1.
Laklands feel a good bit wider than Sire to me so I'm surprised at those measurements. Fender Roscoe Beck V is the widest I've experienced if you have the reddies...
According to the specs the Roscoe neck is 47.6mm. So a bit wider than the Sire, same as a precision v. It might be worth a look at the precision V given it should be in a shop somewhere.
 2.
I'd say Laklands. Their 5 strings are 19mm spacing and 1.81 (45.974mm) inch nut.
That nut width is still too narrow for me. I quite like Sandberg's but they have a 45mm nut too.
 3. Hello fellow basschatters, I'm looking for suggestions for production (ie not custom) 5 string basses that have a wide string spacing at the nut and at the bridge. I've searched the forum and there are a few threads about 5ers with wide bridge spacing but don't mention the nut. I've currently got a Sire V7 5er and its great, However my fingers get cramped up on the A-D-G strings on frets 1-4. The bridge spacing isn't too bad at 18mm, but ideally I think I would prefer 19mm. The Sire has a 45mm nut and 18mm string spacing bridge spacing for reference. I think in an ideal world I'd want 50mm at the nut and 19mm string spacing at bridge. Obviously I could go to Maroooshchuk and get exactly what I want, but I'd rather try this out on a bass I could try out new in a shop or even better pick up used for an extended play. I might even dabble in building/making one myself if I can't find someting that fits. Anyone got any ideas, not too worried about budget either low or high but it has to be a production bass so that will keep it down. Searching is kind of infuriating as many manufacturers don't list the bridge spacing, nut width or either! Some candidates so far: Squier Deluxe Jazz V (unknown bridge spacing) http://shop.fender.com/en-GB/squier-electric-basses/jazz-bass/deluxe-jazz-bass-active-v-5-string/0300575500.html You'd think you'd be safe with a Precision V but actually the nut width is only 47.6mm - still could be worth trying: http://shop.fender.com/en-GB/electric-basses/precision-bass/american-professional-precision-bass-v/0194652776.html
 4.
Cheers, ill give that a try. It does seem like nearly all the Tone print patches are for slap bass. I can understand how useful compression is for that style, but even so.....
I'll be interested in how you get on, keep us posted.
 5. I not much of a tweaker, so I don't use the editor, just the tone prints. So far I've found Nathan East's toneprint 'Captain East' to be a really good all rounder, both with pick and fingers. It's quite different depending on where the knob is set, but approx 11 o'clock suits me fine. In fact I've found that in addition to the compression, the East toneprint has a really nice clean 'preamp' sound - quite suprising. In would be a good starting point for any tweaking you wanted to do from there.
 6. OK, its not not HH or 4 string but I'm pretty sure its a Bongo alternative: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-Rbxjm2-John-Myung-Signature-/202010643192
 7.
Close to owning my first ever Fender but missed out with 2 seconds to go dammit!
Hate it when that happens. It wasn't me by the way. Don't worry though, when someone realises how much it costs to get to the island in August it may be back up for sale...
 8.
From '75 on Fender started using bullet trussrods on jazz basses untill I believe end 70s.
Cheers, it just doesn't look like others for sale I've seen for the same period. Ie looks too big and fills the bullet recess completely, but it's probably just a replacement truss rod nut I guess.
 9.
Looks legit to me.
What's the story with that trussrod bullet though? Did fender make ones like that, or is it some kind of extension? It looks from the pictures like it doesn't have the recess like a fender neck normally has.
 10. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/253081842406 Is this a genuine 78 fender jazz? I'm no expert at all but the headstock looks slightly too new, and the truss rod bullet looks wrong. Fake or worth a flutter?
 11.
I thought the early 90s Epi were meant to have quite poor pickups?
I don't know about the 90s ones but the 89 epi I got a few posts above had a really weak bridge pickup. Replaced it with a irongear and it made the works of difference. The neck pickup seems good but I'll probably get another irongear in the neck to have a matched set.... if I ever get round to it.
 12. T just bought my DHA pedal. Couldn't have been easier, he even sorted the courier! Buy or sell with confidence.
 13. Sold pending the usual.
 14. I bought this last year to use as a preamp into a powered speaker to use as an old school practice amp, it worked really well for that. Be aware this unit is cheap because it has some issues. The DI is noisy as hell and unusable as is the headphone amp/socket. Maybe someone with an electronics bent could buy this and sort it out. I don't think the main signal line is noise free but it seems pretty good for playing into an amp, maybe not for recording without a gate. Price £45 + postage (probably about £5 or less for UK) Any questions please ask Previous sale page here for more info. 15. This is what they have in Enfield basses. I love the idea but it's a little pricey if all you wanted was the P sound. https://www.sims.guitars/superquad-pickups PS. Great looking bass, what did the body start life as, or is it custom?
 16. https://marksdiaries.wordpress.com Potentially some good reading in there.
 17.
Funny, it is exactly the opposite for me with Muse I like their first album, it sounded new and different, now they seem to do the same identical stuff over and over.
I thought it was just me. Bought the debut album back in the day, disappointed by the samey rest.
 18.
All the ads on that site have the same formula; they apparently don't allow plain direct links. It's simple enough to get around, however, so shouldn't be too much to the detriment to the posters, as long as the readers are aware of how to see further. Good old Google, eh..?
I guess so. If it's like round here, there are probably more local ads on Facebook groups anyway, where the back info is front and centre.
 19.
http://milwaukeerock...s.asp?xid=70885
I found that too - with one click. Clearly where Blue got the text from. One more click (on the email address supplied) gets me to the band FB page, with all sorts of info on the band (including video) and its current members (won't go into all that detail here but you could click through to their personal FB pages, work details etc). spoiler - could be a married couple in there... Another click and I see their reverbnation page https://www.reverbnation.com/loveliesbleeding1 Which gets me even more info like upcoming shows, demo tracks, etc. I don't really get the need to go into infinite kremlinology of the text of the ad itself when there is all this info about. Bit of internet sleuthing training for Blue required Equally its baffling why the band didn't put these links in their ad (unless the site blocks it) as it makes it look like they don't have any material or an online presence when they clearly do.
 20.
I only had the Bassmax and this slotted in the wing slot (most people keep this on the E string side) - if you are getting a luthier to fit a new bridge and end pin just get them to fit the pickup - the pickup wants to fit snug but not murder tight. There's probably info on the K&K website as well. I used to just slacken the strings a little before making adjustments on the bridge - never any dramas but jut keep an eye on the feet of the bridge and they remain flat on your bass.
Thanks Paddy, My pickups appear to be a set of these: http://kksound.com/pdf/doublebigtwin.pdf Probably superglued on, but there seems to be hope the can come off! http://kksound.com/support/trouble/removepure.php
 21.
You're not alone. I've not been there in ages. I have gone in a few times this week. It's like a graveyard. It's dead compared to how it used to be. Scott must be hoping this will get it up and thriving again.
Its interesting isnt it, I haven't been in there much for lack of time, but the times I had it looked active enough. But I see what you are saying is backed up by the stats. I wonder how many members just do the courses and don't participate in the forum? To be honest its probably a better use of time and the courses have multiplied in the past year. Its a tough business decision whether to spend more effort on attracting new members or keeping the ones you have, but on the giveaway front I know it annoys many (ie me!) that Scott gets so much gear but hardly any gets distributed amont the members, it just mostly goes to anonymous youtubers who pay nothing and never will. I think I've only seen one member who joined because he won something, and come to think of it I haven't seen him again so he might have just done the free trial! Maybe if people knew that SBL members had a good chance of picking up some gear that would be a better incentive to join than a one in a million chance on youtube? Hopefully Scott keeping 3 of these Sires for the members is at least a start in the right direction.
 22.
Silver Slaps are a good tension all round string for rockabilly/roots playing - I tried countless other sets and migrated back to these. I did also enjoy Blast Cult Low Life's. An adjustable bridge would be a great investment and it's surprising how low you can go and get a good slap with the right technique.
You are probably right. I might give a local luthier a call and see what it will cost to get one fitted. I could probably do with a new longer end pin as well so I'll ask about that at the same time. A couple more stupid questions 1. I'll have to get the K&K pickups moved over to the new bridge - how are they fixed on? I'm sure a luthier would know how to move them, but just in case how is it done? Any specialist gear/glue? 2. Using an adjustable bridge: How much do you need to slacken off the strings to adjust the bridge? I'm foreseeing some comedy moment here where I slacken off the strings and the bridge falls over and the sound post etc....
 23.
Just fitted some Roto RS4000s on my bass this weekend, great slap tone, really easy to play and a lovely pizz tone too.
I had a look at those, the reviews were a bit marmite whereas the silver slaps are mainly positive, same price so for safety's sake went with the innovations.
