Daft Pun (Tribute Bands with Inventive Names)
BassTractor replied to cloudburst's topic in General Discussion
You guys have me in stitches with your inventiveness. Even the most obvious ones have a sting to them that makes them quite much better than just daft. Also, the made up ones IMHO are clearly better than the existing ones. Well done, and thanks! (I needed this after a major quarrel with the ex. I thought we were supposed to be past that!?!?) best, bert -
Hey Stu, Welcome! You're happy playing anything? It's Stamp of Approval time! As to bass vs. dear old Scotchland, you'll find we have a huge Scottish contingent here. You'll be at a bass bash before you know it. Enjoy our company! best, bert
I prefer head and cab. It's easier to upgrade one component at a time and I think it's important for musicians to fully understand what a particular piece of gear brings to the table in terms of sound quality.
This. Get two heads eventually. For learning, fun, back-up and whatnot. b, b

Daft Pun (Tribute Bands with Inventive Names)
BassTractor replied to cloudburst's topic in General Discussion
The Young Neils are good, and Neil himself seemed to think so too, as he wore their t-shirt on stage some years back, and IMS had one or some of them play with him. -
Hey Mark, Welcome to BC! That was your first good choice. We'll get you there. I can add little to what has already been mentioned. Just use most of the money on the amplification. Cheap basses can be great indeed, amp and cabs less so, unless you can lift old and heavy but still great gear like Trace Elliots, Peaveys and others. Basses: Yamaha, Ibanez (except the cheap GSR-180), Squier (Affinity if checked, Vintage Modified if checked, Classic Vibe unseen), but also some leftfielders like a Danelectro 58 Longhorn or a used Hohner B2B cricket bat are good and fun basses. Me, I recently acquired a Daisy Rock bass for the excrutiating price of 69 quid, and it's just lovely (not perfect, but good enough). When looking at the Marketplace, you can always ask the community for opinions on specific gear that has taken your fancy. I think that that might be the effective way of doing it. Good luck! best, bert Edited for specification of cheap Ibanez

OK then. I'll give in. But remember I'm being weak here, and on collision course with my principles. Welcome, unknown person with a J, to the micro world that is BC 2013 years too late. I'm sure you'll have a great time here. For most of the time, we're soft and cudly, funny and unfunny. Oh, and some of us actually know something, whilst others (admittedly just a few) have actual brains. You should be OK. Now enjoy, and don't be a stranger, hear! best, bert

Great idea. I'm in the ... Shyt! I'm nothing!

You're married to the former Mrs Kevin Pete?????? Respect! How'd ya do that?

Most of what I've said about playing bass on here is bollocks.
BassTractor replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Well, for what it's worth, I'm doing the exact same thing. I just don't need no bloody teacher to help me doing it. Two pints and a few Islays, and I'm back to zero. I fail to see why Nigel would want to use good money on achieving slowly what is sooo easily gained during a good evening. Sorry to bring some science into the discussion, but one can only take so much. b, b -
Wozzat, Mark?
-
Oh, that's nothing. When I was new here, he sent me a free StingRay 5-H fretless. Nice bloke. I mean that. b, b

OK, I'll admit it. I payed too much. Congrats, man! Let us know how you find it with the Boomers. best, bert
hope the health issues are sorted soon, and you can enjoy the loveliness that is Barefaced!
Thanks, mate! It's starting to look good now. b, b

I think it's about time all y'all started to give me some more respect. Youse cabs are only getting to you this quickly coz I voluntarily offered to have mine put back in the queue just so all y'all BCers would get them a little quicker. Respect, I tellz ya! (In real life it's health issues in Tractor manor, and I hope to be back in the queue right after the summer holiday. Looking forward to that.) Enjoy your newfound space in the forefront! best, bert

Squier Vintage Modified vs Classic Vibe
BassTractor replied to Jono Bolton's topic in General Discussion
From all of the previous discussion, the most important thing to remember for me personally, has been the remark that one can buy CVs unseen whilst the VMs must be tested before purchase. This is what prompted me to go for CVs, and I can't say I'm sorry. One is perfect, one has a badly routed pup hole that I don't care about, and the last one needed a turn of a screw to become perfect. Never even seen a VM live. best, bert -
Sam, did you see the thread on the SessionBand Jazz version app? I think it's for Android and IOS. I think that that one could probably draw you out of the fixed solutions thing you mention. Sfar as I can see, it allows you to have short or long loops in all kinds of styles, and this, I'd gather, would force you to expand your horizon. Mind ya, I haven't yet played enough with it to know whether one can change harmonic progressions in detail, but even if it doesn't allow you, I still think it can help. best, bert

Hey Vanon, Welcome! I was tubby too, but in a streak of genius sold my Ashdown combo. These days the fat just runs off. It's the only way I can keep hiding behind my rig on stage. 212s will do that for you. Enjoy the site! best, bert
it's sideways
Bollocks! Won't help at all. Worse even, you risk shorter valve life. Please stop spreading this unscientific treehugger nonsense. best, bert PS My own OTB is upside down. Now that's sound quality. Controls at 12 and it's just like a Glockenklang!

Hey Badgad, Welcome! You'll get all the ideas you need, including quite many 4- and 6-string ideas, even as an alternative to buying an amp, so there's no worries there. That said, I do think your best bet is to start new topics in the special sections, as more people read there. Don't forget to mention a budget, and exactly what type of angel quire you re-choir. That or just buy a bloody, ugly StingRay 5 and my wife, and be done with it. They say the low B of an SR5 is very good. Anyway, Enjoy the fora! best, bert

I am a song writer from Nottingham looking for a Bass Player.
BassTractor replied to Baz Kane's topic in Introductions
Hey Baz, Welcome! It's been said, and you have listened, so I have little to add, other than: good luck with finding the lowender. You're gonna stay here, yes? best, bert -
Hey Ticktock, Lovely intro. Welcome to the fold! I'm sure you'll have a great time here, seeing as you suffer from the same SWS as the rest of us. Wish you a speedy recovery! best, bert, Ad hoc administrator, European Slim Wallet Syndrome Sufferers Organisation

The Thirteen Dumbest Band Names in Rock History
BassTractor replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Don't know about dumbest, but a band here called themselves Pope, and probably wondered why people couldn't find them on the web. Changed their music a bit and were renamed Strange Days, after a certain unknown album. Yup, they're a lot easier to find these days. Not. Personally I don't get this. best, bert
