1. Thanks Marc, I've ordered some silver slaps so I'll see how I get on with them. To be honest I have to like them as I can't afford to keep changing strings. I have a decent e bass that cost less than these! Will let you know how I get on and no doubt ask some more questions! Cheers, Dan
2. Thanks Rev. I take it there no middle ground of something ok for slap but not amazing and still good for pizz?
3. Hi All, I back for some more DB advice! I'm considering changing the strings on my 3/4 DB. The guy I got it from was a Jazz player, so the bass is strung with some unidentified steel strings at what seems to me a fairly high tension. The bass also has a fairly high action - about a fat fingertip high at the end of the fingerboard. Seems quite high to me for the tension in the strings, but I've left at that as all the guides say that's about right for rockabilly style. My bridge is the non adjustable type. So after a few months with it, struggling to learn to play roackabilly, rock n roll and blues, I'm fairly sure I need a change of strings. I'm only going to play those styles, so the consensus seems to be silver slaps as the go to low tension for both pizz and slap styles. Am I right? Anyhting else to consider? As a DB newbie am I alright changing strings myself? I'll look up some guides before I do it obviously but is this usually DIY or normally done by a luthier? Grateful for any advice Dan
4.
It's very much like the bassline in "Can't stop", yes... Same progression and feel, just varying the phrasing. Tch tch
Thanks mate, you've saved me that going round and round my head!
5.
.Attention - Charlie Puth The song is somewhere in the charts, I don't really like it. But that bass! Nice and funky, ridiculously catchy. Sounds like it has an octave down effect on it?> For those who don't know the song listen to a guys cover here Anyone know if it's sampled or original?
That sounds a lot like a RHCP baseline but not quite if you know what I mean? Just can't think what the track is.
6. I just fired up the pc editor for the first time today. You can definitely see and tweak the artist tone prints with the pc editor.
7.
It's possible to save settings and also keep them saved in the editor, like saved 'patches' but there is no option to share (yet, who knows what the future holds!)
Bugger. That means I'll have actually do some work instead of nicking everyone elses patches:-(
8. I've got one of these but haven't delved into the pc editor yet. Is it possible to save and share settings?
9.
Well, I did check with GK - who said there is no other way to trace the serial number, without the sticker. Absolutely no other distinguishing features. There is some soft glue residue, but does not appear to be any scratching or other signs of forced removal. Spoke to the pawnshop, who seemed broadly sensible and confirmed they did reasonableness checks at time of purchase, and do keep ID records of everyone they buy from. So I guess I will keep my posts asking around for any stolen MBF500's..... if nothing shows up, think I'll keep it.
I guess the problem is even if someone had one stolen, how would they prove it was theirs without any distinguishing marks?
10. I've got an RH450 with 2 RS112s. It's a very useful rig, especially if you have the floor board for channel changing and mute/tuning. As has been said they are made to work well together. You can run 3 rs cabs which is a bonus. I find the amp has a lot of inbuilt compression, even with the compressor and tubetone off. Sometimes you want a really open tone and I just can't seem to get that. This seems most noticeable when using my Stingray and also the Sire V7 on active. Sounds good with the passive P and V7 set to passive. Then again there is lot of demos and big name gigs being played with these amps and they seem to be able to get the open tone, so maybe I just haven't found it yet or it's my playing. These seem very good value now, so a definitely a good value amp. To be honest I've been thinking of a mesa walkabout, but the RH is so convenient, it's a one stop shop in a laptop bag.
11. What drop tuning are you trying to get to? I think the rule of thumb is that you can increase your string gauge by 1 for every semitone you drop. So if you use 100 gauge, increase to 110 for a D tuned bass. You might even get to a C tuning that way. What is the guitar player doing? It seems to me that he is going to have bigger problems. ACDC uses a lot of open chords that aren't going to sound right transposed. Another way would be to play up the neck with an octave down pedal applied.
12.
A lot of sellers end their listing like that when someone has made a cash offer and so avoid the fees...
Oh well... I did report it, I was hoping the contact from eBay made the buyer take it down befroe he was told to. Still, I would hope most people looking for a Ray would see that wasn't right and at least ask some questions.
13. Found the likely origin of that copy. Chinese fake with an upgraded bridge? https://m.dhgate.com/product/excellent-feedback-music-man-ernie-ball-stingray/392263203.html
14.
This listing was ended by the seller because the item was lost or broken
Well that's good, at least noones getting ripped off today. The seller has sold a few guitars so can't claim ignorance.
15.
And what is it covering??? What is going on with the back of the body?
I know! Could have at least had the decency to cover up the non-standard bridge, or at least the holes where the standard one came off.... oh no there aren't any. Its the only EBMM with a factory non-standard bridge....
16. Obvious Fake EBMM Stingray 5. Pretty horrible bridge cover on there too - who would do that! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272673851678
17. Thanks for posting that! In the brief test in the first few minutes I like the SPB1 the best, but that could be bias from my ears as that's what I have in my 50s P and I'm really happy with it. Also liked the 2 Antiquitys and the SPB4 in the first test. In the second more detailed test I only liked the SPB1, weirdly I didn't like the SPB4 in the detailed test, which is good really as I can just be happy with what I have!
18. Can I buy this on a guaranteed buy back scheme? Meaning I buy it now for 220 and when you regret selling such a great bass you buy it back from me for £250? Say in about 2 weeks😎 Anticipating your response I say good luck with the sale regardless!
19. Bought a pedal from Paul. Really easy transaction and a really honest straightforward gent. Pleasure doing business. Many thanks, Dan
20.
I would chose this vintage https://musicsquare....ric-guitar.html But this one is also interesting https://www.sweetwat.../detail/G5425BK
I really love those Gretches, could easily have gone for one of those! Now I actually have a Les Paul, in fact a better one than I could have hoped for, I really need to stop gassing! Especially as I am not even a guitar player! And I'm meant to be thinning out the ones I do have.....
21. Just traded my Darkglass VMT for Dan's B3K. Couldn't have been easier. Top bloke and go to yarn about Stingray's to boot. What more can you ask for?
22. I put a Fender Jag mute on my PB50 ala the Sean Hurley sig. Works well but I need to replace teh foam with a soft variety as the jag foam is too hard for bass really. You have to drill a half inch hole 35mm in depth into your bass though, which is why its on a harley benton and not a fender!
