  1. We could come to some agreement, but it would mean you would have to sort separate insurance. Unfortunately, contrary to what people think amps are not covered for much more than £200 no matter what you insure them for with your courier. But I believe you can arrange separate cover.
  2. Gutted to have to sell this - but needs must. Its in excellent condition - been racked all its life. Its hands down the best all in one amp solution ever in my opinion. x2 channels - all with individual controls and blend controls, which can also be mixed together and dual ins and outs. This enables you to either run x2 basses (one on each channel) or one bass across both channels (individually or combined) as required. Comes with the following amp models, which are superb: markbass LM, markbass tube, trace elliot, gallien kruger, swr red head, ampeg svt, ampeg blue face, tech 21 vt, fender bassman, sunn T - and more. also has built in fx such as compression, chorus, envelope, delay etc all PC adjustable and very high quality. AND a built in tuner! The 500w is much much louder than any other class D ive heard - ive never had it above 12 oclock and ive done big gigs. AND ITS ONLY 3.2KG !! PRICE £495. Pick up Leyland, Preston, Lancashire. spec here: a few specs and videos here. http://www.markbass.it/product-detail/markbass-evo1/ https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=markbass+evo1
  3. Thanks - I'll give that a try tonight.
  4. My preamp arrived today. I've tried connecting it to bypass the preamp on. Ashdown evo iv, but can't seem to do it? I've tried all combinations of sends and returns, but no joy? The unit works fine as does the amp, and works in line fine, but can't seem to bypass? Any ideas?
  5. Yeh, maybe i put that across wrong..... it is great value, but for me you are paying for a lot of guitar stuff in there. If they made a bass only model at half the price id have one in a shot.
  6. I have a snark - very good for £20. however, i always have more than one tuner at a gig - either a rack tuner and clip on tuner, or 2 clip ons - that way i can gather if they are both right. so far so good - they both read the same. (or theyre both wrong! - but i dont want to think that!).
  7. one of my ideas is to have a 'bridge cable' to power my 6x10 (running the amp in bridged mode) and a normal speakon to run at 300w (in normal mode) to power a smaller cab, say a 1x15. That way one amp kind of becomes an amp suitable for different cabs without underpowering or overpowering them.
  8. Sorry - i just think its way too expensive for what it is.
  9. whichever you get, just remember to get one that has DI out, so you can always get a signal to the desk and pa, so volume wont be that much of an issue. id agree also that you need to get one with the same cable connections. Thats why the jack in on the Elf is a big fail for me im afraid.
  10. Hi all, Considering moving to fully rackmount for everything to keep things simple. Has anyone any recommendations for the following in rack form: 1) bass tuner. 2) bass compressor. 3) any multi fx? Thanks in advance.
  11. How do you find the sound with the crown running the pre amp (with it being class d)? Is it just ok? Good, or as good as a quality A/B style amp?
  12. Pics are a great help. That's going to be pretty similar to my final rig. Thanks.
  13. No, you need a differently wired speaking cable. Like you, I assumed you could just see it to 'bridged' on the menu, but that doesn't work.
  14. did you buy a different cable to run in bridged mode? thats the bit i fell for - itll let you set up bridged mode, but wont actually be operating in bridge mode unless youre using the correct modified cable as in the instructions.
  15. thanks, i'll be using either a tech 21 rbi or vtrm to drive them. ive gone this route so i can have my 'sound' in one rack (x2 preamps - x1 for spare - tuner etc) and then can choose what powered set up to take - either heavy duty amps for big gigs and my sealed markbass 610, or smaller backline where i can take a lesser amp and something like a 1x15. In the past ive tried a bass flyrig into a crown lightweight XLS amp into a barefaced super compact and it didnt have half the power that my markbass evo had, but that could have been down to either the flyrig not being power enough to drive the amp properly or the amp running on one single side. I asked about bridging but you need a different type of cable.
  16. Well, i knew i shouldnt have gone the Ampeg route - and been happy with what i had! ive gone and found and bought a vt bass rackmount. cant wait for it to arrive! There was just something about that ampeg tone i couldnt recreate - almost sounded like 2 or 3 amps doing different things but all working together - really sub low in the background, and a real chorus like spring to every note. Very musical rather than just bass like.
  17. Just a quick question for those of you using power amps to power preamps for live gigging... What type of amp are you using (class D, class A/B etc) and wake make? Also, and here is the main question - with most power amps being stereo and having a L and R input, and most preamps having one output - how are you connecting/using them?
  18. Can't wait to give this a try at volume. I have a 610 sealed can to try it though.
  19. You could buy 5-10 vintage v4 reissues for the price of a USA precision. I love my v4s to bits. BUT from what I can see, despite being called v4, the models are all slightly different. The blk standard is my main bass. Love it. Laqured neck. Very easy to play, loads of tone control and power. The v4 icon has an un laquered neck and different sounding pick ups. Definitely more vintage sounding. One thing I have done is put shielding tape all over the back of the scratchplate and cavities. Works a treat. Cost less than a tender for a huge roll. The blk was bought new for £230 (and I swapped for identical Wilkinson gold hardware). The icon was bought as new for £95. One weird thing I will mention is I have absolutely no idea how the pots are wired! I'm issued to one being volume, and one tone. These definitely are not that simple. The tone control definitely adds volume too the more you go to fully open. But it does add even more tone shaping possibilities. I've had an excellent USA p in the past, the finish was like a work of art. But I genuinely feel these v4s are more playable and have more character about them. And cost nearly 10 times less. If you had a range of them - with their different types of neck (laqured or unlaquered) and pick ups (modern or vintage), and you can buy straight replacement hardware in different colors, and scratchplates - you could create an awesome bitsa to your exact spec for next to nothing.
  20. thanks lozz - is that with everything else at 12 noon (or centre on the sliders) ?
  21. Afternoon all, Im have been tinkering about all week, and ive really got in to EQing my amp to find out just how many different types of bass sounds, and musical sounds can be achieved by playing with the 9 band eq on my ashdown evo iv. Its genuinely amazed me, having not bothered too much with eq before. However, im struggling to find how to create an ampeg svt "type" sound. I know you cant make it identical or as valvy warm etc, but does anyone know any eq settings that may work or help to get close? I have it in my head that its close enough, then when i A/B against a demo online its miles off! I have every type of music covered - rock, soul, warm, funk, 60s, slap, dub, reggae etc, but this one has me stumped! Im not looking to add in any pedals etc - just whats on the amp - 9 band eq, valve drive, compression and sub harmonic if needed. I know its not as easy as making one amp sound the same as another, just looking for some starting points and well known cuts and boosts. Its just a bit of fun for those into this kind of thing! Or if anyone has any other interesting eq settings to share feel free!
  22. Hi all, I'm considering getting a combo probably second hand for smaller gigs and gigs where we are travelling light in one vehicle etc. However, if need a few things: 1. Approx 300w (old school level). 2. Built in tuner. (Which must be good). 3. DI out. 4. Decent comprehensive eq. 5. Fairly compact. A 2x10 or 1x15. Otherwise I might just as take my full usual rig. Weight isn't that much of an issue, but I really don't want to be hoiking 50kg of trace around if I can help it! If it has wheels, that's great. Budget probably £200 second hand. Any ideas welcome.
  23. Im interested in this topic. However, must add .............. our practice room had an old batted ampeg 8x10 and svt3 pro. I tried the amp once before the band turned up and it sounded like the worst thing ever ....... dull, really low bass and growly, but in a speaker blown way, so i didnt use it. A couple of months later i left my amp head at home so had to plug in to the 3pro. Same sound, poor. Then the band kicked in and WOW! it fitted perfectly, plenty of power and lovely bassyness without that stacatto bass note sound that some amps can give out. It was very musical and just blended lovely with everything we did. So, id always see how it sounded with a band, rather than stand alone.
  24. My one tip for improving technique is to rack your treble on your bass right up! It exaggerates any sloppy fingering and helps you get the notes sounding full and tight as you automatically improve your left hand technique to make it sound good and not scratchy. Playing with the tone/treble rolled off can hide or disguise these errors. Try both ways, see if they make a difference or expose any issues. Song wise - anything like classic Elvis. When i had to learn that it really stretched me (i have an injured left hand, so i can only use 3 fingers) but brought my playing on a million percent. Its simple when youve got it, but those pentatonics etc really help improve you. I always found red hot chilli peppers really interesting for technique. Not the over complex stuff, but things like Under the Bridge, where the rhythm of the bass is completely out there, it took a lot of getting into the song to get that right. Lovely bassline, quite simple but a very odd way of timing that worked brilliantly! I always found Walking on the Moon helped me in a weird way that helped my lock in to the drums........ automatically id play the C,C,D ...... but then in my head id sing the high hat drum beat which would bring me back into the next phrase of bass. It helped me appreciate the drums.
