Hey Mark, Welcome to BC! That was your first good choice. We'll get you there. I can add little to what has already been mentioned. Just use most of the money on the amplification. Cheap basses can be great indeed, amp and cabs less so, unless you can lift old and heavy but still great gear like Trace Elliots, Peaveys and others. Basses: Yamaha, Ibanez (except the cheap GSR-180), Squier (Affinity if checked, Vintage Modified if checked, Classic Vibe unseen), but also some leftfielders like a Danelectro 58 Longhorn or a used Hohner B2B cricket bat are good and fun basses. Me, I recently acquired a Daisy Rock bass for the excrutiating price of 69 quid, and it's just lovely (not perfect, but good enough). When looking at the Marketplace, you can always ask the community for opinions on specific gear that has taken your fancy. I think that that might be the effective way of doing it. From all of the previous discussion, the most important thing to remember for me personally, has been the remark that one can buy CVs unseen whilst the VMs must be tested before purchase. This is what prompted me to go for CVs, and I can't say I'm sorry. One is perfect, one has a badly routed pup hole that I don't care about, and the last one needed a turn of a screw to become perfect. Never even seen a VM live. best, bert

Sam, did you see the thread on the SessionBand Jazz version app? I think it's for Android and IOS. I think that that one could probably draw you out of the fixed solutions thing you mention. Sfar as I can see, it allows you to have short or long loops in all kinds of styles, and this, I'd gather, would force you to expand your horizon. Mind ya, I haven't yet played enough with it to know whether one can change harmonic progressions in detail, but even if it doesn't allow you, I still think it can help. best, bert

Hey Badgad, Welcome! You'll get all the ideas you need, including quite many 4- and 6-string ideas, even as an alternative to buying an amp, so there's no worries there. That said, I do think your best bet is to start new topics in the special sections, as more people read there. Don't forget to mention a budget, and exactly what type of angel quire you re-choir.
