Interesting thread. I have a Qsiure too!

Hehehe. Shop here had great warranties as long as you could produce the original receipt. What they didn't tell though was that the receipt was printed with ink that would disappear within half a year or a year. best, bert

Hey Chuggs, Welcome! You may find BC to be a nice place, so give it a chance and see. Sorry, can't answer the question, as I have no experience with those. Others will surelt chime in and advise. If not, ask again in the Amps and Cabs section. Enjoy your new life! best, bert

What Percentage Of BC'ers Use Effects?
BassTractor replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
On my keyboards, my hands have always been very busy, so effects have had the role of switching between sounds - think verse<->refrain, or something that makes one note stand out from the rest. On a pipe organ I would use preprogrammed stop combinations for the same. Have no idea how things will develop on bass, but did buy effects for it, as I'm used to them. Voted "Yes" though. best, bert -
Before someone forgets to mention it: different series can have different necks, so more or less chunky P necks exist and more or less slim J necks. People will certainly chime in with hard facts and better knowledge, but at least this has now been mentioned. best, bert

I bought it for my g****r, but just had to try with a bass. Success! Now remember I'm a bass noob, but I tried it with a Classic Vibe '50s Precision and the PPC108 speaker (only one), and lo and behold, with the signal coming from these Ps, I could easily decide how clean it was gonna be. Also, no problem putting bass volume on full and amp gain on full for rockin' overdrive. For me, with its headphone out and aux in, it's a definite keeper. Definitely buying another PPC108 as well., and will sell both guitar combo and a bass combo. Will report back when I've tried it with larger cabs. best, bert
I am even seriously considering flogging my boat to get some decent gear. And I love my boat!
You do so with my much unneeded support. Me, I'm flogging my private car as well as my company car. Haven't been driving them for a year, and am happier walking and bicycling. Bass gear is better, and it tastes even better as well this way. Oh, how much for the boat? best, bert -

I'll drink to drummers, like I always drank with them as well. In my mind, and I've said it before, they're the best lot the be around, the best lot to be stealing instruments with, and the best lot to give free middle of the night concerts with. One drawback only: not the best lot to return the instruments with. But that's all whisky under the bridge now. Cheers, drumbos!

Great. Whether I aim too high or aim too low, I do aim to please. BTW, the Dyptique is the only piece for oboe and organ that I can remember to have done. Start practising. I've been a low ender in many ways as well, but then always had the 16 and 32 foot stops in the pedals, so I've not really missed anything. Was always constructing bass sounds on my synths as well. Girl who got me to start playing the bass tells me the same story: she was always a low ender at heart and has totally dropped the flute. She could have been a flautist in the Concertgebouw Orchestra right now, but chose differently. She too always built bass sounds on my synths. best, bert -
I was a classical oboeist, at quite a high standard..
Wot??? Oh, girl, you and I are soooo gonna treat these silly low-enders on Litaize's "Dyptique" at one of the bashes! They're gonna be reformed in a minute, they are. Oh, wait! .... best, bert -
Sorry to read this, my man Blade. I hope you'll at least be able to enjoy yourself after this. Me, I gave up playing professionally, and got a better life. So there is a way. Other than that, you should ask Shep. He knows how to not play one single note! Good luck, and all the best, bert

Can relate to both your pain and joy. All the best, healthwise, and all the best, gearwise. PS Wouldn't have been this friendly if I hadn't got my BF order in before you. best, bert

Thanks folks! Yup. Pretty sure me too. I might take off the neck in some months. For now I just want to play and enjoy it. best, bert -
Hey LowEndLady, Welcome to you too! You might want to have your own intro, so more people read it. Other than that, may I please gain your permission to have the audacity to dare and point you towards the grand slams in '05, '08 and '12? Thank you, godemmit! Enjoy the site! best, bert
Hey! I'm doing well here!
So am I. I've got two toilet seats, two Ps, a J, a cricket bat, a dildo upper horn and whatnot. Someone (Discreet?) asked what was uneasy about the 50s. I may have used the wrong word, but in my mind (and I admit to having been wrong about something at least twice since 1963-1964), the design of the fifties was mostly a depressed look back at the thirties without the thirties' elegance. YMMV and it wasn't meant as a thorough analysis, but to me the fifties' design stands out as innocent and cozy more than elegant and with grandeur - for the most part. best, bert
I haven't tried the Yamaha yet. I think that goes for aroung =d the dame price doesnt it? As does the Ibanez GRS200.
Yup, same price group. When I bought my first bass, I was warned against the GSR200 - not because it's bad but because the Yamaha was said to be clearly better for the money. Haven't tried or inspected the Ibby myself, but trusted the advice enough to drop it. BTW, didn't buy the Yamaha myself, but a cheap Axl that I returned right away coz the neck was twisted. Decided I was a rich man and went for the RockBass at more than double the price. I wasn't a rich man, so I should've gone for the RBX.
I will check out the Harley Benton. Are they a good brand? I have not heard of them. 35W sounds good for £69.00 though.
"Harley Benton" seem to be Thomann's own brand name only. I might stand corrected on that one. Anyway, they're products from Elder Audio in China who're most known for their brand Beta Three (mixers, monitors), and maybe for the fact they had designed the amps, cabs and combos that were released under the name Ibanez Promethean, and got raving reviews. Depending on importer etc, the same amps can also be had under the brand names Beta Three, Beta Aivin, Harley Benton, White Horse and RedSub, and they tend to get good reviews. Elder can certainly design and can certainly solder, but some people on BC have had theirs go faulty. My 35W one had some pot noise, but else has been so great that I ordered another 110W Harley Benton from Thomann even though I knew of a possible QC issue. I'm a dino, so I still remember the name Laney had when I was young. They may be totally different these days, Idunno. Ask the grown ups in the Amps and Cabs section and thou willt finde. Good luck! best, bert edit for speling with one "l" -

Hey Damon, What a glorious introduction and great read. Reportedly, the SXs are surprisingly good and relatively safe bets. The Epis have a bad name for construction, but some swear by them. Me, I don't like the Affinity very much - the ones I checked were shoddily put together. Instead, I'd go for a Yamaha RBX-170 without any doubt. Don't know the Laney, but I keep hammering on one that Thomann sell: the Harley Benton 35W combo at 69 quid: http://www.thomann.d...enton_hbw35.htm It has everything a practise amp needs, and in my mind sounds stellar and better than the Roland 30W cubes I've heard. Enjoy BC and its banter! Seems you'll fit right in. best, bert -
Hard to choose, as I find almost all basses ugly. That said, within the frame of ugliness, I do be able to get GAS for quite many of them, based on their shapes and colours. But each serious look at basses most often just reveals the total lack of design prowess from the part of the makers, these modern coffee table basses most often being horrendously over the top, and the classics reeking of the uneasy 50s. OK then: over the top pointy things for boys aged twelve. Rant over best, bert

Year of Birth of my Classic Vibes. Help please?
BassTractor replied to BassTractor's topic in Bass Guitars
Oh, never mind. Looking at several serial numbers on CVs, I think I've decoded it: My guess: First pair of digits are year of manufacture. Second pair are month of manufacture. Three last digits are number within a month. If month = "00". then this probably means that one made more than 999 during a certain month, and the "00" is ised for those basses. Serial number is put on neck before all parts are thrown together, so QC date on tag must always be later than serial number date. Not exactly a qualified guess, but not totally without merit either, I should think. best, bert -
Hey Dan, Welcome back from a noob (B-wise as well as BC-wise). I'm sure you know the drill and are forewarned this time. Nice you'd still wanna be here. Enjoy! best, bert
