Cheers guys, think I have a trade pending on here... going back to a Ray!
Man, you go through some equipment! I'm down to 1.75 basses, a preamp, a compressor and a Markbass head. Have to get me a cab soon! All the best. P.S. Jazz (as in the music genre) is so so. Like all these things, you have to actually do it rather than just intend to do it!

Warwick Pro Fet IV Head £170 **SOLD**
WishICouldWalk replied to WishICouldWalk's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
I might take the 2x10 off your hands if you do want to sell it. Saying that, could I hook it up with my 4-ohm 4x10 and run it from my Profet head? I guess it would make the cabs 6 ohms...I think....
To be honest, it's the head I'm trying to shift. I only want to sell the cab if someone wants a whole rig. I think the formula is 1/R = 1/R1 + 1/R2 so 1/R = 1/8 + 2/8 so R = 8/3 i.e. 2.666666 ohms. Might be a bit low. Unless you run them in series in which case it would be 12 ohms I guess? Someone correct me! -
I have a Warwick Pro Fet IV head in Warwick rockbag flight case for sale. £170 ovno. Reason for sale - I've just bought a Markbass LMK. I also have a PRO 211 cab that I'm not trying to sell but would sell with it if someone was looking for a whole rig. Both for £260, collection in Brighton. Here are some pics: Thanks for looking
Gene is an awesome player but surely 70's influenced rather than 70's in origin? Otherwise you could include Julian Crampton as well?
Sorry, didn't answer your question - agreed, Perez is a modern exponent.

Crampton is a personal fave as well. To my ear, Perez is more disco whereas Crampton is more Jamerson influenced. Truth is, they're both such awesome players they can probably both do virtually any style. A question, listen to Incognito's Night's Over Egypt and MAW's remix. Which bassline do you prefer? I prefer the original - one of my fave Crampton basslines. Gary Crocket also does the style well - check out The Superphonics. If anyone's a fan of Paul Jackson's playing with the Headhunters et al really ought to check out the Bentzon Brotherhood. The bassist Kaspar Vadsholt has got the style totally sorted. His lines just put a on my face! Awesome. [post="0"] http://www.myspace.com/bentzonbrotherhood[/post]

Help with left hand technique??
WishICouldWalk replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Theory and Technique
Yeah, it's great - I'm able to groove properly again. Glad you're enjoying the Jazz, hope you sell the other pups. I think the extra inch of scale on the DJ takes a while to adjust to, I can see why you didn't want to be switching mid gig. All the best matey -
Help with left hand technique??
WishICouldWalk replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Theory and Technique
Nik, why d'you sell me such a nice bass - I've gone nuts on the practise front and now I've got numbness and tendon pain in both my hands and forearms... So, whatever exercises you adopt, go easy! -
bump
Zoom Effects box. Bought but couldn't be arsed to work out how to use it. Manual downloadable in pdf format from Zoom's website. I just gave it a go to make sure it works and I think the circuitry must be pretty good because the sounds are really clean. Would make a great headphone amp (for when you're getting on people's nerves). £20 + postage. I'm in Brighton. Local pickup would be ideal but I don't mind taking down the post office. Thanks for looking.
Would those less in favour of practicing scale forms suggest an alternative means of developing left and right hand dexterity? That's the only reason I'm doing them. I think to an extent, learning an instrument is a little like training for an athletic event - a shot-putter never lifts weights in competition, but the strength gained from lifting weights help to throw further. In a similar way, if you have the dexterity to play scale forms at a high tempo with good tone, it will make you sound better when your note selection is more deliberate. Does that sound reasonable?

Just bought Jazz Hanon. Don't think it's that great for bassists because it's got a lot of pentatonic runs that move up chromatically - tricky on the piano but not such a challenge on the bass. What I'm trying to do is take a phrase from a solo I like and then playing the same intervals on each degree of the scale it's based on. Hopefully this will be good for the technique but also be reasonably musical.
There is a jazz Hanon by Leo Alfassy (see amazon - less than £8). Not seen it up close but thought you might like to know...
You've just answered the question - you're into passive. I did have a USA deluxe 5 string that I had the preamp replaced with an EBS. The stock preamp was super trebley and harsh with it. The EBS is quite sweet.
I just have a think for the passive sound at the moment! The Marcus is awesome, but using passive mode most of the time. Why, you had problems with the pre-amp in the past?
Have or haven't? He first came to my attention on a Master at Work remix of Incognito's 'Always There'. Absolutely amazing playing.
Yes! I'm actually surprised other people have heard of him. Definately one bad mutha!
He does a lot of the New York disco stuff. One funky mutha.
