1. A late night bump! Sadly I do need this gone, and as such is now up on Gumtree too.
2. There's something about the gold that just sits right with me. There really are some lovely examples here. I always wanted white with a gold guard, so I set out to put one together from parts, and in the end decided to stick with the blue. It's now my go-to bass, and the blue is definitely staying.
3.
Does make me wonder if you could add a hinge to 2 pedaltrain nano's
Would that not be roughly the same size as a PT Mini, or is it more the storage factor you're thinking? Would be interesting to see though.
4. Never tried Mark Bass, but I've been using my BH500 for three years now. I like it, but I find that the amp makes things sounds a little too processed sometimes. I've never really been able to find THAT sound that I'm looking for. But I think tube is that way to go for what I'm looking for.
5. It's Gibsunday! Except this is a Tokai, and it's cheaper! Make me an offer perhaps?
6. Here's the most recent picture I have of my rig (minus pedalboard), taken the other week at a local festival. The blue really pops in the sunshine, which I quite like! I have a plan for the next build, but it'll require a bit more work than this one. Best start asking around for a router!
7. I've been using a Peavey 410TX for 3 years now. It got it along with a 1x15, £100 for the pair. If you can pick one up cheap, you won't be disappointed. They're just a bit on the heavy side, but it's nothing 4 casters can't sort.
8. Dropping this to £48, posted! The newer model costs £62, so save some money and grab this instead. Very small, compact and stylish tuner.
9. Dropping this to £180 May also be able to work out shipping, will keep you posted.
10.
Hello! I've just got myself a Polytune Mini Noir, and have realised I've no use for it. I've lifted it out of the box, but hasn't been used or even plugged in. No marks whatsoever, as you would expect. It's a great little tuner, but it's not going to get used. So rather than faffing about returning it, or letting it gather dust, one of you is welcome to buy it. £48 posted to your door, tracked. Or if you want to come and collect it, I live in Lincoln, in which case I'll drop the price to £45. Not interested in trades, sorry. Thanks for looking! - Anthony.
Hello! 11. Hello there! Up for sale is a Tokai TB48 Thundebird copy in vintage white - £180 Sadly I've decided to part with this bass since I've had it since February, and it's pretty much just sat on the rack not getting played. It's in very good condition, with only a couple of cosmetic issues which are pictured below. The first being a very small ding on the lower horn, and the second being a few scuff marks on the back. These obviously make no difference to the way the instrument sounds or plays. Since owning this bass I have given it a good clean, fitted brand new Ernie Ball strings, and given it a good setup, of course that being entirely subjective. The bass is in full working order, absolutely no problems. I'm only selling it because it's just not the bass for me. It's never been gigged, and since owning it it has only left the house twice. Once to a practice session, and the other when I moved from my flat into my new home. It's just not comfortable for me to play, and I would like to sell it on to fund some other purchases. I'm asking for £180, which I think is quite reasonable since I've been quoted more. I'd just rather it went to a basschatter who'll actually get a good kick out of it, opposed to sticking it on eBay, etc. Pictures: If you would like any more pictures/info please do let me know. You're also welcome to come and try the bass out, I'm in Lincoln most of the time, but can also arrange to meet in Ollerton, near Mansfield. Please note, I have no means of posting this bass, so it would be collection only. Thanks for looking! - Anthony.
12. Thanks a lot everyone Much appreciated. I've plenty of ideas, but sadly a severe lack of funds for anymore builds at the moment. Will definitely have to sort something for the not so distant future though
13. Hello people of basschat! I've been playing for 6 years now, almost 2 of those I've spent in a band, and recently I've decided I'd like to expand my options tone-wise at least. I had a quick poke around the internet, and had a chat with some bassists from the other bands at gigs I've been to and played and such, and there are plenty of them rocking either a few little stompboxes, a multieffects unit, and then there was this one guy who used to play guitar in a band, and had one of them mahoosive three tier boards completely packed with effects which he's just been using for bass. And I thought to myself, I want some of that action. So I went onto eBay, and grabbed myself a couple of pedals, just to begin with, and I plan on expanding further! So far I've got myself a Woolly Mammoth clone (would kill for a proper Z.Vex model!), a Behringer chorus, and a really cool killswitch from Vein-Tap. All of this is now mounted on my newly purchased Pedaltrain mini which I grabbed from Thomann for a substantially lower price than UK retailers. I think it's on sale still, if you're interested. I love that it comes with a bag, and it feels pretty sturdy too, which is great. Has a decent amount of storage, and I reckon you'd get some pretty tall pedals inside if you really needed to. The board itself feels quite strong, and whilst I haven't made the best use of the space, you'll actually get quite a few pedals on here in my opinion. Since I only have three, I've spread them out nicely for now. But I do plan to add a delay and a reverb of some sorts. Hopefully a tuner and a Ditto Looper in the future too. If I rejig everything and cable properly it should all fit. I've used pedalplanner.com to test fit, and it should be alright I reckon. Here's a couple of pics of the pedals. Currently, I'm using 9v batteries, since I don't want to drop about £80 on the Volto powersupply if I don't actually like using effects. It'd probably be cheaper to just grab a Zoom B3 or something instead. So batteries will do for now, and at least it eliminates the need for any extra cables at the moment. And since I'm not using the board all that often at the moment, they shouldn't go flat too quickly. I adore that little killswitch. Nicely painted, requires no power (unless you want to use the LED), and it's so very simple and affordable. The Wooly Mammoth clone makes quite a bit of noise so it's nice to shut it up when I need to. Not sure if that's because it's a clone, or if I'm using crazy amounts of fuzz! If I'm being honest, the supplied velcro isn't all that strong. I'tll do, and it holds the pedals on, but they do tear off pretty easily. So I may have to get some stronger stuff in future. Plus I've not cut it all that straight and it bugs me a little, haha! I'll also be honest in saying I wouldn't pay £70 for the board. I didn't mind paying about £50-something, which feels more reasonable for what you actually get. Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely product, and it's a good quality, but I'd probably feel better just knocking something together out of wood rather than paying the full price. It should see plenty of use though, so we'll see how I get on. Just thought I'd share it with you, as well as some first thoughts. Any questions, feel free to ask and I'll gladly answer! Cheers, - Anthony.
14. Well hello again! It's been a while, and I thought I'd post an update. The bass has been going strong, many practices, a handul of gigs and a few bashings here and there, but it's holding up extremely well. In the end I decided to keep the blue, and what with the worn areas, and chips and scratches, I've decided it has a certain character that I actually quite like. I plan to keep wearing it down naturally, and I reckon it'll turn out looking pretty beat in the end. Which is fine by me! Here's a pic of the bass in action! Apologies for the lower quality of the iPhone pic! As a round up, I've very much enjoyed the project. The amount of work I actually had to do was very minimal, and if you're a little impatient with the glue as I am, you could easily put one together in a day providing you're handy enough with a drill and basic tools. I'd advise for anybody looking to build a bass for the first time to put a parts bass together, because it's pretty fun, and you can get a decent intrument out of it when you're done. The SD pickups sound great, and are plenty versatile for both my bands material, as well as solo practice and just messing around. The Babicz bridge is a pretty solid piece of kit, but the supplied screws are pretty brittle, so watch out for those. Make sure you get it sat perfectly flat on the body, otherwise you may not get the resonance it promises. I want to pull mine off and get a little spring to go underneath which will hold the earth wire, rather than having it fanned out underneath, since as it stands the plate isn't totally flush with the body. But that's a job for the future. But anyway, I'm done with this one for now I reckon. If anything changes I'll be sure to let you know. Thanks for looking! - Anthony.
15. In case anyone is interested, a full remix has been done. As ever, it's not perfect. But it is much better than before. Goodbye extensive reverb! Completely free, just like before. We've also got a couple of gigs coming up in July if you're interested. 16. Looks absolutely lovely! Great job!
17. Yours is already looking nicer than mine! Nice job. Love it.
18. In my band, it's rarely anything other than 4/4. When composing more classical or film music, I've been so crazy as to use 13/8, which was fun.
19.
I had better no post any more pictures of my blonde '57 reissue bass had I
Oh god no, it'll kill me most likely! It is absolutely, without a doubt my dream bass.
20. I widened the holes on my Mighty Mite neck using a paint brush and sandpaper and it turned out fine, so there's no need to worry about that! I'll be following this one, as I recently did near enough exactly the same style build. Just got the paint to go now. Have fun!
21. With the band I'm in, it's usually a case of black jeans, and a dark top. Be it a more formal shirt or a plain/band t-shirt. It's always nice to match, and to feel comfortable at the same time.
22. It might be a little shallow, but I want a bass that looks good. If it looks good, I'll pick it up and try it. Then I'll find out how it plays and sounds. If I can't afford it, chances are it's going back on the wall/stand. Like Lozz said, if it doesn't look nice, chances are I won't bother picking it up. It could be the best playing/sounding bass ever, but looks, unfortunatlely matter quite a bit with some instruments.
23. They're quite fortunate. Getting a band together at that age was near impossible for me, and we were nowhere near as talented. Glad I got the chance now. I wish them the best! They should definitely stick at it.
