Hi mate I never really used the drop tuner myself, don't think I knew you could tune a bass differently then! However, I did fiddle about with it just before I sold it and got it to work. Now, this is dredging back a bit but I think I opened the d tuner and wound the micro tuners either right open or right down on the bridge (what a beast of a bridge it is too, a Steinberger liscenced design I think!) Then I think I tuned the string to D, shut the D tuner and used the micro tuners to then adjust it to an E. I think that's what I did anyway! GLWTS!

My guitarist mate has just told me he's got a tele on the way. Doesn't look any smaller to me! But then as long as he's happy. Seems to be a few others that are interested in this thread so thanks for contributing ideas (some even made me fancy a skinny stringer.) Jason

The school bass - how bad was yours?
redbandit599 replied to CamdenRob's topic in General Discussion
I think we had several instruments, but they were all kept locked away from the 1,300 kids.... Did see a double bass, just the once mind. Honestly can't remember actually doing any music in music lessons. The highlight was usually spreading Vicks Vapour Rub on the keys of the one badly tuned piano and watching the hateful old crone who was one of our music teachers run from the room due to her severe allergy to the stuff. She was a musical moron, asked to do an A to Z of composers I had Jarre for J, evidently I had made him up. She didn't like it when I said there were actually two, father and son, one composing film scores and the other a leading electronic music composer and would she like me to bring in some records? The other music teacher just applied lipstick for an hour and shagged a few 6th formers. -
I can't claim to have had many heads but I have an HD350 and it's plenty loud enough (when paired with either or both of my Neoline 210 or 212) for anything that I would think most people are likely to need. Really lovely amp, very transparent so you can just have your basses tone, or easy to tweak the EQ for a change. No amp GAS here! Also, I think that there is some formula of the order that in order to double volume you need to increase watts output x10. I'm preparing to be shot down on this as it's just a dusty fact from the dark recesses.... But, the gist is a 700w amp isn't twice as loud as a 350w. The luddite in me also likes that it looks like a 'proper' amp too, sorry mini amp fans but I personally can't get over the 'clock radio' aspect of them.

Sounds like the ideal approach to me. I recently played my first live gig in ages with a band that we've put together at work. We're from all over the country so practice was sparse but fortunately the studio we used to practice also had a big room with a stage in it that we could use for the gig. We paid for the venue but asked attendees to chuck in a bucket for charity, raised about £400! We did a bit of promo amongst colleagues who really had no idea what to expect and all had a great night. Relaxed for all of us but with the chance for some 'in jokes' and banter. There was about 50 people in. Next gig, is the now the Christmas party, with 300+ in DJs etc. Gulp!

+1 for the Lomenzo.

Thanks for all these sugegstions guys, my guitarist mate say 'Cheers' too! I've never seen one of those Nighthawks before, they look really cool, almost tempted myself (apart from the fact that my skinny strings skills are about as good as my singing...) The Phant -o -matic is rather smart too. They both look a bit traditional, but also distinctly different to the norm. Bit subversive, I like it..

Why does JAZZ seem to be so widely disliked?
redbandit599 replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Jazz is very useful, it's the term we in our band use to describe those completely bum notes we drop in every now and then . I can't pretend to know much about jazz, I've listened to the odd track and it's been fun. However most of the jazz bands I've seen (no major stars or anything just local gigs and a wedding or two) seem to comprise of really good musicians, who are in fact so good they don't have to play songs anymore. 'I know, let's have another 5 min bass/drum/trumpet solo while the audience chat amongst themselves shall we?' Did see a cracking jazz singer with just a sax player once in a ridiculously expensive jazz bar in Switzerland (think me and my mate had 2 1/2's all night), they were stunningly good, but they had songs. I suppose the point is that as soon as you step away from communicating something in a musical language that most people can/want to grasp you are always walking a thin line between success and derision. I'd go and see jazz in a jazz club again, that could be a fun experience, but if a pub booked a jazz band on a Friday/Saturday night, I'd probably leave. -
I think you are right about it being a wave body. Has a different head stock though. Much prefer the look of this to the ESP signature model.

Another +1 for the Zoom, mines an H2N.

Hi all Now, I'm no BC Rich fan, but Tom Araya's bass in the Seasons in the Abyss video just about has to be 'the' definitive metal bass (imho of course), far too metal for me ever to be able to carry off but I'd love to know what it is. Of course, it may sound like crap because you can't hear the bass in much of Slayers stuff. Doesn't seem to look quite like any other BC Rich so I suspect it's probably a custom, but hey, anybody know what it is? Bass effects pedal to make a plectrum sound like a finger
redbandit599 replied to danpelos's topic in Effects
I'd probably just try an eq pedal and roll off some of the top for a more fingery sound. Where you pluck the string will make a big difference too, I don't use a pick much but I'd imagine picking closer to the neck would help. -
Cheers all, I'll share this link with my mate. There is literally so many to choose from it's handy to get some ideas to narrow down options a bit. Jason

Hi all One of my guitarists is on the look out for a slightly smaller than usual bodied electric guitar. He currently has a couple of Squier (Silver Series I think) Strats, so ideally something to suit a similar budget. Any ideas all? Cheers Jason

I just last night ordered some headphones and Nux PG1, bit of a punt really (but I wanted to plug in my MP3 player and fancied the metronome function.) I found that a little squirt of contact cleaner solved it on one of mine.
