  1. Also, the main centre of luthiery in Italy used to be Cremona, in Lombardy - perhaps worth a visit to see if it still is.
  2. I'm originally from Florence, so I may sound biassed if I recommend moving to Tuscany! (And tell your wife I do feel for her re. the weather. This country is really, really lucky to have so much more going on for it, or nobody would stay who wasn't born here - at least until 31st October...) I left Italy the best part of three decades ago, so I don't know any Italian luthiers personally, however, I have carried out an instant search on google.it with these results: Biarnel Liuteria from Cascina (Pisa) Liuteria Russo near Turin Jaracanda in Milan Persegato near Vicenza in Veneto Ross Liuteria, in Milan, apparently headed by a woman!!! ( 😮 😛 ) I'm sure a more detailed search will find many more. Good luck with your move.
  3. I was in my early teens in the 70s and remember wearing flares, but not loons, whatever the difference may have been...
  4. I'm guessing it's short for pantaloons? Anyway, these.
  5. Billy Sheehan was at the show in 2015 and I had the pleasure to meet him. I hope he'll be invited back sooner or later. There are other big announcements to follow for 2019.
  6. Yeah, they seem to have added Vox to the confirmed list of exhibitors a few hours ago. I guess it's a small step forward...
  7. I've been informed that there will be further announcements /info this week, starting from tomorrow.
  8. I've emailed the team about this.
  9. The sound may also depend on whether you mainly bow or pluck. It might be easier to get a DB-like sound in the former case, maybe?
  10. Damn, I was about to correct my post but you beat me to it! GARY. Sorry.
  11. I don't know, Gareth. What I meant is that if you go on, say, the Sunday, it will make no difference to the programme whether you buy an advance ticket or an on the door ticket. I didn't mean to say that the programme on Saturday and Sunday is the same.
  12. You're referring to 'Advance Saturday' and 'Advance Sunday' on the tickets page, am I right? In that case, 'Advance' refers to the ticket, not the day. Advance Sunday simply means 'the price of a Sunday ticket if bought in advance', i.e. not on the door when you arrive at the venue on the Sunday. (That will be more expensive.) The Saturday and the Sunday programmes/events are exactly the same whether you buy an advance ticket or one on the door.
  13. As the great David Ellefson says in a Facebook post from yesterday, The cancer has no hope!
  14. If it's the same person I have in mind, yes, definitely! But nothing is confirmed just yet.
  15. Imagine if he had bought an Alikat aluminium double bass for me too, to justify buying his... 😮😎
  16. LOL if @Happy Jack and I followed the same pattern on each new purchase, we'd own even MORE basses that we already have! (His kids don't live with us and earn more than us, and I only 'do' cheap shoes... )
  17. Thank you Andy for reminding us that not all musicians' wives are idiots. 😎
  18. 👍😎
  19. Still weirdly upside down, though! 😂
  20. He also appears to play upside-down lefty, a major faux pas... 😂😮
  21. Update HERE.
  22. Not until tomorrow, though, by the look of it. The hosting company's status isn't promising for today. Meanwhile, Firefox still throws the usual message when I try to reach the LR site: Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead. :/
  23. Haha! Excellent topic. We're a two-bassists household, so we have a lot of bass gear! I can often be seen going around the house dusting those basses that are on stands, as opposed to in cases. Sometimes I wipe them down with a damp cloth, if they're particularly grubby! I include fingerboards and the 'underside' of the strings. I have a large makeup brush (I don't 'do' makeup, anyway) to dust pickups, bridges and headstock tuners. I keep an eye on the state of my basses' fingerboards and oil them when necessary, even if I'm not changing the strings. Same with cleaning the frets. On the basses I use most, I regularly check action/truss rod, saddle height, nut height (on the Warwicks) and intonation. I have been known to be OCD enough to tighten a tuner's screw if that tuner is slightly looser than the others. I have changed hardware on a couple of basses, and turned an electric upright from righty to lefty, but I don't feel confident enough to change pickups, or to do heavy duty cosmetic work such as sanding down the lacquer and changing the body colour. I'm @Happy Jack's strings and general setup tech... 😎
  24. Both hacking and a virus were mentioned in previous posts, but that message from Mac doesn't mention either. We have been assured that LR itself hasn't been hacked or infected.
  25. This is what has been discussed in various Facebook groups:
