They should just add the end lids like this... Ie no need to alter the abm, just add 2 clippable ends on. Lightweight, easier to use, looks cool.
-
They do some out there things sometime ashdown. I can't work out why they'd market the new abm in that metal case with no protection. It's either to keep costs down, but then offer you the wooden sleeve at extra cost, or just a bit crazy. We know it won't last without protection with all those exposed knobs and sliders. I said it before about the RM - just add a clippable lid front and back and that would be miles better. Full protection, no need for a heavy wooden cover and very easy to use.

Its a fair point, everytime, and I mean everytime I try a big old solid state a/b type amp it is night and day difference to a small class d head. Cabs too. They just push air in that old satisfying way, that I've never really got with a lightweight cab - although I can see why people don't want to lug those about.
-
Without sounding daft.... Why didn't you put the cab on top of the combo?
-
I think chimike on here was off loading loads of trace gear a while back? Not sure what he still has left?

Yes, great price. Got an absolute bargain. I'd love to get a bit of stability in life (never happens) where I could collect old bass amps from the past and have them in a room or garage for little money. There'll be a time where a lot of the great amps from days gone by will be rare. Even now there's plenty of stellar bass amp manufacturers that have gone for ever (in their original guise - Eden, swr, Warwick, trace, genzbenz, Marshall etc and plenty who don't make transistor amps anymore.

Yes I remember reading the thread. I'm really into that and trying and restoring old amps. Great work! Just having another look at it this morning. It's so well done. The kick plate protector for the speakers, nobody is damaging that or the speakers, yet some cabs today have a cloth protector or flimsy cover, why? The purpose built caps on top of the amp to secure another cab, instead of just resting on top. Proper detail. The covering that's lasted 32 years. Yet some today don't last 12 months. Proper heatsinks on the back. What a great way to get a nostalgic 8x10 rig as well. I'd be amazed if I could find a trace 4x10 cab to fit for £100 or less. Incidentally does anyone know what 4x10 is for this cab?

Original paperwork too

Picked this up (literally and factually) today - but only just Trace elliot gp12 smx 410 combo What an absolute beast. I've always wanted one of these. All the bands in pubs when I first started had one. And I longed for one... Ended up with a 100w commando amp instead Its a lost art. Lost to history if we are not careful. THIS is how bass amps used to be. What has happened with today's amps????!! (I'm a tonex IEM user so take with a pinch of salt). Everything has been done with care, the best materials and purely sound based. However it's aesthetically gorgeous too. Its absolutely a work of genius and has been built with real pride. It's built like a tank. Built to last (it's 32 years old and everything still works perfectly). It has everything you need. Mute switch Gain stage and led guide to correct gain. Passive active switch Input blend dial from pure solid state to valve preamp. 12 band eq. Switchable. Switchable 3 stage pre shapes. Graphic level dial. Low compression dial High compression dial. Eq balance dial. This is the same as the supposed new angled tilt dials on amps. Effects level dial. Effects input dial Send return DI Output level Earth lift. And what a sound! In excellent condition with the originally paperwork and warranty too! Gees, this is a proper amp! Long live the old amps!

I stacked x2 markbass traveller 210s. Phenomenal sound. More than you'll ever need. Way better than a standard 4x10 shape. And easier to carry and transport. Recommended.

I've said for years - purple sparkle is THE colour!! No idea why companies don't do more models in that colour.

This jazz bass is a bit of a mystery. The person I bought it off bought it like this so he knows nothing of it either. Its an exceptional jazz bass. Looks and sounds gorgeous. It has had the following mods by the looks of it: 1. Metal nut. 2. New machine heads / Tuners. 3. New pick ups. 4. New active preamp. 5. Fender high mass bridge. 6. "Leo" decal. It has a gorgeous wood and is beautifully finished. The neck is one of the best shapes I've played. It's quite flat feeling and very easy to play. The machine heads have been changed, I can tell as one is slightly proud, but doesn't affect anything. The pickups are just lovely. Mixed with the preamp this gives a ridiculous amount of tones available. The front does a decent p sound. The bridge gives that classic jazz sound. The high mass bridge by Fender improves stability and sustain. The jack isnt on the control plate, it's in the body position. Its on the heavier side, I would say over 4kg. As I say, I don't know what this started as, or what it is, I just know it's a beastly jazz. Plays and sounds lovely, is super versatile and looks beautiful. I'm guessing but the price for the upgrades would have been expensive. Pick up Leyland Lancashire.

Yep I agree. I have uses us ones, mex, FSR, sire, roadworn, all range of other makes. This is as good as any.

Gigged this at the weekend in our 80s band. Great tone, versitile, fitted in the mix lovely, punchy and absolutely no aching or back pain afterwards. Great basses.
-
Does anyone use thing like Y splitters to separate the bands connections and the connections to front of house? Splitters seem sold out everywhere?
-
Well, here's a weird one... Thisnis a jazz I bought a bit ago - never seen or heard of these, or even where you'd get the logo. Looks cool though. Mojo without imitation.
-
I've regularly gigged Harley benton, squier, fenders, vintage.... anything. If it sounds good, then it's good enough. However... I do have to say for auditions for bands and jobs, I've always found turning up with that Fender logo really does help (although it shouldn't). To other people it's much more than just a logo. It boosts your chances before you've even played a note. Again, unfortunate, but just what I've found.

Tonex.

Picked one of these up recently. Yep. Very nice. Lovely smooth neck, lovely dimensions to it. Pickups sound lovely. Tone pot has a lot of width in it, plenty of tones. Tuners work great. Its lightweight. Yep. Very nice indeed. Absolutely no need for any higher priced precision.

Haha, yep, always happens. I've had load of synth pedals. All lasted about a month before being passed on again Still, I know I'll end up with one of these (however briefly)
