1. Hello! Just a quick post to say that I have released a new album today on Bandcamp! It’s called “IF” and it features 9 tracks improvised live as part of a streamed internet concert earlier this year. All tracks are 100% improvised and 100% solo bass guitar – there are no overdubs, just a tiny bit of editing and audio tweaking. You can download the whole album, or any tracks you fancy, for free or can pay any price you want. You can find it here: Alun Vaughan - If Cheers Alun
2. I'm not a huge fan of the lyrics but musically I really like that track. So there
3. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
4. I use the same as Doddy, I've tried the RC2 and it's a cool little pedal but I think trying to do everything with one switch would get too confusing for live use ( for my tiny brain anyway!) Cheers Alun
5.
Like this?
Yes, but with linear rather than audio taper. Thanks anyway. Cheers Alun
6. Hi folks. Having tried the sites listed in the wiki, and several others, does anyone know where I can get a B50k mini pot, ideally with a solid shaft and a centre detent please? Had the helpful reply "we don't do them and none of our suppliers do" from one site this morning who will remain nameless. Cheers Alun
7. How high/low to you hold your bass? If it's low then the wrist angle makes using four fingers high on the neck very tricky. May be worth raising your bass or lifting the angle of the neck to make it more comfortable. Cheers Alun
8. Sounds good If I'm not playing I will try and get there Cheers Alun

Lexicon MX200

Isn't the Lexicon purely a reverb unit as opposed to a multi-FX like the GT6B? Lexicon reverbs are generally fantastic, although haven't tried that particular one on bass. Cheers Alun

Silent Night

Hi folks. I have uploaded a quick solo version of Silent Night if anyone fancies a listen.. http://alunvaughan.bandcamp.com/album/silent-night Merry Christmas! Cheers Alun
12. "So What" by Pink is a gooden drunken singalong and has a fun riff to play Cheers Alun
13. Hi all. Just wondering who else has used this book? I've been using it for a while and it's made a huge difference to my slap technique . I bought mine in hard copy a while back but there is also now a downloadable version at the Bassline Publishing website: http://www.basslinepublishing.com/downloads.html (the hard copy is also reduced in their Christmas sale) Definitely recommended for slappers, from beginners to advanced players. Cheers Alun
14. Quick update - for any copies sold this weekend, I wil not only donate the proceeds to the MS Society, I will also donate £2 myself to Children In Need
15. I've always liked Ibanez basses ( and guitars - I went a bit loopy and bought an original floral Jem earlier this year which is beautiful) and am shortly going to get an SR506BM. Had a good go on one in Dawsons in Manchester after BassDay and loved it. The mid switch seems well voiced, as does the EQ in general, and it felt lovely to play. Only reason I didn't grab it there and then was that my local dealer had promised me a very good deal on one (but couldn't get one for me to try as the distributor won't send basses on sale or return apparently). Cheers Alun
16. I now have a little website for the album where you can stream the whole album for free, watch some silly videos and read some quotes about the music including comments from Bryan Beller ( bassist with Steve Vai, Dethlok, etc) and our very own gjones. Cheers Alun
17. I was there today too and it's a great show. Not a bad amount of bass stuff, especially amps - Hartke, Ampeg, Markbass, TC Electronic, Orange and really not that loud amazingly. Stuart Clayton has a Bassline Publishing stand with some great discounts on books too. Manring was amazing today and both he and Joe Zon are such nice people too. Zander Zon was also there doing the piccolo bass thing later in the day but only caught a little bit as it coincided with JPJ's appearance on the Mansons stand. I'm sure tomorrow will be equally great. Cheers Alun
18. Thank you very much The bass is in standard 6 string tuning BEADGC for everything except Nomad, which is BDADGC as I wanted the low D drone, and The Featherplucker's Son is standard tuning but with a capo at the 4th fret Cheers Alun
19. Hi everyone. As you may have guessed from the title, I have a new album out for download right now! It’s called “The Kindness Of Strangers” and it consists of some music recorded at the Cafe Noodle streaming festival on Sept 18 2010 and a couple of studio recordings. It’s mainly solo unaccompanied 6 string bass, with one exception, and consists of eight originals and a cover of guitarist Matt Stevens‘ “Big Sky”. The download also includes an 8 page PDF of liner notes and exclusive artwork. The album is available to download in most formats from Bandcamp for the princely minimum sum of £4.50 (you can of course pay more if you wish!) and all proceeds will be donated to the MS Society to aid in multiple sclerosis support and research. I know a few people who suffer with MS to varying degrees and know what a worthwhile cause this is. You can stream the entire thing for free and download at http://alunvaughan.bandcamp.com/album/the-...ss-of-strangers These are a couple of quotes from reviews it's had so far: "The album is a real gem, sparkling with his not inconsiderable musical skills. For what a comparison is worth, Alun’s playing reminds me a little bit of the solo bass work of Colin Hodgkinson." "This is not a bass chops showcase album, and while Vaughan often enough lets his prowess on the instrument show, the album is mainly a collection of nice solo tunes, which he happens to play on a bass guitar – thus nicely shipping around that dangerous cliff that lurks in instrument virtuoso album water” “give the album a listen, you won’t regret it” Cheers Alun
20. Another +1 for Reaper here. Have been using it for the last couple of months and love it.
21. I have a red Ashbory although I haven't used it a huge amount recently. Here's an improvisation from earlier this year: http://alunvaughan.bandcamp.com/track/rubber Cheers Alun
22.
Jeff Hooper Swing Easy Big Band - I love playing with Jeff's band as he always has the best players around & the arrangements really stretch me to my limits.
Didn't realise you were playing with Jeff I'm on the promo DVD for that band and have played quite a bit in his trios. Such a great talent.
23.
Both are very good at what they do. For more fx go with the zoom. Neither would be suitable as a dedicated fx board as patch switching is limited and both suffer switching lag.
That's odd - I've used the Zoom live for a couple of years and never had any trouble with lag. IIRC Zoom claim it's about 2ms and I've never had reason to doubt it.
24.
Alun I was there....! I don't know what you look like so couldn't say hello (otherwise I would have. I had a long chat with Jimmy at the Ronnies gig and he put me on the guest list for Cardiff (by chance I was visiting my brother who lives about 400yds from the globe). He's (Jimmy) a really lovely guy. I thought the sound was a bit duff in Cardiff but they coped with it amazingly well and the crowd in Cardiff gave them a hell of a lot more back than the Ronnies crowd. I thought the ensemble playing was fabulous.
The drums were a bit harsh but once I stuck my earplugs in it sounded great I ran into Jimmy outside briefly and said a quick hello without making too much of a gibbering tit of myself!
