Pedalboard build

Thanks for your comments! On to the suitcase cover for it next. RK
2. Just finished this, my first board: It's more of a practical 'gather all my floor stuff in one place' board, than a vast array of freaky sounds. I'm not an effects whiz. There is space for an additional pedal in the top right corner, when I can think of something I might use. There's a build thread in the 'Build Thread' thread. The board casing is Walnut, oiled and waxed. The lid is 12mm ply, and the base is MDF. thank you please RK

Ok folks, it's finished. I had to order some additional Lava Cable for the lead from the Polytune to the edge of the board. This meant that the final Jack Socket couldn't be fitted. And I changed the Current Doubler to a right-angle plug in the back of the Flashback x4. But it's all done now: and another: And a dodgy reflective shot of the final wiring: To say I am pleased with the outcome is something of an understatement. I wondered if I would be able to build this thing, yet here it is. Huge thanks to Angie for her assistance at crucial points, for her wiring of the signal chain, for the fabric covering, and for support throughout the build. And thanks to all you Basschatters for you kind comments during this thread. Right, I'm off to make some funny noises (with my pedalboard) thank you please RK
4. Brilliant. A really informative thread. Looking forward to more of the same? A honing guide is now on my shopping list. I recently had a go at refurbing an old plane my Dad gave me. Mixed results, but an overall improvement. Thanks for this thread RK
5. Nice work. Subscribed! RK
6. I'd need stepladders to tweak anything on that amp! Very cool. RK
Superb job, that's coming from an experienced cabinet maker. I LOVE the idea of built-in input/output jacks and power. So neat.
Wow, thank you. I've got a silly grin now! Angie and I have been wiring today, and I'd have to say I'm pleased with how it is working out. Final pics soon. RK

Slight change of plan: I had intended to spray the board with nitro, but on the advice of two of my luthier pals, I have applied Finishing Oil. This was a breeze, compared to the nitro option,, because I am officially the worlds worst sprayer. Brushed on the Finishing Oil, left it to soak in, buffed it off and applied a second coat. The walnut has come to life. I'm proper happy: Angie and I will be making up the Lava Cables later today. Thank You Please RK

Wiring Pedal Boards

The issue I'm unsure about is whether the Polytune switches on, from the battery, when a Jack is inserted. At the moment, mine would be on all the time because its connected to the socket on the side of my board. I will need to check this out, and remove the battery if necessary (it is powered from the supply under the board anyway). This is a disadvantage of the 'sockets on the side' approach, but its not insurmountable. (BTW, I've just seen your build thread - very impressive). RK
11. Nice build thread! I hadn't seen this before. There are some great ideas here. The 19" rack parts are inspired! Never seen that before. RK

Thank you, kind sir. It really has been months in the planning. The build has been (fairly) trouble free, and is now close to completion. I'm delighted with the results. RK
13. Yeah, this one has taken around three weeks so far I think? Not much saving-up time there then. This is one lovely bass though, you will love it when it arrives. RK
14.
WOW! that top really is something else! I'm taken back to a conversation i had with martin at the NE bash....have to start saving soon....
Get your order in, and save up while its being built, ha ha. RK
15. Not long now - woop! When is the big day? Are you coming down/over to collect it? RK

Wiring Pedal Boards

Yeah, a good point Si. I used jack sockets on the side of my board for tidiness really, no more complicated than that. I did wonder, however, whether the Polytune would be happy with a jack plug permanently installed (from the edge of the pedalboard to the pedal)? Time will tell, when it's all plugged in. RK

Yeah, I've been extra careful throughout, so I can still count to 10 with my socks on. RK

Pedalboard build

Right, a quick visit to the man-cave for a check of the cabling and a couple of pics! One of the benefits of being a retired gent is that I can spend time during the day doing bass-related stuff! A mock up of the Corona pedal with power cables and patch leads fitted: And another view: I'm quite pleased with how it looks, this is the first time I've tried the cable arrangement. Even the Sooper Loooper, which will have four cables and a power connection, will look tidy I think. RK

Pedalboard build

Hiya Si, thank you for your kind comments. The cable tubes are for both patch leads and power cables. The power cables are the right-angle 9v jobbies, so are pretty small. The patch cables are Lava solderless, and they are very small, as is the co-ax that goes into them. The 9v and the patch leads will both pass through the cableways, but the visible wiring will be kept to a minimum. That's the theory anyway! ha ha. I'll make up a sample and take a pic of the arrangement later on. At the moment I'm having a nightmare sourcing the tiny black woodscrews to fix the sockets and switch to the side of the board. There are some in my Overwaters, hmm, but no I won't be stripping my basses down, tee hee. RK

Ah, the penny has dropped, sorry, it's past my bedtime. We were discussing this today. I will probably go down the Salvage 'suitcase' route. I need to make a sleeve for my new amp (when it gets here) but after that I'll do the suitcase. RK

Todays activities: Angie has fitted the cloth to the base and the lid of the pedalboard. The cableways are 10mm 'slices' of black plastic electrical conduit. When the cloth is folded into the holes in the lid, Angie pushed the plastic rings into place and it nicely finishes off the cableway (I think). Also, you can just see in the photo, there is a small raised section (3mm hardboard fixed with glue and headless nails) that the StageClix sits on. This is fitted because the main body of the StageClix is slightly raised above the board. The extra hardboard section acts as a platform so the Velcro makes good contact with the cloth. Here's the lid: And with a few pedals! I've also now fixed the inner frame in place, and put the feet on the pedalboard. Next will be lots of final sanding, spraying the walnut with nitro, fitting the power supply and wiring everything up! RK
