1.
I am wondering if Lakland are being very clever with this. The Skyline range is made of superb wood from Korea (I think) and then sent to the USA for the electrics, assembled and set up by hand. To me wood is wood and makes no difference where it comes from. So being assembled, set up, quality checked etc in the USA makes this pretty much an American bass to me. So this competes with the USA Fender range which is I guess their main competitor. However, Lakland also have what they call the USA Laklands which are no different to the Skylines in terms of electrics, assembly and setup apart from the wood used. Like I say, to me wood is wood and the Skyline range already uses superb wood so the wood used on the USA makes no difference to me. However, those who are rich enough to afford the real deal (pro players, collectors, hard-core fans and rich people) will buy the USA range and I imagine Lakland are making a nice profit on those sold. The quantity is small but the profit is great and if the Skyline range is selling well which is seems to be and competing with Fender, then they will be laughing all the way to the bank. They also seem to have a lot of artists on their books who play Laklands so they must be doing pretty well.
The hardware such as the bridge and the tuners is also different to the US model
2. If you play hard and really dig in go fender! I have a lakland bob glaub, sounds lovely and plays nice if you play softly , dig in and the bass chokes, been to a tech once to try and sort it - he lifted the nut and did the action - still loads of buzz when i play like i play - tried raising the action myself to no avail, currently at the moment adjusting the truss rod as the neck was dead straight so we will see what happens. With fenders - I don't know what it is, sometimes they build work is shoddy or the paint job might be a little bit off - but you can dig into them smash them around and they'll always sound great. It depends on what you want. if you want something to to tour the ends of the earth i'd say a fender. if you want something that sounds great and you do studio work i'd say lakland. I really want this lakland bass to work for me - other times ive played the more high tech pickup ones in shops they've been great! I don't know what it is about this bass but it doesn't like me! lol

5.
Nice As a matter of interest roughly what did it cost? I could probably look it up, but I'm a lazy b'stard
at the most i would say £650 i wanted something a jazz with a p/j setup... going to tour this one into the ground i think! really impressed with warmoth and hipshot parts - the sustain and natural tone is amazing. the fit on the body and neck is the best ive ever seen too!
6. Warmoth body and neck and scracthplate hipshot bridge and tuners wizard p/j combo big allparts and fender bits and piece ernie ball strings and tommorw, straplocks If i did this again, i would buy everything already finished to save time and hassle! Sounds cool through my little Phil jones practice amp, going to test it through my full orange rig tommorow
7. ahh cool thanks for that! makes sense!
8.
Does this help?
ive seen this but i cant find the caps they have there anywhere? any ideas thanks tho!
9. Which capacitors do I need for a 62 knob jazz stack knob layout....?
10.
All this stuff is pretty evil stuff. The best thing to do is get somebody else to do it... or if you are thinking about getting serious into it, get the proper gear - e.g. air fed mask and fume cupboard. If you are still alive and reading this, you are doing OK for now.
haha ok thanks dude! nah it's a one off project i'm doing! If i do it again i will be pre sprayed bodies. Thinking about all the 2nd hand smoke venues i played in before the smoking ban - theres a lot of nasty sh*t out there! Just speaking to my dad about it, and he told me about a time when he was younger he resprayed an mg with nitro in his garage with no ventilation or masks - he's nearly 61 now! lol. He's told me to stop worrying, as there are a whole lot of other things out there that are more likely to kill or injury me - like constantly touring in splitter vans/buses/airplanes and the alcohol consumption that goes with it!!
11.
Well said, although milk is meant to reduce the effects the thinners have on your brain, it'll still fry a few brain cells if you don't wear a mask. Polyester type paint as used by most major manufacturers needs to be sprayed in a spray booth, often with an air fed mask as it can do you some serious harm, but if you can buy it in an aerosol over the counter then you're normally reasonably safe, provided you take sensible precautions. Mask. Mask. Mask......
Ok - if i ever use nitro again - def going to be wearing a mask. Wish i had done mor research before commiting. question is will i live!!?? Spoke to my parents and they said i would most likely be ok - haven't experienced any dizzyness, drowsiness, coughing/shortness of breath from it... So is poly just as bad as nitro - what about spray varnishs etc as i have sanded and sprayed many things growing up as a kid! god knows what i have ingested! plus i live next to dual carriage way too!!
12.
Just out of interest, what does it say on the can for safety precautions?
It says that vapours can cause drowsiness and dizzyness. to spray in a well ventilated area and not to inhale vapour or spray. I think im going to spray the neck with something different lol - just wish i had realised i needed a mask before just to be on the safe side - then again smoking causes cancer and people smoke and inhale 2nd hand smoke everyday!
13. Is it any worse than other spray paints and aerosols? Didn't really think too much about it today until I typed it into google and read about it! Apparently it can cause high blood preasure, dizzyness etc.... Me and my dad have done 3 sprays on my jazz body over the last two days, we did it outside under an outside eating/bbq shelter thing, so im assuming ventilation was pretty good. I lightly sanded the first coat, outside with 600 sandpaper so there wasn't hardly any dust, and any that was was on the body which i wiped down with a tack cloth. People suggest to wear ventilation masks - which is probably a good idea - but is that aimed more towards people who use these sprays day in day out as part of their job? I am a hypercondriac by nature lol! But im more concerned about effecting my dads health - if it's just me, then it's my own look out! The body looks sweet tho!!
14. Hey I'm finishing an alder body with a flame maple top from warmoth. I've stained the body a light stain to help bring out the flame... but I've had to do this a few times now - as the first time I did it - i suddenly noticed strange writing on the body, so i wire wooled it down and stained it again and more writing was appearing - suddenly clocked on that it was the newspaper I had the body on - idiot - so wire wooled it down and dyed it again - This has left me with a finish i think is too dark now on the body and from the use of wire wool the body looks scratchy around the lower and upper horns/neck poclet area and at the bass of the body where the strap pin would be - How would you advise me to lighten up the finish and reduce the scratching marks on the body - using a fine grade of wire wool? I'm going to apply a clear nitro gloss to the body as well.... i'm wondering if that will hide any of these scratches as they seem to disappear when i wet the body. Please help - i'm new to this!
15. Hi, can sombody point me in the direction of a reliable company that can supply me with clear nitrocellulose laquer for my flame maple jazz body!? thanks in advance
16. If you want an amptone - go with a sansamp or similar... it wont be your amp sound. but then people watching won't know that, or even be able to notice the difference. it all depends on the size of room you are playing. in a small room you'll be getting quite a lot of the bass sound from onstage coming through.... in a big room, when the whole band is playing your bass will most likely sound just like bass... I've struggled with the concept of not having my amp sound out front, but have found - especially when you dont have your own sound guy its often safer to just give him a clean di or a sansamp - rather than worry about his competence at mic-ing a speaker and mixing the di and amp sound etc. Luckily 90% of the time I have my own soundguy - and it's pretty much agreed that between us the sansamp is most reliable and workable in live situations.
17. Lol - sh*t i only realized that just now - i was blinded my the solid gold.... Blackstar is indeed what i mean! Sorry, my heads been down in touring, my first two days off in a while where i've been able to clear my head and think! sorry!
18. yes the Darkstar has a valve in it. It's called solid Gold.. cant really do much about that!
19. I have a new guitar hero world tour complete band game for the Nintendo Wii which was given to me as a gift.... but I don't have a Wii although it was my original intention to get one, I now can't afford it and the box is taking up way too much room in my house. It's still box sealed and has never been used. It has one wireless guitar controller, wireless drum set, wired microphone and the guitar hero world tour game etc... £100 pm if interested It'll have to be picked up due to it's size - I live in the south wales.
20. Feel free to make offers on the pedals too..
21.
Only two days left on these now! finished on sunday!
Ending in 5 mins - tc electronic only on £39!!!
22.
Got a typo in the header there that got me excited for a second.
lol
23. Not sure i'm 100% if I'm going to part with these as I am sure they'll have a use further down the road... but how far down that road is another thing - so i thought i'd see if there is any interested in these. Blackstar Overdrive - the yellow three control one- has some really nice fuzz and amp tones to it. includes power supply. has a few scratches on it but nothing major and is in full working order - cost £89 would accept £65 plus p&p Solid Gold Parablender - this is a canadian boutique made pedal i bought from Vintage and rare guitars. It's basically an fx blend looper. It basically blends together an effects pedal with a clean signal or two effects together. Obviously I have used this in conjunction with the blackstar. cost £130 new but would take £100 for it plus p&p- in mint condition. Both these pedals were used as an experiment with distortion pedals whilst my band was supporting funeral for a friend on tour. Scott from the cancer bats actually put me on to the blackstars. I don't use them anymore due to being an EBS pedal artist. If you have any question feel free to pm me - please be patient tho as i'll be on the european silverstein tour towards the end of the week- so internet access may be limited. cheers.
24.
I posted this in the ebay links section and it got moved here.... no idea why? If you're interested in either pedal you'll have to bid on ebay. If neither item sells or a buyer falls through i'll put them up on here. The loop is only just one loop and a tuner out/mute... it;s made by red onion solutions
Only two days left on these now! finished on sunday!
