1. Unlacquered headstock, so you can add your favourite logo..... Family owned guitar building company. Yeah, Like Tata Steel is a one man band...
 2. Play with other people. play stuff you like.
 3. Got any lights near your amp ? Hummmmm or Buzzzzzz ? Theres a big difference.
 4.
There are people with degrees in engineering who are engineers by proffesion. It's their day job, they make all their money from it. But they don't have the proffessional qualification that a CEng does.
There are people who would prefer to call them Technicians. Although they are usually the ones with the qualifications.
 5.
If you were to earn your living by playing any musical instrument, even if you are sh*te at it then you are in fact a professional musician or pro'for short. end of
This. Cant see how it could be anything else really.
 6. Only skimmed this thread, dont have much time... No one uses their real name. So its likely some of us are pro's not wanting to be recognised.
 7.
A professional musician to me would be someone who is in a band or solo act that makes money from playing or creating music.
Also, depending on which thread/who you ask. Someone who always has a spare Bass, uses a music stand and plays what the crowd want to hear - even if its All Right Now.
 8.
With what? Dad Rock, innit?
At 45 years since it was released, it aint dad rock any more. Its more grandad rock
 9.
I agree.Having grown up ( theoretically) in the 70s with these cover band standards. I can't imagine ever wanting to spend an evening in the pub or throw shapes at a wedding to a bunch of middle aged blokes cranking out these songs again because "thats what people want". Why, because I play in bands, should I have any more of a discerning palate and aversion to hearing the same old stuff to the people at the bar/on the dancefloor. Surely quite a few of them are nuts about music too and that's why they're in a boozer with a live band. It strikes me as patronising and a bit arrogant to assume that people will be dissapointed if they go a whole evening without hearing Brown Eyed Girl or All Right Now. Oh and I can play both bass parts exactly as the original, but prefer not too.
I realised years ago that sad as it may be, you need to play them, just to show you can, and then still refuse to do it.
 10.
If the idea of still gigging and playing in your senior years is appealing to you ( If your 20 I don't really know how you would even know whats going to be appealing to you when your 60, if you make it till 60. Some don't). This might be 30-40 years out for many of you, I have one bit of advice. Choose the bands you work with very carefully, if you start developing a history of playing in bands that don't meet your requirements and always end up a disappointing experience chances are you'll put your bass to rest far before it's time. I am lucky, I don't know how I ended up with a 50 year history of what I can sum up in one word, "Fun!" Blue
This, Definitely.
 11.
So is it just the CL that does not work? I was thinking that the immobiliser was not working. Are you sure the transponder in the key actually works and its not a battery issue at all? My keys from a 2003 Alfa 147 ( the car has a lot of similarities with the Stilo) have a little light that comes on when the battery is low but I've never lost the link when switching the battery or when it stopped working. There's a guy on eBay who fixes Alfa keys, he may do the same for Fiats..?
Key had worked erratically for a few weeks then stopped altogether, replaced the battery with a good quality one, the LED flashes again now. You only have 20 seconds to swap the battery before the key goes out of sync, so if the battery is completely flat it loses it apparently.
 12.
500 Miles and Hi-Ho Silver Lining.
Never played either of them. But Stairway to Heaven, Brown Eyed girl and Wonderful Tonight did it for me. Had the Guitard complain cos I pulled a nudie calendar down from the wall and stood behind him pulling faces and leering at the pictures during the boring bits of Stairway (ie. almost all of it ) The fact that it was on the wall says a lot about the quality of the gigs that band got.
 13.
Me too. I first refused to play it in 1974 and haven't played it since. That song is the main reason I don't do covers any more.
Great minds eh ? Thats why I dont as well. That and one or two others.
 14. I just point blank refused to play Alright Now Its the height of naff.
 15.
When I had Fiats (10 in all) you used to get a little card with the code on (or was that for the radio code?). Alternative is to go to an Indy Fiat Garage who will not charge her Stealer prices. Just reading some of the threads on the subject, someone put in a new battery and left the keyt in the ignition switched on and it paired up itself after 30 mins..might be worth trying. I have Alfas now and they may be different but a flat battery does not affect the pairing process for the immob...
Its an old banger 53 plate with about 130K on t clock, so I wont be spending money on it. All works except the remote locking. yorks5strings limk seems to be for later models. Its been driven for weeks and hasnt paired yet, so that aint gonna work either. Have to admit, its been in the family about 6 years and other than all the bits of interior trim that have fallen off its been trouble free really. Who needs trim ? Great little car for a 1.2litre. I have even had my Hartke 4X10 Combo, plus a Bass in a hard case and 4 people in it no trouble.
 16.
Might it be like this? http://www.ebay.co.u...07277180/g.html
Great. I'll forward it to her and let you know if it works. I am forever in your debt mate. I wonder where you get the 4 digit code from though.
 17. My daughter has let the key battery run flat in her 2003 Fiat Stilo. I have replaced the battery but need to synchronise the key with the car. Last time this happened a ( in my Ford Cougar) a friendy mobile mechanic looked in a big book and told me the sequence. Something like turn the key, toggle the door switch 3 times then open the window and close the door while standing on one leg. I’m hoping theres a similar procedure for the fiat, to save me paying a main dealer hundreds to carry out a simple procedure, or paying a heel bar the same. Tried the interweb and forums etc but had no joy.
 18. Might have a chance if we knew what the show was called. Wasnt the sort of thing I'd watch usually.
 19. I saw it, I even posted the same question on here once. It was a Saturday nightmid 80s and the program was the one where contestants had to complete some sort of challenge i think, it wasnt Bruce Forsythe. The guy worked in a music shop somewhere in London iirc Dont remember Herbie Flowers being in it though.
 20.
The Grapes in Stafford is like that - park on the pavement to load/unload (the local constabulary don't mind), park on a road a five minute walk away, but on the positive side, they have a PA so they're forgiven.
Yeah, and you go back to your car half expecting an argument for parking outside somebodys house up that narrow road. House PA's Ok there, but the sound on the stage is weird with the PA overhead and, sort of a Bass trap isnt it ?
 21.
Great album.
Local lad to you as well. S'funny people just dont realise how much influence he's had. Most people under 50 probably never heard of him.
 22. Repeat When Necessary, an old Dave Edmunds album I hadnt heard in years. Grreat stuff to play along to.
 23.
Good to see an American (or Septic) getting to grips with the vernacular of the Mother Tongue. You will be reinstating the letter 'u' in written language next! You are, of course, quite correct that we are using definition number 5 of the word 'punter' - a shockingly high proportion of the audience are clients of prostitutes...
I've played that Huddersfield pub near the station as well.
 24. Nicked from somebody elses Facebook.
 25.
No. It's pure H[sub]2[/sub]O and it'll evaporate off reasonably quickly.
Wont it get sealed in by the shrunk tubing ?
