices here and in France are too slow, so it need to be a courier I suppose. Does anyone on here do this sort of thing regularly, and whats the cost and whats the best way ?
 11.
as I used all lower case letters.
I spose that makes you 'little kev b' then
 12. A 2A 24V bench power supply, or an amp thats idling wont draw much current through the bulb. No reason not to use a bigger bulb though, 150W say. But an amp when its idling wont light a 100W very brightly, and the point is it will restrict the current under fault conditions. I did say "Low current things" Car bulbs make great dummy loads for PSUs as well by the way. A 21W Stop lamp bulb draws just under 2A for example.
 13. I was in the TV trade in the late 60s and 70s. TVs back then had the chassis connected to one side of the mains supply, and there were still a lot of houses with 2 pin 5A sockets, so you couldnt count on it being the neutral side. Also you had to work live to fault find, so 'Pissers' were an everyday thing, both from raw mains and DC, anything up to 25kV. I stlll have the scars on my hands from high frequency EHT, which would jump out an inch and get you. ( There are two little round ones on the heel of my hand which I have been known to claim were where an Adder bit me ) I was always taught to keep one hand in my pocket, that way you wont grab anything earthed and have mains pass through your body. An isolating transformer is a good idea, and if your working on low current things like variable PSUs, wire a 100W bulb in series with the live lead. It wont make any real difference to the supply, but if you short it out, the only thing that will happen is the lamp will light up. Thats good for working on amps or anything else thats blowing fuses as well.
 14.
I have to pitch in here as I regularly use my 1974 HH IC100 and 1x15 cabinet for pub gigs, there is no hiss at all and I have never needed more volume. Cost effective too as I have used this setup since 1977, though the speaker has been replaced with a 300W Celestion since. Back on topic I also have a 1972 Hiwatt Custom 50 which is as loud and clean as anyone could need and sounds good too, I tend to leave it at home as it is awkward to lug around and too valuable to get knocked about.
I used a 74 ic100 guitar head for years, first with 2 X 1X15 HH PA cabs and then with a Fender 2X15 never had a problem with hiss and plenty loud enough. I have a Silverface Bassman 100 which I use occasionally with the same cab but tbh its only loud enough for smaller venues. Just too muddy when its turned up too high.
 15.
Not at all, you've missed my point (that everyone else understood I think?) They WANT the person who isn't bothered about the grammar, to THEM the stuffy grammar police can stay away while they just get on with making epic tunes man!
Which bit of " I can see your point" is confusing you ? We are both saying much the same thing. The bit about undesirables was said in jest.
 16. I used a Marshall SL100 in the 700s, with a 1X18 and a 4X12. Sounded ace but I did have to replace the output tranny after a couple of months. I replaced ir with a Laney one - easier to obtain as the Laney factory was in Brum - and it was fine after that.
 17.
The type of person they are looking for probably would not care about the grammar.
Why would they ? You make it sound as if 'That type of person' is undesirable. It really wouldn't bother me if the rest of the band couldnt read and write at all as long as they are contributing. I can see your point, I have been in bands where everyone else was, better educated than I am - doesnt say much for them - or felt somehow better, but once they realise patronising me wont work we got on fine. Where are all the PC members on here, and why aren't they writing angry posts sticking up for the uneducated, possibly dyslectic underprivileged ???
 18.
Spot on Your experience is different to mine, I've played with a few who are exactly the opposite. Exactly. And seriously, spelling errors, you guys got nothing better to do on a Saturday afternoon than spellcheck a band add for a bunch of kids?
This... Since when did you need good grammar to be in a band ??? Leave those kids alone.
 19. Not many Stones albums mentioned. So I'll say Beggars Banquet.
 20. Find somebody to play with, there are guitarists and drummers in the same boat as you, maybe in a different age group but so what, you dont have to gig, just play with others. Mind you, gig as soon as poss, dont wait till your really ready, jump in and get your feet wet - it really is the only way. A month playing with others is worth 6 in your bedroom, and a gig is worth 6 weeks in a practice room.
 21.
I cant decide between two - which are both by the same artist : Neil Young After the Gold Rush (1970) and Harvest (1972) are both stunning albums and I can also thoroughly recommend 'Live at Massey Hall' from 1971, which was only released officially a few years ago, and captures him between these two landmark albums, and playing what became classics for the first time live - Old Man' for example receives no recognition, but does warrant a nice back story introduction. He's a fascinating artist of the sort we'll never see again,a s the industry would never support him now if he were just starting out - uncompromising, principled, experimental and a very gifted writer of intensely personal songs, but played in an idiosyncratic guitar style, which others struggle to emulate : 'ragged glory' encapsulates it beautifully. Anyone who doesn't know his work should check him out. He has legions of long standing fans, including some high profile ones - Johnny Marr and Noel Gallagher to name but two.
I think Harvest has the edge there. Both albums are an aquired taste though, like good whisky or curry, people dont like it at first, then, if you havent slashed your wrists you get to love it.
 22.
Déjà Vu by Crosby Stills Nash and Young. Every track a winner.

Doobie Brothers - The Captain and Me.
Both great albums that I more or less wore out in the 70s. Anybody mentioned Whos Next ? [s] Or Fog on the Tyne. [/s] oops, Just realised you only get one - sorry.
 23. Feelgoods, Chess Masters. A truly excellent album. Cant understand why people knock the current Feelgoods just cos theres no original members, Time moves on. Class act if you see em live, and thoroughly nice chaps to boot.
 24. I have played at a few big ish venues, but always in a support act or opening act. Loved the feeling of being remote from the punters, high stage, proper dressing rooms and all that. Always a had great stage sound, with sound guys who really knew the stuff. As for having more room, well, with other bands gear on the stage, sometimes 2 other bands, then ours stuck in front / around it, theres never been all that much difference.
 25.
I've still not gigged since NYE...
Busy man. I aint gigged since the end of November.
